Suicidal thoughts are often strong but momentary. If there is a gun available, one can take action on the feelings before they pass makeing a momentary thought permanent. Heartbreaking.
So my hypothesis is that the same restrictions on society and or culture that decrease the chance of suicide also reduce wellbeing.
Now, who's fault is it for being drawn in more than I want to be? I take responsibility for it and also agnolage my weaknesses for distraction. Maybe you could equate social media to a liquor store. Fulfilling a demand, serving the community, and also praying on and enabling it, in a bad way.
Most of the time I'm distracted by social media, I would be better served by sleeping.
"Hacker News is a social news website focusing on computer science and entrepreneurship." [0]
It's the same as a group on any other system, just different formatting. It even has karma which can suck you in...
I do not disagree with the sentiment though, managing the amount of time one gives to social media is tough. Picking good social circles and getting out of bad ones is tough.
Being told you are fat is not a good reason to loose wight. People probably already know they are fat. Maybe there are other reasons that could be communicated...
I believe it would take a person down and possibly kill them. I've been told police are taught 2 to the chest 1 to the head.
From my quick googling, a great read: "...Among the accounts from those who have experienced being shot while wearing a bulletproof vest (and lived to talk about it), there is one consistent analogy to describe the feeling: being hit with a baseball bat. ..." http://www.ponderweasel.com/shot-wearing-a-bulletproof-vest/
It's neat to see jail time trickle down though, seems like a better deterrent than a financial cost. It seems to me that it would be easier to believe the financial cost would not hit you, that you could get out of it or not have the cash. Where a jail time potential would make me think twice about anything potentially shady.
The problem is that the watch is dependent on the phone for notifications. If the phone is off the watch will not get notifications for Gmail or Google Voice. I can setup the regular mail client but the I get the Primary, Social, and Updates Inbox from gmail instead of just the primary inbox. Google voice notifications do not come at all so i miss text messages to my google voice number which is my primary/public phone number. The workaround would be to port my number back to the carrier and use the carrier for SMS/Text messages.
ATT has number sync so calls to the watch and phone will hit each other, but it is not as smooth as you would hope and gets disconnected sometimes.
Battery life is much better using bluetooth than wifi or cell connection.
Just lots of little issues that are a pain to try to work around.
My goal was for me to have access to my important notifications but not have my phone "at hand" to tempt me.
Due to idiosyncrasies in how it works, I'm now stuck with both!
Also it looks like they have/are changing their slogan, I did not read more to confirm... Just googled to confirm the slogan.
