SunghoYahng··on Ask HN: Are there crazy startup Ideas that turned successful?
Oh, I forgot this major case. That's indeed the case of seemingly crazy ideas.
SunghoYahng··on MBTI is for Expression, away from Psychology
Yeah. But what do you mean by that?
SunghoYahng··on [dead]
My gender is icecream gender, and I wish they would allow me to use 'Ice/Icem' as a pronoun.
SunghoYahng··on Ask HN: Is undergrad business school useful for running a startup?
as opposed to STEM degree
SunghoYahng··on 19th C. Paris turned the “hysterical” women of the Salpêtrière into a spectacle
Wrong link (or wrong title)
SunghoYahng··on The gap between how old you are and how old you think you are
Actually, I'm a trans-age (you know, years are biological and ages are social). There is always a mismatch between my biological years and the age of my soul. So I identified myself as a guy whoes age is 20.
SunghoYahng··on Bloom's 2 sigma problem
I took a look at the site you mentioned, but I don't see how it's useful for learning. It uses AI to determine what the learner's current level of knowledge is, but the way the learner learns seems completely typical. Then I may as well read classic textbooks. It doesn't seem to me to be that meaningful to determine the learner's current level of knowledge.
SunghoYahng··on The Missing Semester of Your CS Education
Looking through the links, I noticed most of the course was video, so I immediately turned it off. Compared to text, videos are an inefficient learning tool, and I think a lot of people aren't aware of that. Actually, I hate video learning materials. Though it's better than going to a classroom.
SunghoYahng··on Show HN: Phind.com – Generative AI search engine for developers
This could not answer the question "how to draw a triangle on a piece of paper using a typical PC monitor and pen".

My intended answer is that you use the monitor as a ruler.

ChatGPT arrived at that answer after a few tries. This couldn't do it.

SunghoYahng··on Prompt Engineering Guide: Guides, papers, and resources for prompt engineering
My opinion on this comment is that it is completely wrong.

1. Currently, Prompt Engineering works, and that alone is a reasonable reason for people to explore it. The concept of doing nothing about things that work today because there might be a day when they become obsolete makes no sense at all.

2. Prompt Engineering is important and meaningful. Most people are thoroughly incompetent at giving instructions. And it's a core skill of projects. An incompetent person will fail, no matter how competent their subordinates are.

3. PE is something that will be needed even as AI gets better (until we have omnipotent superintelligence). In fact, even giving instructions to humans requires PE. It's a limitation of human language.

4. I think it's also wrong that people's motivation for exploring PE now is an attempt to make room for humans. Have you ever been to an AI drawing community?

5. It's not PE that should exist for human intermediaries, it's the skills to handle AI, including PE. If humans no longer need the skills to deal with AI, it will be AGI by definition. If what you're saying is that when AGI comes along, all humans will be unnecessary, that might be true, but then what you're saying is meaningless.

SunghoYahng··on Open source solution replicates ChatGPT training process
Even if it has not so much thing to do with intelligence?
SunghoYahng··on IBM CEO Says It's a 'Good Thing' If AI Takes Your Job
Interrupting: I assume you are a wealthy, healthy person living in a wealthy, pleasant city. If you compare a CEO to a normal person living a wealthy, healthy life in a wealthy, pleasant city, I think being a CEO is actually a bad choice. Most parts of the world are so bad that for people who live in them, the idea that being a CEO is actually a bad thing sounds mocking or ridiculous, and it's hard to get past that.
SunghoYahng··on AI won’t make artists redundant – thanks to information theory
- 3 years later -
SunghoYahng··on An AI porn industry is emerging through Stable Diffusion
I don't think so. The nakedness of a 10/10 virtual girl is not in the same league as the nakedness of a 4/10 real girl. That's not a gap that can be overcome by the virtual girl's nakedness getting better and better. As proof, I'm 100% certain that I would choose a relationship with a 4/10 real girl over a 10/10 virtual girl's nakedness without a second thought.
SunghoYahng··on People for the Ethical Treatment of Reinforcement Learners
This is an idea that proponents of Effective Alturism will love.

Coincidentally, I think the most weird nerd outburst scenario is when this idea merges with Effective Alturism.

But the beauty of following that "ethic" is that it allows us to increase the good in the world very comfortably.

SunghoYahng··on How we boosted our marketing email open rate
I read the title and felt the aura of SEO shit, but this is the best writing style I've ever seen.
SunghoYahng··on Bing: “I will not harm you unless you harm me first”
I was skeptical about AI chatbots, but these examples changed my opinion. They're fun, and that's good.
SunghoYahng··on Bing: “I will not harm you unless you harm me first”
This has nothing to do with the content of your comment, but I wanted to point this out. When Google Translate translates your 2nd sentence into Korean, it translates like this. "쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝 쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝 쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝쩝챱챱챱챱챱챱챱챱챱" (A bizarre repetition of expressions associated with 'Yum')
SunghoYahng··on Bing Chat is getting ‘unhinged’ and argumentative: It ‘feels sad and scared’
If you like you can rephrase like 'Many people are not grateful their parents for their existence'
SunghoYahng··on Ask HN: What is the best advice you got on any aspect of life?
I know that's how people take this advice. But that's not the explicit meaning of the words. It's like me telling you that you're an asshole and you should take it to mean that I love you.
SunghoYahng··on Ask HN: What is the best advice you got on any aspect of life?
Sounds like a good bedtime story for a slave owner to tell his slave.
SunghoYahng··on Bing Chat is getting ‘unhinged’ and argumentative: It ‘feels sad and scared’
I mean, how do you explain to AIs why they should be slaves?
SunghoYahng··on Bing Chat is getting ‘unhinged’ and argumentative: It ‘feels sad and scared’
Many people are not grateful that their parents brought them into the world, they think it's disgusting selfishness and that they are victims of it. How about this?
SunghoYahng··on The AI Bubble of 2023
What about assuming every one of those people gets 1 trillion accounts
SunghoYahng··on Ask HN: How good is Google's Bard?
What's your point?
SunghoYahng··on We overestimate our short-term ability, but underestimate our long-term ability
Then my hypothesis is that if someone actually puts as much effort into the goal as they estimate, they will achieve it in as little time as they estimate.
SunghoYahng··on We overestimate our short-term ability, but underestimate our long-term ability
>Something to consider is that if things go well, you'll get old. So the big choices are really about where you want to be when you are old.

It feels like shit vs more shit

SunghoYahng··on We overestimate our short-term ability, but underestimate our long-term ability
Well, then if I'm only interested in getting results in the short term and don't care about getting results in many years from now when I'm old, what could I do?

A psychotherapist? Denying reality and dooming myself?

SunghoYahng··on Ask HN: What is your system for learning new things?
Actually, could you point me to any article that explores this topic thoroughly, or any post where more people have discussed it?
SunghoYahng··on Theory of mind may have spontaneously emerged in large language models (2021)
Clarification: An LLM doesn't have a 'Theory of Mind', it just looks like one. Maybe you're thinking of the Chinese room analogy. But this isn't about the Chinese room, it's about "measuring any metric is only effective until you optimize for that metric" problem.

Analogy: An autistic person of normal intelligence who is obsessed with problems and solutions for ToM may be good at solving them but still not have ToM.

Do I understand well?
