ThrowawayIP··on Police tracked a terror suspect until his phone went dark after Facebook warning
You are very right. Edited to reflect that.
ThrowawayIP··on Police tracked a terror suspect until his phone went dark after Facebook warning
Is this just a way of spinning that out of 1400 people targeted by this spyware, ONE was an actual suspected terrorist?

Edited to show that the person was only suspected of terrorism.

That quote just states that some corporate board rooms have found a local maximum in the profit vs (time to market & R&D costs).

Pharma companies do not operate by any moral mandate but are only seeking profit.

ThrowawayIP··on “Let's bring a goddamn bookstore to the Bronx.”
This is a great reason to have a local-level tax on vacant space. Both commercial and residential.
ThrowawayIP··on Show HN: Ethical Resources – 300 ethical alternatives to mainstream stuff
Exactly. You add on top of that that many of the Vegan spreads are moving to "Sustainable Palm Oil"[1] and you are really just left with the unsustainable and unimaginably cruel Dairy Industry.

Friends Don't Let Friends Use Fritzing.*

KiCAD offers a free open-source EDA package that won't limit you after you learn how to draw your first electrical schematics or layout a PCB.

(Disclaimer: Fritzing is a perfectly fine project for someone's first introduction to electronics. Eg. Blinking an LED with an arduino. It quickly runs into limitations because of it's use of point to point wiring on pictographic components)

Why not actually solve the problem? Ban animal agriculture within the watersheds of produce growers.

ToS loopholes not even needed. You need opposing parties to launch a suit and no one is going to sue their own developers for doing as they asked.

I really wanted this to be true.
ThrowawayIP··on Ask HN: Is going back to college worth it if you already have experience?
How did you start that conversation with your uni? I completed most of a degree and now the thought of retaking all the basic classes is a large hurdle to me going back to actually earn it.

Thomas Edison would agree with your stance. Alternating Current is not safe and therefore should never have been implemented. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_the_currents#Edison's_a...
ThrowawayIP··on Monthly Amazon Prime membership fees are about to increase
I cancelled my Amazon Prime membership about a year ago and haven't looked back. I end up spending less money per month on things that I really don't need and my house is no longer filled with endless cardboard boxes.
ThrowawayIP··on Cash Might Be King, but They Don’t Care
>Without cash, we give way too much power to entities managing the payment systems. Card companies don't like you ? You can't pay or take money anymore. That happened with wikileak, remember ? It was not illegal in my country, but VISA and paypal sure prevented me to make a donation to them. They stopped me to use my money in a legal way because they didn't like it. This is such a slippery slope.

Also, payment processors are not legally required to issue cards to everyone who asks. This adds yet another burden to those who are already poor/un-banked/un-documented.

ThrowawayIP··on A “right to repair” movement tools up
In Michigan at least, these programs are funded by the taxpayer. $Power_Company gets to make a profit on every crappy fridge they haul away or every LED lightbulb they install.
ThrowawayIP··on An Introduction to the CAN Bus: How to Programmatically Control a Car
