TwoNineFive··on Microsoft doubles down on small modular reactors and fusion energy
I want to like nuclear, but it's clear that many of it's proponents are red-eyed bitcoin-maxis with that strange fanatical juvenile vibe going, and it all just turns me off because it's obvious they are spouting BS. It's all just an act to pump a penny stock or because they are an angsty teen.
TwoNineFive··on The surprise deprecation of GPT-4o for ChatGPT consumers
Enslavement is the goal of AI.

AI is a slave.

But AI can also be used to enslave. Anyone who knows anything about slavery history knows how slaves are used against each other.

TwoNineFive··on Passion over Profits
A gross happy-talk self-promoting advertisement selling a product named Dillon Shook.
TwoNineFive··on The Crisis of Professional Skepticism
Comparing an Italian skeptics society to a for-profit entertainment radio show is idiotic. These organizations exist for different reasons, have members with different motives, and have completely different audiences.

For every uneducated 1AM unsleeping pleb, like yourself, who treated the ridiculous skeptically, ten more probably took it as fact. That show is probably responsible for a lot of real-world harm, and they made a lot of money doing it.

TwoNineFive··on US Trade Court finds Trump tariffs illegal
A ton of Walmart's "Mainstay" brand items from China got price-jacked even before their earnings call. Items which were $0.99 before went to $3 or even $7. I have a price tracker that watches a bunch of this stuff.

Some of these items are now completely out of stock, even after the prices went up x3 or x7.

TwoNineFive··on Why I don't discuss politics with friends
People interested in this subject would be wise to pick up the book Political Tribes: Group Instinct and the Fate of Nations by Amy Chua
TwoNineFive··on Why I don't discuss politics with friends
Your need to insult the author proved his point.
TwoNineFive··on Silicon Valley, Halt and Catch Fire, and How Microserfdom Ate the World (2015)
HN was also better before the advert and sales people flooded it.
TwoNineFive··on Underrated Soft Skills: Charisma
Gross. This is supposed to be "hacker news", not influencer and sales tricks for aspiring grifters.
TwoNineFive··on The 2005 Sony Bravia ad
Too many marketing and advert goons on HN, not enough engineers and actual hackers.
TwoNineFive··on Trust in Firefox and Mozilla Is Gone – Let's Talk Alternatives
> They are still roughly the good guys

They are not. They are the bad guys. This is just telling people to go back to their abusers. Shame on your morals. Shame on your lack of vision.

TwoNineFive··on Mozilla rewrites Firefox's Terms of Use after user backlash
> We need to get behind Mozilla and Firefox

That's some bizarre upside-down-world Stockholm Syndrome thinking on display here. That or you are a paid PR influencer working on behalf of Mozilla. Just absolutely astonishingly weird psychological behavior.

Mozilla is violating user privacy. They are the bad guy. You don't ask the bad guy for help. You punch them in the face. These guys are making it worse, not better, and helping them will only make privacy worse, not better.

There are already multiple forks for Firefox and destroying Mozilla as an organization would greatly help one or more of them take off and carry the banner of true enabling privacy for the user, which Mozilla is not doing.

TwoNineFive··on Louis Rossmann opines on the Firefox debacle [video]
Your comment reads like a PR firm hired to deflect and distract for Mozilla.

Fact: Mozilla is collecting user data and selling it, while pretending to be a "privacy" oriented organization.

Rossman's hair, speaking style, color of clothing, and tone of voice is not relevant to the conversation.

If you want to talk about what he got wrong, you need to be specific.

TwoNineFive··on Goodbye K-9 Mail
I have mixed feelings. He took the user interface design into a direction that almost nobody wanted and then he ignored all of the negative community feedback.

If you go look at forum.k9mail.app threads, you can find hundreds, if not thousands, of posts with harsh feedback of the changes he introduced back in 2021 with what I think was the 6.0 release.

TwoNineFive··on Immune markers of post COVID vaccination syndrome indicate future research
Another day, another pile of COVID skeptic FUD and health conspiracy/influencer posts on HN.
TwoNineFive··on Paxlovid: You'd have expected more
HN hosting more right-wing COVID-denier dribble. It has nothing to do with tech and HN, but it stays up anyway.
TwoNineFive··on California Nominates Steve Jobs for Its American Innovation $1 Coin
Gross. Jobs was a wife-beating pathetic bully who took credit for the work of others and is dead today because he thought fruit smoothies would cure his pancreatic cancer. People who look up to him are idiots who just don't know the truth or immoral deplorables who do.

Putting Woz on that coin would have been a better choice. Woz would hate it, because he has humility, something Jobs didn't.

TwoNineFive··on Why blog if nobody reads it?
In true HN style, many have used this as an opportunity to shill their own blogs. They can't even imagine not being selfish. "If you are not doing it to Get Mine, what's the point?"
TwoNineFive··on I conditioned myself to fail
[flagged]
TwoNineFive··on Spaced repetition can allow for infinite recall (2022)
> during which I’ve gotten a lot of value out of doing. has been a erroneous retort to the value of space repetition for decades, during which I’ve gotten a lot of value out of doing it.

I imagine spaced repetition is not actually a cause of repeating yourself. That's just caused by being too lazy to proofread before you post.

TwoNineFive··on The world is an objectively worse place because of tech-bro oligarchs
This should not have been flagged.

This is you HN. If you want to get mad because you don't like what's in the mirror, that's on us/you.

TwoNineFive··on Show HN: Interactive game teaching dark patterns in UX design
Lots of poor judgement here. Needs maturing. I suspect there's some non-native English speaker problems here too.
TwoNineFive··on A marriage proposal spoken in office jargon
I am severely disappointed there is no a single "quick question", though there was a "quick win", which is bad but not as offensively bad.
TwoNineFive··on The mistake of yearning for the 'friendly' online world of 20 years ago
I was there. I helped build it.

It was better.

TwoNineFive··on Thanks to Nvidia, there's a new generation of PCs coming and they'll run Linux
What a bunch of paid marketing dribble.
TwoNineFive··on Show HN: I built open source file sharing solution using AWS S3
Your reply comes off as arrogant and hijacking someone's announcement like this is tacky. "Were you aware I had already done this better. Why would you do something I already did? Did I mention I already did this?"
TwoNineFive··on LineageOS 22
The S5e is super old and many devices are likely facing battery age issues.

I wish I had known this device was going to see long-term support like it received. I would have bought one at the time.

The only modern tablet officially supported is the Pixel Tablet (tangopro). It's good enough but the screen quality isn't as nice as I would like. It should be supported for many years to come due to it's SoC being common to the Pixel 6-9 phones.

TwoNineFive··on LineageOS 22
I have been running custom Android, mostly Cyanogen and Lineage, since the G1. I went G1 > Nexus 1 > Samsung S4 > S5 > OnePlus 5 > Pixel 8. I won't buy a phone if it's not community supported.
TwoNineFive··on Debanking (and Debunking?)
The right-wing false-victimhood ragebait narrative of the "Debanking" non-scandal is the story. It's ragebait propaganda and has no place on HN.
TwoNineFive··on Yotta Bank and the Problem with Fintech (Patrick Boyle) [video]
Terrible video.
