Toorkit··on Germany's 49-euro ticket resulted in significant shift from road to rail
The Autobahn is like a Mad Max movie nowadays. Turn signal? What's that? I'm just gonna pop into your lane when you're going 50 kph faster than me.
Toorkit··on Show HN: HTML for People
Sometimes they don't show up until you press Alt, but they're there.
Toorkit··on What excessive screen time does to the adult brain
I open the lichess app in bed and do chess puzzles. Not even 2 minutes and I'm out like a light.
Toorkit··on The best browser bookmarking system is files
I bookmark lots of things! And then promptly forget about them.

Mostly, I just leave the tab open. I have... Many tabs.

Toorkit··on Amusing Ourselves to Death (2009)
The plebians should be doing business during their commute, never stop hustling! /s
Toorkit··on I Am Tired of AI
Y'all are hyper focusing on this example. How about something more vague like FOO obviously being BAR, except sometimes it's BAZ now?

The layman doesn't know the distinction, so they accept this as fact.

Toorkit··on I Am Tired of AI
There's other forms of AI than LLM's and to be honest I thought the 2+2=5 was obviously an analogy.

Yet 2 comments have immediately jumped on it.

Toorkit··on I Am Tired of AI
Computers were supposed to be these amazing machines that are super precise. You tell it to do a thing, it does it.

Nowadays, it seems we're happy with computers apparently going RNG mode on everything.

2+2 can now be 5, depending on the AI model in question, the day, and the temperature...

Toorkit··on Show HN: Put ful.co/ in front of any URL to easily copy its SVGs and images
For those, like me, that prefer local CLI tools, I found gallery-dl yesterday (although possibly slightly different use case than ful.co).

And of course ImageMagick to easily convert images to different formats.

Toorkit··on Show HN: Hacker League – Open-Source Rocket League on Linux
Sick, when is HLCS?
Toorkit··on Zero regrets: Firefox power user kept 7,500 tabs open for two years
I've been using Sidebery, which has a feature to bookmark the whole panel. It then creates a subfolder for every indentation in the tree.
Toorkit··on Collection of Dark Patterns and Unethical Design
Thanks for the tips!
Toorkit··on Living in a Lucid Dream
> Luckily then I actually woke up for real.

Or did you? Wake up Janicc, it's still 1999, we miss you.

Toorkit··on Ladybird Web Browser becomes a non-profit with $1M from GitHub Founder
I'm too used to my Firefox with tree-style tabs and Vim controls to go back to a regular layout.

This also makes me a bit of a tab hoarder, though.

I'd say "I'll be keeping an eye on this," but I'm sure there'll be plenty of posts about Ladybird before the alpha even drops, haha.

Toorkit··on Flameshot – Open-source screenshot software
Flameshot is local. May have a subscription service, not sure.

But flameshot is extremely fast and does 95% of what I'd do in gimp anyway, without having to open a whole image editor and saving a picture. I can directly copy it to the clipboard and paste it somewhere.

Toorkit··on Show HN: I built a website to share files and messages without any server
KDEConnect can be used from the CLI :)

  kdeconnect-cli --share [url|path/to/file] --device [device_id]
Toorkit··on I can't stand using VSCode so I wrote my own
Tiny!
Toorkit··on Ask HN: Is iCloud a viable alternative to Dropbox? Any other alternatives?
Damn it, 5 minutes too late.
Toorkit··on One UX researcher ignited changes to how the company (YouTube) built product
I've heard some people use a ublock filter to hide them. I don't mind them too much, for me they seem to be only shorts from subscriptions.

But yeah, I spend 90% of my YouTube time in the subscription feed.

Toorkit··on One UX researcher ignited changes to how the company (YouTube) built product
I have great news for you:

Toorkit··on Subroutine calls in the ancient world, before computers had stacks or heaps
If that had been the way it was intended, I think it would have been phrased "stacks and heaps."

I.e. "the ancient world had stacks and heaps" as opposed to "the ancient world had stacks or heaps," which sounds weird.

Toorkit··on The end of Pepper&Carrot and my next project
Glad to hear he's finishing it, not just stopping. I've definitely enjoyed this series, it's very wholesome.
Toorkit··on Ask HN: What Are You Learning?
I spent the last 2 weeks memorizing hiragana and katakana. Now I'm dreading the 1.5k core kanji anki deck...
Toorkit··on Picotron Is a Fantasy Workstation
The Pico-8 is great, but https://tic80.com/ is really cool too.
Toorkit··on Shattered Pixel Dungeon is an open-source traditional roguelike dungeon crawler
I remember in the Play Games app specifically, you can filter games by ads. It turns thousands of games into a dozen or so!
Toorkit··on Show HN: I3wm Alt+Tab Workspace Switcher
I've bound alt+tab to `workspace back_and_forth`, so I can toggle between the last two used workspaces. I mostly have only 1 window per workspace, so it works fine for me.
Toorkit··on Who Still Works from Home?
I work from the Drive-thru.
Toorkit··on European crash tester says carmakers must bring back physical controls
And fuck off with the Lane assist nonsense, it doesn't work in the hilly backwaters of Europe. It actively tries to pull you into on-coming traffic.
Toorkit··on Cowsay
It's a bit weird finding `cowsay -f sodomized` though lol
Toorkit··on Smoking has long-term effects on the immune system
You're breathing in car fumes all day, a bit of smoke from 5 meters away isn't much worse.
