> Now we’re in a great place, we all want the same thing. We’re all in on making new music, no one is trying to make this a career or go on tour. It has to be fun, that’s number one.
This is key. I've made more music goofing off than I did when I sat down to write a song seriously.
To be honest, I've felt this way about many books - as though I'd read them at a point in life when their message exactly resonated with me.
Sometimes it's happens that a book I read a long time ago didn't have much impact, but a reread at a later date has me feeling the same way as you.
There are some books I keep rereading, just to experience that feeling again, although it's not quite the same. I suppose our exact life situation at the moment of reading decides the life-changing impact of a book.
Being a big Tolstoy fan, I'm expecting the book to be life-changing anyway.
- matrix spaces not hidden behind auth
- indexed by search engines
- chat channels
- subreddit like posts with nested replies, voting etc
- private invite-only spaces
Hoping to get voice/audio working soon, along with encrypted DMs. Experimenting with activitypub integration too.
It's a negative trend that all the collective knowledge of these communities end up being siloed in platforms that can't be accessed from the open web.
I'm just more familiar with the Matrix protocol, having built several projects on it. Activitypub is pretty cool though and I'm working on AP support, so Shpong should be able to interface with Lemmy in the near future!

I'm running Arch/i3 on a Thinkpad X13, it's decent enough for most dev work.
Pretty cool that both Metallica and Megadeth have just put out new records. Some of the songs on the Megadeth album have their classic thrash feel to them, which I wasn't expecting - the guitar riffs are nuts.
For folks who want to move their communities to a publicly accessible Matrix server, I'm building Shpong [0]. Heavy WIP obviously.
The trend of moving to closed-off spaces is bad for the open web. I'm hoping we're able to reverse it, despite everyone wanting to close things down due to AI panic.
Yes, putting your cart back in the right place is the decent thing to do. But needlessly antagonizing people who don't, and then putting these videos up for everyone to see and mock just seems strange to me.
I'm sure the YouTube revenue is worth it though.
If you like Ukridge, then you could also read 'Love Amount the Chickens', which features the Ukridge character.
'Ukridge' is perhaps the funniest collection of stories ever written, it's magic. I love all the books set in Blandings. While the Jeeves books were not my favorite when I was younger, I really really enjoy them now.
More and more communities are moving to closed-off apps hidden behind auth, and not being indexed by search engines. This is quite unfortunate, and I'm hoping that Shpong can (soon) be a viable alternative that respects the open web.
Shpong instances federate with each other, and I'm working on adding ActivityPub compatibility as well.
It's still early days, but I'll probably do a Show HN at some point.
Also, nice username. ;)
If I had to choose the greatest song ever written, I would not hesitate to go with The Weight. The version [0] from The Waltz is especially brilliant.
I also have them on audiobook and will sometimes dip in and listen to a particular dialogue I like.
Maybe it's harder to appreciate it now, I can definitely understand why it would be.
I liked that book when I was young but a recent reading didn't leave me super impressed.
My absolute favorite book by Hesse is Narcissus and Goldmund, it's beautiful. The Glass Bead game is pretty amazing too.
