StuffMaster··on Apple shuffles AI executive ranks in bid to turn around Siri
>The strangest thing about this is in the system configuration dialogs where they have a set of really gee whizzy modern configuration screens but you still have to go into 15 year old screens to do many common tasks

I much prefer the older screens. They are so much easier to use.

StuffMaster··on I Switched to Firefox and Never Looked Back
Oh god please no. Chrome's history/bookmarks UI is awful.
StuffMaster··on The Ugly Truth About Spotify Is Finally Revealed
And you can use whatever software you want
StuffMaster··on How do you do, fellow web developers? A growing disconnect
>Okay, you might argue that in earlier decades programmers also tended to have an understanding of hardware circuit design and how a CPU and memory etc. works in terms of logical gates and clocks

My degree included this and I'm very glad it did.

StuffMaster··on Microsoft is finally removing the FAT32 partition size limit in Windows 11
The idea of patenting a filesystem is absurd
StuffMaster··on Ask HN: What makes Windows 11 perform much worse than Windows XP?
I'd like to hear more...

Comparing Facebook to an ISP is highly disengenuous.
StuffMaster··on When do we stop finding new music?
I know what you mean but at that point I started blaming the system! I still don't know that song.
StuffMaster··on When do we stop finding new music?
Yep. I recall this happening. Let's all praise DEREGULATION and the dollars it brought us.
StuffMaster··on SeaMonkey All-in-One Internet Application Suite
>Not the same thing dude. This interface is straight outta 2005. Chrome's interface has been being tweaked constantly over the years. It doesn't need an overhaul because it's not 15+ years out of date.

You basically repeated my point. Change for change's sake. And it looks similar to 2009 Chrome, so yeah it's quite literally 15 years out of date.

>look like it was there when 9/11 happened while everything else looks new

So change for change's sake it seems.

StuffMaster··on SeaMonkey All-in-One Internet Application Suite
I think I now understand the mentality of a Cybertruck buyer
StuffMaster··on SeaMonkey All-in-One Internet Application Suite
It looks perfectly fine to me.

Changing for change's sake would mean that Chrome will need a new interface soon in order to not look ancient...

StuffMaster··on I Used Netscape Composer in 2024
I really really really agree with you.
StuffMaster··on NotepadNext – a cross-platform reimplementation of Notepad++
Pull-down menus are so obtrusive! You SHOULD prefer to hunt and hunt and hunt for the button you want. The future is now and it sucks.
StuffMaster··on NotepadNext – a cross-platform reimplementation of Notepad++
I also love Notepad2. Both are awesome.
StuffMaster··on People hate the idea of car-free cities until they live in one
Some new developments in the US are "mixed use" which emulates what you described.
StuffMaster··on DVD's New Cousin Can Store More Than a Petabit
Whoah if that's true it should be more known...
StuffMaster··on Stop postponing things by embracing the mess

StuffMaster··on Intel's Humbling
I thought it was a bad idea when I first read of it. It reminded me of Intel's Netburst (Pentium 4) architecture.
StuffMaster··on How to pronounce the trickiest English words
>The Romans modified and adapted the Etruscan alphabet, which was borrowed from the Greek, who borrowed it from the Phoenicians , etc. to their own language.

Also as I recall those are each unrelated languages so the letter/sound congruity dropped markedly at each transition.

(I'm not sure if that's the correct way to put it. Also I tried to sound really smart in writing it.)

StuffMaster··on AWS Customers Cannot Escape IPv4
All I see are combo units these days.
StuffMaster··on The History of Windows 2.0
It was exciting because it was Windows NT and had pre-emptive multitasking and MAC and dynamic driver loading and NTFS.

getoffmylawn!!

StuffMaster··on The History of Windows 2.0
The world is going crazy and we are doomed to suffer. I pray some of these trends will reverse.

Some youngins today complain that regular apps/programs look old and "not modern". I want to slap them hard.

StuffMaster··on The History of Windows 2.0
I came here to make a similar comment. I've made the same Teams/mIRC comment before myself.
StuffMaster··on Builder's Remedy goes into effect in many California cities tomorrow
>The “builder’s remedy” is a very old law from the 1990s

Yeah that ain't "very old"

StuffMaster··on Japanese explained to programmers
> In fact I'd say that English in comparison feels like a man-made language purpose built for math and technology.

Do explain!

StuffMaster··on Bulldozer, AMD’s Crash Modernization: Front End and Execution Engine
This comment represents the analysis I remember understanding at the time. I was disappointed with AMD.
StuffMaster··on Ask HN: How do ADHD people cope on here?
I use hckrnews.com and only visit periodically.
StuffMaster··on Building a website like it's 1999
>those people from 90th were putting their creativity into something only handful of people will ever see, they were effectively shouting to void.

That's not quite true. Your friends would see it. As would anybody browsing any directory you signed up for - your ISP, college, etc.

Nobody cared about shouting at the world back then.
