TheTxT··on Why does a fire truck cost $2m
What does the size of the country have to do with the size of firetrucks?
TheTxT··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (July 2025)
I’m currently working on implementing a Minecraft server in Rust. Not a new concept, I know, but it’s a great learning opportunity. I already have a few basics like loading and saving worlds and placing/breaking blocks implemented. In a few weeks I will release the first version and host a public server for testing. Then I will also do a show hn. Repo link: https://github.com/T-x-T/oxide (better readme coming soon, don’t worry)
TheTxT··on Ask HN: Anyone else tired of AI being forced on you?
A little ironic to be posting LLM replies about this topic

Did you already consider using ssh port forwarding? That way you can temporarily forward the local port that keycloak is running on to your machine

That’s what the gearbox is for! It will automatically kick into high gear
TheTxT··on Apple M3 Ultra
512GB unified memory is absolutely wild for AI stuff! Compared to how many NVIDIA GPUs you would need, the pricing looks almost reasonable.
TheTxT··on Factories in Space
As long as you don't have to send it up in a rocket that could explode in the atmosphere.
TheTxT··on Developing inside a virtual machine
I used such a setup for gaming using a windows and a Linux (later proxmox) host. With everything passed through you basically don’t realize that you’re sitting in front of a VM, it’s great.
TheTxT··on Developing inside a virtual machine
I did the same thing for many months running teams. It was about what you expect from teams. I didn’t have any other significant issues, but eventually stopped using this setup due to increasing security requirements of the VPN software.
TheTxT··on OpenAI Discusses Giving Altman 7% Stake in For-Profit Shift

It depends on the kind of cookies. As long as they’re just storing some settings it should be fine. However IANAL
TheTxT··on Lidl's Cloud Gambit: Europe's Shift to Sovereign Computing
The US government can still get at that data, because Amazon is still an American company. It doesn’t matter where the data actually lives.
TheTxT··on The UX of HTML (2023)
I will have to try this, thank you :)
TheTxT··on Microsoft formally deprecates the Windows Control Panel

TheTxT··on iOS 18 cracks down on apps asking for full address book access
You can at least block certain apps from using mobile data

Gaslighting isn’t real!
TheTxT··on Putting a Wet Towel on a Tesla Supercharger Handle Gets Faster Charging Speeds
It’s only 250 kilowatts of energy, so nothing really.
TheTxT··on Apple Needs a True Low-End iPhone to Help Revive Growth
Apple could probably make it a lot simpler to use. AWS is very complex for the nontechnical. They could also do something like windows 365 and let you rent a Mac in the cloud.
TheTxT··on The real reason for tech layoffs: to invest in AI
Did anything come out of that?
TheTxT··on PCIe 7.0 Draft 0.5 Spec: 512 GB/s over PCIe x16 On Track For 2025
Maybe we could have react components containing other frameworks. So you could use all the JavaScript frameworks for the most simple landing page.
TheTxT··on Reflections on Distrusting xz
Arch tries to always be as current as possible, for better or for worse. So this definitely makes sense for arch
TheTxT··on On Handwriting and Switching to Cursive
I was born in 2000 and learned writing cursive. After some years of my teachers complaining that they are unable to read my chicken scratch one of them suggested I should try to write in „normal“ print lettering instead. This solved the issue and I haven’t written anything in cursive since.

Maybe it can first check if something is on the other end before blasting full power
TheTxT··on Ask HN: I found an open-redirect vulnerability in Google, but they won't fix
yeah I also realized after doing some testing myself, but if the site you're trying to link to is listed in google search or if you can somehow reverse engineer it, then it doesn't really matter
TheTxT··on Ask HN: I found an open-redirect vulnerability in Google, but they won't fix
Those redirect URLs under googles domain are part of every search results page, so my question would be how the vulnerability you found is creating more dangers than the existing mechanism. That is probably the reason why google won't fix it, because they have already accepted the risk to facilitate better tracking of users.
TheTxT··on Fun with DNS TXT Records
Thanks for the suggestion! It was really fun
