Systemic33··on Show HN: Berlin Hacker News
You should try to watch How I Met Your Mother in german, that is so weird, but quite hilarious.
Systemic33··on Cosmos Browser – Connect to the Internet via SMS, no data or wifi required
A big problem to solve is that SMS is notoriously bad at delivery. You may have SMS's dropped for weird reasons, and delivery reports aren't exactly reliable.
Systemic33··on The Racial Dot Map: One Dot Per Person for the Entire U.S.
California Mens Prison according to Google Maps.
Systemic33··on iPhone 6
Poor camera is not a software problem. It's a matter of hardware. And skimping on the qualitative stuff like a camera is a very easy way to lower price.
Systemic33··on Google Employees Secretly Live on Campus to Avoid Paying Rent
In any normal case i'd agree, but Quora is just a straight out terrible place to share stuff because it's essentially a paywall. (paying with money or a registration doesn't really make a difference for this situation).
Systemic33··on Google Employees Secretly Live on Campus to Avoid Paying Rent
Can't Google just setup dormitories? It's halfway on being it's own city, so why not go all out and have cheap living quarters?
Systemic33··on Georgia dealers want Tesla store shuttered for selling too many Teslas
I have no words for how absurd this is.

What happened to free market economy? How are americans totally fine with a company being denied its ability to sell its product to its end users?

And it's probably the exact same people later chanting that Europe is communist...

Systemic33··on Notes on the Celebrity Data Theft
Just to be pedantic: By the same logic, Google is also grossly hosting tonnes of illegal material.
Systemic33··on C3.js: D3-based reusable chart library
I think thats why it's still at version 0.3

But they do have a lot of examples, a lot more than eg. nvd3.

Systemic33··on C3.js: D3-based reusable chart library
Does nvd3 have any documentation besides some basic examples? while c3 doesn't have a completely documented API atm, it atleast has a very extensive set of examples.
Systemic33··on Steve Ballmer steps down as board member at Microsoft
I'm quite certain Intel is pretty focused on making faster, smaller and more efficient processors.
Systemic33··on George Orwell's review of Mein Kampf (1940)
He has pretty communistic views himself, so to me this just seems like a bit of bias showing.
Systemic33··on The end of neighbours
It's quite the paradox that humans are incredibly dependent on social interaction, but we would rather avoid contact because we are afraid of the what consequences it might have on our life.
Systemic33··on The end of neighbours
I would hazard a guess that its more common in apartments to be socially distant. Because you are far more likely to get annoyed by the neighbour being noisy, you don't have any windows to interact through with them (eg. waving) and most important (imo) of all: you can't just talk in the hallway/stairway the same way you do in a garden or across a fence. And actually entering someones quarters is probably a lot more socially taxing than just stading in their garden.

What do you reckon?

Systemic33··on The end of neighbours
As many people have already said, the article seems to jump to a conclusion rather quickly.

What the author might not have taken into account is cultural changes in living habits. With that I mean how we are increasingly moving away from our parents home, and into our own little cell/room/apartment, instead of living with the parents in the house or in an attached building. And when people did move out, it would more than often be either because you moved into a dormitory (which previously were more communal) or together with a SO. That means more time spent in the neighbourhood, and more time with the middle ring as it's called in the article.

It could be interesting to compare the situation in america with for example the situation in Italy, where it's more common to stay at the parents for longer.

Systemic33··on A Traditional City Primer
I've seen the same kind of narrow streets in LA, which gave the same cozy feeling. I'm talking about places like The Grove in LA.[1] The difference between these and the authentic type of narrow streets is, that the grove is a privately owned estate area, that can set its own rules. Whereas the authentic ones are owned by the city, and don't just close for the night or ban alcohol, or what not.

Systemic33··on Microsoft Looks to Cut Up to 18,000 Jobs
Based on the letter he recently sent out, it's extremely long considering the intended receiver (everyone), and you need to read it several times before you fully understand it. Which resulted in big newspapers not agreeing how it was to be understood (eg. Was Xbox a core business, or not) This layoff round was kinda expected.
Systemic33··on Microsoft Looks to Cut Up to 18,000 Jobs
I'm not very impressed with the choice of Nadella so far, he seems too deep into MS culture to be able to see clearly. But only time will tell, it's still to early to give a verdict.
Systemic33··on DTU sets new world record for data transmission (43 Tbit/s single fibre, 67km)
I could't find an english article, so if you have any translation questions, just ask me. I'm a bachelor student at DTU (Technical University of Denmark), although not involved in this.
Systemic33··on Blink
This combination is really evil: https://www.google.com/search?q=tilt#q=ocd
Systemic33··on FCC approves plan to consider paid priority on Internet
Starting with the "land of opportunity and freedom" Insert picture of eagle...

wow,

such irony.

And then people are up in arms about moving backbone internet functionality out of US, claiming that the internet is in its most free form when situated in America. With this FCC ruling, it's more or less confirmed that this statement is a joke. American freedom seems to be restricted to the freedom to wield a firearm.

Systemic33··on Tell HN: Call your mom
Is mothers day the results of americans working so much that they never call their parents unless it's a day dedicated to do it? Best Regards from EU.
Systemic33··on CShell: A simple, yet powerful, C# scripting IDE
This is exactly what i need to test out if some code behaves how i want it to, without having to create a new test, open a new project or running code in actual project.
Systemic33··on Show HN: Spotify International Pricing Index
It's clearly priced according to the cost of living/wage level.
Systemic33··on RSS: What Not Dying Looks Like
RSS as a consumer facing tech was never really alive. The way it lives today is as an medium of transportation. Its the equivalent of a news page in JSON format. But unlike JSON, it is purposebuilt for article delivery, instead of being simply data delivery.
Systemic33··on Unpythonic Python
Not enough factories in the java-ic python...
Systemic33··on How many people does it take to colonize another star system?
I would think it would be similar to living during war times, in terms of restriction. I'd also imagine that the kids would not really know better if they haven't tried anything else.
Systemic33··on European Parliament passes net neutrality law
And some of them are still culturally at war ;)

Systemic33··on Coffee and its Effects on Feature Creep (2011)
In Denmark, this app is almost universally owned, basicly anyone with a smartphone has it. The competing banks have tried to introduce their own system, but its dependant on users having their bank, which means nobody will actually use it, whereas this can be used by anyone with a Danish bank account.
Systemic33··on Coffee and its Effects on Feature Creep (2011)
In Denmark, the biggest bank have made an app where you sign up with your bank account and payment card. Then you can transfer money between friends (sending, asking and splitting). And it only requires you to login with a PIN code, and then you just use peoples mobile nr.

There's obviously limits on how much can be transferred, but it's ideal for those small purchases.

It's available on iOS, Android and even Windows Phone. Link to Android version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.danskebank....

Currently free to use, but in some years there's a minor percentage fee.
