Thews··on OpenGL 3.1 on Asahi Linux
The years of the keyboard issues left a bad taste in my mouth, but I switched to a non mac laptop for my previous laptop and now I'm back again. The coupling of the OS and hardware really do make for a great user experience. I don't want to play games on my laptop, which is the only real use case where I hear valid complaints. I just need my dev environment and snappy research and communication.

A valid complaint from me is linux based container resource utilization. The only really good fix for that IMO is if apple did something like WSL2 or FreeBSD's linux ABI and had an efficient compatibility layer. For now I just run dev containers on my (linux) desktop.

A micro ryzen 5600U build with really bad quality components can be half the price of a mac mini with equal CPU performance. If you upgrade all of the mac specs you can probably get a larger divide, but IMO maxed out macs don't make much sense for most people.

I am on macos 13.3.1 and have noticed this feature for at least a couple of months, maybe longer. It says Charging On Hold (Rarely Used On Battery)

Good on you. I won't jump through hoops for one time things that don't matter, I see such requests as abuse.

I have learned from a lot of commercial code. It doesn't mean I can't also write "free" code.

I find most things in all code to be generic and obvious. The same functions are used by lots of other software with just different names that there's nothing novel.

After you've learned to classify lots of functions with big O notation, you will end up writing things in an obvious way for a base-level optimization that fits naturally.

How does copilot reduce the incentive to publish free code?

I'm curious to see how matter will be adopted, it looks like almost everything will have a local method of control. I'm already using zigbee and z-wave and some local wifi interfaces. I love automating everything how I want and not worrying about any online services.

I've seen a few projects across different organizations where an old dev was bad at copying and pasting code and ignored DRY principles. The projects had almost no refactoring, and the primary goal of a new dev was cleaning up the redundancy to better map things out for better organization of the codebase.

There is no need for a "complex password" just use a passphrase and don't reuse it.

Thews··on Keyboard latency
I'm using a das keyboard 4 on an iMac and did some tests to see what kind of latency different programs had for the cursor moving with just personal observations. iTerm seems to be significantly slower to move the cursor than Chrome or TextEdit.

Before seeing this article I've thought that iTerm seemed slow before to show text, it'd be nice to see a writeup on how long it took for text to render after keyboard input on a few different programs to get developers to use the same methods to keep this as quick as possible.

Lots of plants like to be top fed. Also roots of different plants can grow differently for aeration. Probably best to educate yourself on horticulture more so than software and sensors.
