TKnab··on Maslow 4: Large format CNC routing made accessible
There is this https://www.compassrouter.com

Repo here: https://github.com/camchaney/handheld-cnc

Not at all associated with the project, just came across it the other day. Look like it uses a single optical mouse sensor and corrects in a single dimension at a time.

TKnab··on EVs have more reliability problems than gas cars, says Consumer Reports
Hey there, fellow Rochesterian. Too bad the county declined to do that feasibility study on replacing RG&E with a public utility... That said, yeah, personally I would like an EV, but RG&E's push is somewhat off-putting, especially with the insane billing issues I, and many others [1], have had recently.

TKnab··on Cities should not pay for new stadiums
This is definitely true to an extent, and sports absolutely help with recognition. However, as native Rochesterian, and unashamed Bills and Sabres fan, with close ties to Buffalo, although the population numbers are similar, now, Buffalo was once a much larger city than Rochester, and still feels significantly larger. This probably accounts for some of Buffalo being a much more recognizable place than Rochester, too.
TKnab··on A History of The Rochester, NY Camera and Lens Companies (1974)
Wow, I grew up in Churchville. Spent some time in Pittsburgh and Boston and now I'm back in Rochester (East Side). Never thought I'd see my tiny hometown mentioned on HN.
TKnab··on 1MW Molten-Salt Test Reactor by Copenhagen Atomic for €88k [video]
A prototyping failure on a fission reactor is a little different than a rocket exploding on the launchpad...
TKnab··on The Strong Museum receives donation of Ralph Baer materials
As a Rochester native and current resident, this is really great. If you're ever in the Finger Lakes region, the Strong Museum is absolutely worth visiting whether you have kids or not for the Toy and Video Game Halls of Fame.
