Well you have to start somewhere. If they plan to build their own fibre in the future, then this is just a test run to see usage patterns and test the infrastructure. Of course you're not going to put the fibre in some unused rural area. I don't think this is a charity move from Google, and they didn't really disguise it as one (unlike Facebook).

Huh? What provoked this strong response? I'm not hating anyone here. I'm just thinking about this from his / my potential perspective where if you've already put so much effort into the project expecting zero returns, why 'taint' your own product? Its like putting ads on personal blogs that's gonna get you a few bucks in a year. Maybe I'm just particular about these kinda stuff and want to keep things 'pure' and 'clean'.

How much do people get from these kinda referral links anyways? I feel that if you're only gonna get a few clickthroughs, then its not worth putting the link there and have people judge you / your intentions.

I'm not in the US and I don't know much about US laws, so can you enlighten me on the relevant laws regarding this? Would it be illegal to stick a 4k camera on your window sill? What about for surveillance purposes?

Currently the people who block in-app ads are people who have taken the effort to root / jailbreak their device. I find it hard to believe that they would put up with the ads.

I can also not use these kinda apps lol. Whats the point of putting in all these features to stop people if it merely results in an uninstall?

I personally feel that offensive language should be censored because they’re intended to be offensive and hurtful to people, while OTOH if its obviously not purposely offensive but just a method of expression, it should be given a pass. Leave that to self-censorship / the readers / users.

Also, given the semi-monopoly that these sites have, I think that they have some sort of responsibility to not exploit network effects and alienate users just because they can.

Hey Kat (Sam and Matt too)! I am a grade 11 High School student from Singapore, and I’m considering applying with my buddy. The problem is that we have our End-of-Year / Promotional exams from 23 Sept to 30 Sept, and we won’t be able to get excused from school for this. However, we will be able to skip school and commit for the whole of October + November + December.
