Totoradio··on France's aircraft carrier located in real time by Le Monde through fitness app
True, but think about the reverse: being able to flag a strava user as being part of the french navy can be valuable too
Totoradio··on The Windows Subsystem for Linux is now open source

Totoradio··on US internet speeds 91% faster in 2020 according to user speed tests
Weird to see Paris just under 20Mbps, the whole city is covered with fiber
Totoradio··on Discret 11, the French TV encryption of the 80s
For the football games, they turned on the encryption shortly after the game started. This created the expression "but en clair" ("unencrypted goal") where a team would score so early that the encryption was still off.
Totoradio··on Why N95 masks are hard to make
>300 to 800 factories yearly closed their doors in France since the introduction of the Euro.

Have you got a source on that? The data I can find [1] says 600 total have closed between 2009 and 2018.

Totoradio··on Jeff Bezos's phone 'hacked by Saudi crown prince'
If you're thinking of a private actor, I think that once you have access to MBS phone, you run to Doha before attacking Bezos. Qatar would pay a ton of money for that access.

If you're thinking of a state actor except Saudi Arabia, I think there would be much easier and more discreet vectors to Jeff Bezos Whatsapp than MBS phone (literally almost any of Bezos other contacts would be less risky).

Totoradio··on Why is everyone a bank?
YMMV I guess. I'm in France too and none of those points apply to my experience (except the monthly fee for the debit card and the snail mail for the new PIN). I have not set foot in my physical branch in 10 years, and have not written a paper check since 2011.
Totoradio··on A Western Sydney Gang Got Hold of Military-Grade Rocket Launchers
They've been used in France for a spectacular evasion (Antonio Ferrara in 2003), and attacks against Brinks armored trucks
Totoradio··on Engineer admits hacking Yahoo accounts searching for images
I don't see how this could happen at Tutanota
Totoradio··on Which companies would you never work for, and why?
Same here, but I add advertising to my personal list of sectors to avoid.
Totoradio··on Useless Windows 10 Features
This page https://decentsecurity.com/#/holiday-tasks/ contains a lot of tricks to get Windows Update back on its feet (and loads of stuff to cleanup a Windows PC too)

Totoradio··on How Facebook Is Fueling the French Populist Rage
Far left would be anarchists, black-blocs, and a few communists in there too.

Far right would be openly pro-nazi, or Vichy nostalgic small organizations like Oeuvre Française and other dissolved and then formed again groups. Add unaffiliated fascist skinheads in the mix.

Then again, almost every nuance of the spectrum between those two is represented in the protesters.

Totoradio··on How Facebook Is Fueling the French Populist Rage
It's very complicated to explain because it's not a "traditional" movement run by a leader/political party/union. Protesters are all over the political spectrum.

It's the combination of (real and/or perceived):

- rise of inequalities

- new taxes (including the carbon tax)

- removal of taxes impacting only the rich

- sentiment of neglect of the rural areas by the government

- disdain for lower classes by Macron

- lower purchasing power for low/middle class

and probably some other stuff. It's really an aggregation of all that. Add the fact that there is no leader, no precise demands, this makes a nightmare for the government to fix or contain.

Totoradio··on EA reportedly under criminal investigation in Belgium due to FIFA's loot boxes
NBA 2k is not an EA game
Totoradio··on The NSA Continues to Violate Americans' Internet Privacy Rights
The UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights disagrees:

> Article 12.

> No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.

Totoradio··on Please don’t rate your waitress 4/5
I think the article is more about the fact that 5* covers every experience from "slightly below average but not enough that I want to crush my driver livelihood" to "This was the better ride of my life, bar none" and everything in between.

Doing so, it's mostly useful to employers and not to users. The only case where it's useful to both is the case you describe, the obvious 1* ratings.

Totoradio··on Microsoft acquires Github
VsCode is open source too: https://github.com/Microsoft/vscode
Totoradio··on Microsoft acquires Github
About your second point, I just tested it on my machine, Word 2016 saves and opens *.odt files just fine. Is there some unsupported stuff?
Totoradio··on Microsoft acquires Github
I can understand those concerns, but what can they do to convince you they have changed?
Totoradio··on Ask HN: How did you start your business?
I agree. If this tool does what it says, and supported .Net/Nuget, my company would throw a lot of money at it. More than the $50/month advertised.
Totoradio··on ‘The Trains Are Slower Because They Slowed the Trains Down’
It's already a thing, first example that comes to mind is line 14 in the Paris metro: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_M%C3%A9tro_Line_14
Totoradio··on Where Dutch directness comes from
Same thing would have happened in France for sure. I saw once a client whistle to get the attention of a waiter. The waiter didn't come, the restaurant owner did, asking (loudly) the client if she had lost her dog.
Totoradio··on New Surface Pro
I use mine in tablet mode when watching a movie. I get the keyboard out of the way so I can angle the thing just right when on a plane or a train. I also do it when browsing my RSS feeds with NextGen Reader.
Totoradio··on Paris Eyes Luring 20K Bankers from London Amid Brexit Rupture
> The problems are with the "taxe professionelle" which is not based on revenues and the taxes on labour.

The "Taxe professionnelle" was abandoned in 2010/2011.

Totoradio··on France orders Microsoft to stop tracking Windows 10 users
This is anectodal evidence, but I personally saw a CNIL inspection at a previous workplace (semi-big company in France, ~2000 employees at the time). 2 inspectors came in unannounced one morning and snatched a DBA to see what personal info was in all of our databases (Dev,Staging and Prod). They also did other inspections regarding our handling of personal data.
Totoradio··on Could British invention foil terror bombs?
I don't know if this device works, but this is just wrong:

>"I'm sorry to say, but the Brussels attack, this would have instantly sorted out the terrorists before they came into the terminal, and similarly the concert in Paris," he says. "If it had been on the doors there, it would have stopped people getting in."

The terrorists who attacked the Bataclan didn't arrive as simple concert goers, they had AK-47s and shot their way in.

Totoradio··on Safety Check for Brussels
I used it during the Paris attacks in november, and it indicated to everyone I know that I was safe, without the need for everyone of them to message me. Of course, the close friends and family still called/texted, but for literally everyone else in my facebook friends, it was useful.
Totoradio··on Koel: A personal music streaming server
The recommendations are usually on point, but to my knowledge, there's no way to say "I don't like this artist, stop recommending it". I have quite a few of those, that I should like based on my tastes but for some reason I don't.
Totoradio··on One in Three Farms Is Using FarmLogs
Same here, my father has a ~80 ha (~200 acres) farm in Brittany, and that's a medium sized farm in the area.
