Trundle··on Self-Awareness for Introverts [pdf]
Nope. Introvert.
Trundle··on Tesla reviewing contractors, firing everyone not vouched for by an employee
Putting your reputation on the line is exactly what vouching is.
Trundle··on Self-Awareness for Introverts [pdf]
People lacking social skills/abilities be it through autism or any other reason took "introvert" long ago.

As someone drained by social situations who needs alone time to recharge - but who successfully works in sales and has no trouble working a room, hitting on women, dealing with hostile confrontation, etc - I wouldn't use the word to describe myself.

It's socialisings "curvy".

Trundle··on H-1B abuse: Bay Area tech workers from India paid a pittance, feds say
You contributing to supply would still suppress wages though no?
Trundle··on To solve affordability crisis, Bay Area housing stock must grow 50% in 20 years
I don't think entitlement or rights need to come in to it. It's entirely possible to have a want and act on that want without invoking moral righteousness.
Trundle··on California Supreme Court Transforms the Test for Who Is an Employee
I think this can vary a lot. Contractors often charge very high rates, but then they're called a consultant even if theyre there to do/create rather than consult.
Trundle··on Detroit Was Crumbling, Now It's Reviving
That children are going without x where x is some roughly agreed on minimum standard of living is a problem.

Jobs existing that can't support a family is not a problem.

The solution to the first might be to change the second, but it doesn't have to be.

Trundle··on StreetLend.com shuts down, citing GDPR regulations
>almost nothing

Yeah, I'll just get a small loan from my father.

Trundle··on Why the F-35 Isn’t Good Enough for Japan
Current navy size seems less relevant than what it could be if they were planning to invade Australia. If I decided to invade an island nation my first step would be to build enough boats.
Trundle··on Why the F-35 Isn’t Good Enough for Japan
Indonesia is right next door and outnumber us 10 to 1.

India and China are also reasonably close.

Trundle··on Why the F-35 Isn’t Good Enough for Japan
That's certainly the risk when going for this sort of strategy. Basically prepaying and hoping the stronger party will actually deliver when the time comes.

Id be interested to see how that would play out though. Like at what point in poor military decisions do generals ignore the president? Like hypothetically if China started landing troops and pillaging, and the pres have the military a stand down order, I can only assume hed get ignored/a bullet.

I wonder where letting allies fall lands in that. If military command/intelligence has data showing that to be safe the US needs allies, and that if they don't defend Australia then the rest of their allies will immediately all run to hide behind whoever, then what are the chances of the president waking up to a spook in his bedroom telling him that if he doesn't change his decision then he's going to have a heart attack very soon?

Trundle··on Why the F-35 Isn’t Good Enough for Japan
No you were right with the second sentence. We're better off spending our defence budget doing what the US says.

Unless we're going to nuke up, our defence strategy is being an actual powers bitch. Solid relations with the US will go a lot further than some anti ship missiles.

Trundle··on T-Mobile seals merger deal with Sprint
Nah it's because most of us are cheap as fuck and book flights by whichever is cheapest. So it's a race to the bottom for pricing which means cost minimisation ie. Shit support and service.
Trundle··on T-Mobile seals merger deal with Sprint
I was under the impression that air travel was an extremely competitive market with slim profit margins. Am i wrong?
Trundle··on Ask HN: How true is it that most founders are taking drugs like Modafanil?
Not a founder but I do want to share some information to act as context for the other responses.

I use modafinil quite regularly.

It is very easy to get.

No one that i don't do drugs with recreationally knows that I use it. If it came up in a discussion with people I know professionally and I needed to contribute an opinion, it'd be slightly negative and dismissive of the idea.

Trundle··on ReformedFelonForHire.com – High quality software skills, at a competitive price
Not in a position to hire you but I highly recommend contracting, or presenting as a one man dev agency. People treat signing up with Top Development Pty Ltd much differently to hiring Mr Potential Felon.

When myself and a friend were doing it for a while we were continuously amazed at just how trusting people were. No background information, credential checking, nothing. Just "here you go" and they hand over credentials to all of their core business and customer information to some guys they just met.

We were also charging $90 hour as people who didn't really know what they're doing. I understand you need money right now, but I definitely think this is a route you should consider in the future.

Yeah I can't see anyone saying he can't put his opinion out there.
Trundle··on Show HN: Progress Bar OS X. How much % of a year/month/day has passed in menubar
Those that find this interesting might also want to check out Mortality, a chrome extension.

It replaces the default new tab window with a count down and has the ability to set it based on your expected death date based on your stats.

I've got 19494 days 14 hours and 53 minutes to go.

I find it motivating.

Trundle··on Everyone Wants to Go Home During Extra Innings, Maybe Even the Umps
I used to enjoy the changing meta, new heroes, balance patches back when I played dota a lot.

Now that I haven't played in years I don't enjoy watching any more because it's too far removed from the game it was when I played. I can't tune in to an important final and follow along at anything other than the most superficial of levels.

If the meta was static then id be a casual follower, as it is I'm not any sort of follower.

Professional sports seem to have very large casual fan bases. If you kept changing the rules then maybe they'd be fine with that, or maybe they'd be like me and stop watching.

Trundle··on A.I. Researchers Are Making More Than $1M, Even at a Nonprofit
It doesn't, but it does tend to mean heavily reduced salary because part of the employees compensation is the warm fuzzies they get.
Trundle··on Reading Aloud to Young Children Has Benefits for Behavior and Attention
Better people doesn't mean they have to be a product. Better people isn't even really how I would phrase it. More like lining your child up to have a better life.

It's something very hard to optimise for because what a good life is doesn't really have a strong definition. Is it quality of life in objective measurements? Comparative to your peers? To your upbringing? Is it having many itches and being able to scratch some of them? Having few itches and scratching them all? Is there an authenticity component ie in a hypothetical situation where you could matrix yourself and have a better life than your real one would you? Is 'meaning' a thing? Is it still meaningful if you create arbitrary need for 'meaning?

People have different measures but they pretty much all have measures.

Given that acquiring whichever mixed bag of "good life" things you believe in is almost certainly going to require certain modern life skills, I don't see any reason to attribute it to productisation of people. Just parents looking out for their kids interests.

Trundle··on Man Accused of Making 97M Robocalls
I don't think they care. Here in Australia at least, unlimited calls/text starts at pretty cheap plan options. It's the data use that's the moneymaker. As long as you're watching videos and snapchatting I don't think they care if you text or not.
Trundle··on I built a progressive web app and published it in three app stores
Yes, the users in the free market are capable of choosing quality apps. They do that by outsourcing the filtering to Apple.

Why fridge? That's basically what the supermarket does for me. They sift through a sea of garbage and show me a selection.

Apple just happens to be both the fridge manufacturer and supermarket.

If my supermarket released a fridge I might consider it.

Trundle··on Tell HN: My best productivity hack
Briefly, then it gets undone and left undone for a good while.

List making is the best option I've found so far but I still have issues with staying on track. It's the middle of my work day right now and here I am.

Trundle··on Tell HN: My best productivity hack
Having to restore access gives you many more seconds of time between impulse and gratification where you can catch yourself in the process and have the internal "the fuck are you doing? Is that video even going to bring you a modicum of happiness? Get back to work and we can do something actually fun later you adhd fuck" talk.
Trundle··on The Price of Free Is Actually Too High
Most people don't "stick their neck out" as much as you do. I'm a casual browser and I feel like I've seen you discussing your life situation enough to the point where I know your circumstances better than that of some people I consider friends.
Trundle··on Google loses ‘right to be forgotten’ case

Here's a fourth that was actually responsible for me starting to just use generated passwords for those as well. They told me my answer wasn't valid.

According to them, it's impossible for your mothers maiden name to have less than six characters :/
