TriangleEdge··on Is There Any Benefit to Multivitamins?
> but I got sick beyond comprehension

Can I ask from what?

> 1 out of a 1000 compounds in every plant and for example if that one compound seems to be doing good, let’s ignore the 999 other ones.

Can you be specific?

> He takes over 100 supplements and I figure that’s probably what it takes if you wanna live off plants.

Which supplements?

I misspoke and eating clean is associated with all cause mortality, not diet [1].

TriangleEdge··on Is There Any Benefit to Multivitamins?
I suggest a book called "How Not to Die" by Michael Greger. Given you don't seem to be the vegetable eating type, you're increasing your likelihood of all cause mortality.
TriangleEdge··on Ask HN: What would you do if you could start over?
I never would of joined Palantir out of university. I was on an awful team, and it shaped my world to be negative for a long time. I was exploited and got less out of the experience then I would have elsewhere. If I could do it again, I would of tried to join Amazon, Apple, or Google. Feeling financially safe matters a lot, especially if you want to take a risk like starting a business. So my advice to myself would be: Fuck your ethics (in large part). Make money at a innovative tech company so you can learn and be financial safe.
TriangleEdge··on Show HN: I made a site to simplify recommending talented people to others
How do you quantify talent?
TriangleEdge··on OpenAI deletes ban on using ChatGPT for "military and warfare"
> but I don't have proof.

Turing test achieved. I don't know if the internet will lose its appeal because of this. Could be that in the future, to use an online service, you'll need to upload a human UUID.

Isn't there rules to keep politics off of HN?
TriangleEdge··on Google Cuts Jobs in Engineering and Other Divisions
Google doesn't innovate anymore. The last attempt at an innovation I saw was Stadia (RIP). But, most Google products have a replacement now; Google can finally die.
TriangleEdge··on 93% of U.S. households' stock market wealth is held by the top 10%
To me, this reads the same as "90% of emails are processed by a couple hundred servers at Google". I buy ETFs because I don't want to directly handle investments.
TriangleEdge··on Incompetent Middle Management Killed Google
Should be changed to "Incompetent Middle Management Kills All Companies".
TriangleEdge··on Ibogaine banishes PTSD, small study finds
I don't like the unscientific nature of these articles. It "treats" PTSD but they don't define what PSTD is. Idk how PTSD could be quantified since it seems very personal and relative to what a person considered normal for them.
TriangleEdge··on Ibogaine banishes PTSD, small study finds
Can you provide a data source?
TriangleEdge··on You Don't Need More Resilience. You Need Friends. and Money
This study suggests there isn't a 75k plateau: https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.2016976118
TriangleEdge··on You Don't Need More Resilience. You Need Friends. and Money
I agree with the title, I don't think it matter how resilient you are if you have no friends and no money. The Veritasium YouTube channel debunked the fact that money doesn't make you happier (it does) and that there's a plateau (there isn't). I also learnt from Jordan Peterson that you only get positive emotion if you follow a goal. You can't follow a goal if you have no money.

Anecdote: being poor is the most soul crushing thing that has happened to me. In my early 20s, I would go dancing sometimes and someone would approach me saying "you should buy me a drink" and I remember saying no because I had like 50$ total. Note, I was not blessed with loving parents. I don't know for sure, but I am willing to bet that people with more money have more friends with higher quality and deeper bonds then people with less money. I do think this plateaus however.

TriangleEdge··on NHS to investigate Palantir influencer campaign as possible contract breach
Another tactic, for example, is learn what your MBTI is and tailor stories that resonate with your personality.
TriangleEdge··on NHS to investigate Palantir influencer campaign as possible contract breach
Pre IPO ex Palantir here.

Palantir will do a number of things to gain influence. They'll find out who are the decision makers on the space they want a contract, and they'll target them specifically. For example: if they know you take the train to work every morning, and read the news paper, they'll take a full page advertisement on the paper they know you like and that you'll see. They gain this information by, you guessed it, spying on their targets.

TriangleEdge··on Researchers have identified the enzyme that gives urine its yellow hue
Headlines like this remind me of how little is known about the human body. It makes me question the medicine field as a whole.

I hope one of the next tech booms will be bio hacking. Once bio hacking components are accessible and commercially available, who knows what will be possible. I find it incredible the human biology can make super accurate, specific, and precise components.

TriangleEdge··on Consumer Reports finds 'widespread' presence of plastics in food
I'm not a chemist. Why doesn't plastic get broken down? Will there be a future where my doctor will prescribe me an enzyme or something that will breakdown the plastics in my body so they can be filtered out, or turned into energy?
TriangleEdge··on Jeff Bezos Bets on a Google Challenger Using AI to Try to Upend Internet Search
I've been using Perplexity with GPT4 and ChatGPT as my replacement for DDG and Google Search for random fact searches.

For other things like recipes, or opinion pieces, I still use 'legacy' search or Reddit.

TriangleEdge··on Minimum Wage Clock
Given there's a number of countries competing with their economies, they are subject to the evolution and survival of the fittest. If there was a better way to do things, if would occur naturally. Clearly, given capitalism gave birth to the largest economy of the world, it won't go away anytime soon.
TriangleEdge··on More Americans can now get insulin for $35
I don't know much about diabetes, but I do know that:

- Diet and moderate exercise are associated with a reduction in all cause mortality across the board.

- 'Blue Zones' are people who live to be 100 years or older. There's a great Netflix show about it if you want to learn more.

TriangleEdge··on E621, Pornhub, and others block North Carolina residents
Pornhub is one of the most visited websites on earth [1]. So, my question to this comment is how do you define value in this case?

TriangleEdge··on Happy New Year HN!
Happy New Year <3
TriangleEdge··on Ask HN: What has quantum computing achieved so far?
My understanding of quantum computers is that it's a "let's get the universe to solve our problem" type of approach. This being said, it _feels_ like a massive con to me. I'm 100% enthusiastic about fusion energy, and I get excited about most things physics related, but not quantum computers. What can be added to my set of physics knowledge to make quantum computers seem less imaginary?
TriangleEdge··on NY times is asking that all LLMs trained on Times data be destroyed
Follow up Q: can you untrain an LLM, or is OpenAI going to have to retrain without the articles?
TriangleEdge··on NY times is asking that all LLMs trained on Times data be destroyed
I'd argue that training LLM's on news sites makes them less useful anyway. It's not like these sites do any meaningful research. They just disseminate information readily available elsewhere.
TriangleEdge··on U.S. Government Database of Dad Jokes
Distributed Dadnial of Service is happening I think.
TriangleEdge··on You've just been fucked by psyops [video]
The data point I can offer is this: from my experience, psychopaths are real, and the governments of the world don't have a leash on them, regardless of their democracy status [1]. In my mind, those of you who built the tools to send data to the govt, you fueled some demons, regardless of how good of an action you think you were doing was. I find it tricky tho, because I do have this belief in arms races, so exploit or be exploited. In economics, they call it a race to the bottom. I also think AI is going to be to most abused persuasion weapon ever.

[1] I worked for Palantir pre IPO.

TriangleEdge··on Ask HN: What are your predictions for 2024?
> Coca-Cola launches Water 2.0, a new bottled drink that packs 2,800 calories per liquid once, while tasting like regular tap water.

Solve world hunger with water. Genius.
