TruthElixirX··on Where is the One Percent?
I believe it is 54k a year now, but I may have been looking it up incorrectly.
TruthElixirX··on Did Y Combinator send out the acceptance/ rejection emails yet?
What is this? Spam?
TruthElixirX··on Our Unpaid, Extra Shadow Work
I make <20k a year (student). I spend about 1 hour doing my taxes, and I don't have any investments or anything.

I cannot imagine how long it takes someone with property, 401ks, etc.

TruthElixirX··on Ridejoy (YC S11): Make Some Dough On Your Next Roadtrip
This seems like AirBnB except with cars. Seems like they might run into the same liability problems.
TruthElixirX··on Hell freezes over: Forrester urges IT to support the Mac
I'm pretty sure Macs still need to be backed up and managed.

And probably need securing from various perspectives.

TruthElixirX··on What happened to the iPad killers of 2010?
How do they compare spec wise at different levels? I am not in the market for a tablet so I'm not even sure what the different iPad competitors are.
TruthElixirX··on Richard Stallman’s rider
"I usually decline to participate in "open source" or "Linux" events. See http://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-linux-faq.html for why it is incorrect to refer to the operating system as "Linux"."

Ah, this never gets old.

Also, using Pepsi to keep awake.

Are all riders this god damn picky? It wouldn't surprise me. I imagine there is a great amount of antagonism between performers/speakers/etc and the venues.

TruthElixirX··on JRuby 1.6.5 Released
I'm not a very smart guy. I see things like this and IronPython (which I assume is ALMOST the same idea, but not quite) but I don't understand their purpose.

Could someone explain in some easy terms why you (from my understanding) re-implement languages like this?

TruthElixirX··on IBM has a new CEO: Virginia Rometty
Hopefully more women reduces the amount of misogyny that have to see people pull all the time on the internet.
TruthElixirX··on Ten years of Windows XP: how longevity became a curse
Seven is faster and more efficient than Vista. I have it running (with Aero off) on a 6 year old Thinkpad. It workss great, just as well as XP.

I also used Vista for 3 years, and recently moved to 7. It boots much quicker and uses less resources on a consistent basis.

Of course I realize that the plural of anecdote is not data but I haven't heard anyone contradict what I said.

TruthElixirX··on Ten years of Windows XP: how longevity became a curse
I have a feeling that is not what the OP was referencing, but if it is, it is disabled with about 3 clicks.

Also, I am glad they implemented it. It gives people who just click things, like my girlfriend, pause. It makes them double check what is happening.

TruthElixirX··on Ten years of Windows XP: how longevity became a curse
How is Windows 7 more locked down?
TruthElixirX··on Lead Bullets
Yeah, that is a pretty huge over sight. Who would want to make a reference to PE without realizing that?
TruthElixirX··on Valve: Piracy Is More About Convenience Than Price
Offline mode has been fixed since at least the start of August, if not longer.
TruthElixirX··on John McCarthy Has Died
Eventually, I think, there will cease to be icons within the industry. What we have now are the people who invented the internet/computers and the basic components.

The people who are doing the inventing now are just as smart, but they aren't creating fundamental things, they are improving on an existing system.

We don't say, "engineer team y invented the iCore series of processors." we sort of just say "Intel is coming out with a new set of processors."

I'm not sure if I am making my point very clear. :\

TruthElixirX··on GoodData threatens our student startup with lawsuit
Could start2cloud just say something like, "GoodData refuses to let us review them or they threaten a law suit. We will let you draw your own conclusions from that."
TruthElixirX··on Parse Announces Large File Support and Facebook Users
Facebook authentication is so tiring. I wish people would knock it off. I have to avoid registering at sites now because they insist on using Facebook.

I realize this isn't mandatory at this time though.

TruthElixirX··on John McCarthy Has Died
Wikipedia has removed this claim now.
TruthElixirX··on John McCarthy Has Died
I have a feeling this will start being a lot more common in the computer world. The founders of everything are starting to hit their later ages. :(
TruthElixirX··on How to hire an idiot
"Sadly, I could have found out all of that by simply asking him before offering him the deal."

Wow. Really?

TruthElixirX··on Apple Introduces What It Calls an Easier to Use Portable Music Player (2001)
It was useless to Windows users when it was launched. It wasn't compatible.
TruthElixirX··on The original iPod, 10 years later: a re-review
Because no one used Firewire.

And because Mac market share when the original iPod was released was very poor.

TruthElixirX··on The original iPod, 10 years later: a re-review
Do you have a source for that claim? Because the store did not pop up until the same era as USB and Windows support.
TruthElixirX··on The original iPod, 10 years later: a re-review
The very first iPod was sort of stupid though.

Firewire only. First generation did not sync with Windows, though a later revision made it work using Music Match, which was an awful program to use.

Eventually we get a USB cable, but it cannot be used for charging, data transfer only.

It wasn't until 2003-2004 that the iPod actually became something most people could use.

TruthElixirX··on Reality of budget VPS services
I used ASO's shared web hosting for a long time. Their support at that level was amazing and I really enjoyed them.

I'm sure their VPS support would be just as great.

TruthElixirX··on Google mulling role in possible Yahoo bid
I must have missed this. When did Google get slapped with an anti-trust investigation?
TruthElixirX··on Dennis Ritchie, High School Guidance Counselor
Start ups may not have a lot of time to respond to that sort of thing. When you are living off Ramen and praying that you don't lose money this year, you tend to be pretty busy.
TruthElixirX··on Leaked Gmail redesign looks a lot like Facebook’s Message inbox
Yeah, the huge sparse white space is killing me. I don't have a lot of money so I am rocking a 22" screen at 1680 x 1050. I try to squeeze every last bit of screen real estate out of it.

Hopefully someone will make a Firefox plugin to make it look like the old style.

TruthElixirX··on US Unpaid Student Loans Top $1 Trillion
This bubble is going to pop harder than any bubble in the history of the U.S.

Ugh.

TruthElixirX··on The Styrofoam Cube In This Letter Serves A Bureaucratic Purpose
I still check my mail. I said "pretty much". I'm more at like 99% electronic.
