TT-392··on Ask HN: Am I the only one here who can't stand HN's AI obsession?
most people I know who used to browse hn have left because of this (I am not exaggerating), and I barely ever look at it either anymore, so asking here is probably gonna give you a biased view.
TT-392··on Autism and PTSD Are Vulnerably Linked
It does, some PTSD therapies explicitly teach people with PTSD how to stim.
TT-392··on Firefly III: A free and open source personal finance manager
I am not sure, it would just throw errors when starting it back up, was a while ago by now.
TT-392··on Firefly III: A free and open source personal finance manager
After a day of trying to get it to work at all (tried through both the docker thing and the non-docker thing) and finally getting it to work. Then, the nexy time I try to start it, shit being broken again, I rage quitted and switched to hledger. I'm sure it is easy if you are in the webdev/devops world though.
TT-392··on Harvesting electricity from high-voltage transmission lines using fences
The same goes if the fence is there and grounded though?
TT-392··on Apple introduces spatial video capture on iPhone 15 Pro
Did apple just rebrand 3D video as "spacial video"?
TT-392··on Typst – Compose Papers Faster
The compiler is open source, and written in rust. The web interface is free, and I think it will stay that way? (I think they run on donations). They could really use some clearer marketing on the front page...
TT-392··on Typst – Compose Papers Faster
That is not what typst is though, it really is just a language and a compiler which you can just run in your commandline (and a fast one at that). There is that flashy web interface, but that is separate from typst itself, but you don't need to use that, it really is a latex replacement.
TT-392··on SpaceX Loses Starship Spaceraft During Test Flight
I didn't say N1 came close to starship, just that it was closer than SLS
TT-392··on SpaceX Loses Starship Spaceraft During Test Flight
Wouldn't its nearest competitor be the N1 rocket? That thing did have some liftoffs.
TT-392··on Grayjay – Follow Creators Not Platforms
How does the app get the youtube videos, and their info. Is it scraping, like newpipe. Using official api's, maybe something closer to what youtube vanced did?

Would it just stop working when WEI is implemented?

TT-392··on mAh Is an Industry Mistake
I don't think "capacity" neccesarily has a concrete unit connected to it. I am pretty sure you could call both the charge and the energy in a battery its capacity.
TT-392··on Plug and socket types around the world
I kinda hate how in europe (or in the netherlands at least) there are non-grounded outlets that fit grounded plugs, and grounded outlets that don't fit non-grounded plugs.

Ideally, grounded outlets would all be type F. And non-grounded outlets should be the compact, recessed type-c in which you can't fit a grounded plug.

Though, I think they are very slowly moving to just making everything a grounded type F outlet.

TT-392··on Scientists Have Developed the Whitest White Paint Ever Made – Can Cool Surfaces
Probably better off covering building area, to save double, by reducing the need for AC.
TT-392··on The ideal viewport doesn't exist
When I visit my bank, with my browser taking up half my 1080p desktop display, it tells me to use the app instead.
TT-392··on Lacros on Chromebooks transition plan won’t be quick
Idk, but from the people I know that were there, most of them were running their own laptops, though that might not have been a representative sample.
TT-392··on Lacros on Chromebooks transition plan won’t be quick
Pretty sure most were running natively, but idk, I didn't ask them.
TT-392··on How does a mobile GPU work? [pdf]
Hmm, fair enough, I guess I should have clarified that I was talking about the official "manga guide" series
TT-392··on Lacros on Chromebooks transition plan won’t be quick
I went to fosdem for the first time this year. I had heard the stories, but most laptops I saw did appear to be running linux. Though maybe it is because I don't care about the big web dev and related rooms.
TT-392··on Ask HN: What's the coolest physical thing you've made?
I tried to get into RC planes, but not living near any places where flying is even allowed really ruined those plans.

As for the keyboard, it is a split arisu style keyboard: https://fosstodon.org/@TT_392/109920314230277590

TT-392··on How does a mobile GPU work? [pdf]
This one isn't "manga guide" though. I don't think the source is even japanese, cause it reads from left to right (kinda jarring, reading a manga looking comic from left to right). I think this one just comes straight from arm.
TT-392··on Ask HN: What's the coolest physical thing you've made?
One of my favorites is an RC boat made out of metal. It turns out that you can get 0.3mm thick, tin plated steel, cut it with scissors, bend it, and solder it together with a normal soldering iron.

Another other one would be a split keyboard, for which I designed and built everything (case, pcb, plate, software) from scratch.

TT-392··on The Right to Lie and Google’s “Web Environment Integrity”
Every website with google ads becoming unusable. And also, every site using google captcha.
TT-392··on Unihertz Jelly 2E – smartphone with 3“ screen
have you tried 8pen/8vim, it looks like it makes more sense than qwerty for the small screen, though, it has a bit of a learning curve. Also, I know that for japanese, you have those 12 key keyboards, where holding down while dragging up, down, left, or right, means different characters. I think that could work for other languages as well.
TT-392··on Dropped iPad implicated in fatal Rotak Chinook helicopter crash
I think that was a camera
TT-392··on It's official: Smartphones will need to have replaceable batteries by 2027
now my waterdamaged fairphone 3plus just needs to hold out until then
TT-392··on Nothing Phone (2)
I don't get it
TT-392··on Fairphone 3 gets seven years of updates, besting every other Android OEM
They support /e/OS, but it comes with normal android out of the box.
TT-392··on GPT-Migrate converts repos from one lang/framework to another
Idk, I'd get nonfunctioning code. With explanations of what every piece of code does. Just that the code it is explaining, is actually gibbrish.
TT-392··on Computer Speed Gains Erased by Modern Software
If I had ultimate power, I'd make it mandatory for all software demos to be done on a machine with a core 2 duo and 1 GB of ram. Only allowing for fancy hardware for stuff that really utilizes it. And no, moving everything to the cloud as a cheat is not allowed.
