I can only recommend reading his works, they are deeply profound.
Edit: Misread cylindrical as conical
I figure you noticed the drastic increase in repo activity and stars. What's your own opinion on java-ness of the code? Do you feel it is an accurate assessment?
I hope you didn't take it personal, I've most certainly done similar things when I learned C# after doing java for the initial university courses.
The original README mentions .NET Framework 4, so C# has progressed a fair amount since.
[0] https://github.com/jgosar/mine-city-2000/commit/f1cbe98601c4...
Here's what I've noticed so far:
- Uses camelCase instead of PascalCase
- Uses setter and getter methods instead of C# properties.
- Uses reverse DNS namespace com.mc2k.SimCityReader instead of e.g. JGosar.MineCity2000.SimCityReader.
- Lack of LINQ (It is such a big part of C#, that not using it at all is strange).*
- Lac of using generics e.g. List<string> instead of string[].*
- Excessive use of arrays (you'd typically use a simple IEnumerable<T> or List<T>).
- Lack of `var`.*
- Casting integer literals to short, byte, etc -- these all have equivalent literal notation.*
- Lack of extension methods.*
- Lack of maps (pattern matching).*
There could be more, but those are what I noticed.
EDIT: * Given that the original code was done with VS 2010 and .NET Framework 4, its fair to say that a few of the points above do not apply, but the code is nevertheless very java-esque (just from the first two points).
Slightly off-topic; if there ever was a excellent example of what it means when a C# program is being written by a java developer, this would certainly qualify.
Was this ported from a java project?
Majority of retail continued throughout the "lock-down", but with an abundance of care taken in terms of keeping a 2m distance, limited number of customers in a shop (queue stretching out of stores is a common sight), and alcohol sanitizers everywhere.
The majority of businesses and institutions have reopened (schools and kindergardens being the first ones), and restaurants, café and cinemas have just recently opened (with appropriate restrictions).
What is interesting is that Sweden has seen the roughly the same level of economic contraction as Denmark, despite the vastly different policies.
First off, Grafana is amazing! So keep up the good work.
Question: Currently alerts are fairly limited both in applicable panels and how they export/share relevant data to the chosen notification channel, as well as more advanced conditions. Is there any work going on with improving alerts?
It is genuinely difficult to spot that it’s actually “just” a website.
When you lock windows while it’s playing it shows up with media details like album art, play/pause etc.
It is additionally “registered” in the start menu, and correct icons and windows taskbar behaviour is used, making it virtually indistinguishable from a native app.
Very useful when making gradients.
I used this for my MSc thesis project :)

And it also makes a difference for a company, as you can set a € price, and it can work for more or less the entire EU.
E.g. in Denmark (although not part of €, but pegged to 100€ ~ 745kr.) you can with full support, do all your bookkeeping/accounting denominated in Euro if you so please, as the danish state allows for bookkeeping denominated in DKK and EUR.
So of course it's free. You are not paying. And you don't pay it over taxes, society does. Think of it this way: If you didn't go to university, and just learned on your own, then you still pay the same taxes if you reach the same income level. So taking a university does not increase your taxes. Ergo free.
So the end results is that talent is spread across, and no single country has ability to become the place to be.
What might look silly from the outside is an unparalleled experience in accelleration on the inside. Only Tesla's, motorcycles and proper sport cars can match the 0-50 km/h (which is everything you care about in a city commute).
In Denmark there’s the same sort of experience by foreigners, and I’ve heard it happens in Germany as well.
The situation is that in the local language, there’s a lot subtlety that simply gets lost in translation.
You can probably throw a little culturally bluntness on it as well, but the majority is down to translation.
Skype worked as a p2p network, where some peers where marked as super peers and would help with peers behind firewalls (UDP-holepunching), and routing through the super peer. If your phone became a super peer, you could expect to essentially work like a server, with the "benefits" of increased bandwidth usage and power usage. Not exactly what you want as a mobile user.
So Microsoft had to change the architecture (which wasn't designed with mobile devices in mind) into a more centralised approach that could work with mobile devices.

We have people sometimes produce the software equivalent of a Picasso, but it so rarely comes to light, and even more rarely codified to guidelines/standard-practice.
Would be very good to have "greatest-hits" of a company's codebase, that could serve as internal knowledge-sharing.
If it's not strictly needed, then it does more harm than good, by distracting listeners.
My intuition tells me that Bitcoin would see a surge, as it becomes a stronger pillar of monetary value that crosses country borders, similar to the dollar, but not tied to the US.
But I will go as far and say that implicit rating fits a lot more than explicit, because it doesn't require the user to do extra work on top of the base goal of listing to "good" music.
I feel like explicit rating scales very poorly with catalogue size. So when you have music, and as much music as Spotify has, then the work effort of explicitly rating your taste becomes too big, you start to not bother, and quality of rating becomes poor.
