Occasionally when encountering bugs in various software/hardware combinations i have seen suggested fixes of ‘just re-pair everything to a hub’ which for a full house will take a day and drive you insane.
One additional concern is the environmental impact of the number of cr2302 batteries in use - one for most switches and sensor that aren’t permanently wired in - even with a 1-2 year battery life it adds up to a lot. I think firmware updates in current systems take a big bite out of theoretical battery life spans.
In fact, other users take away your money from artists you like if they are a heavier user of the service than you - as they get more of the total pot in current system. From the point of view of the big labels who have control this is a feature not a bug. http://www.serci.org/congress_documents/2019/user_centric_re...
In previous feedback to Spotify I’ve asked for a ‘hide podcasts’ option in the iPhone app. It’s unwanted clutter I don’t use.
Time to redirect the money I pay to the artists I listen to. What systems would others recommend?
Seems to be described in this patch comment: https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/xfs/patch/157784114490....
I’m sure Spotify will know the numbers for moving to user centric streaming payouts, would be very interesting to know the truth of who the winners and losers would be.
There’s a bit of info and some research here: https://musically.com/2020/05/13/what-are-user-centric-music...
I think the option to be user centric could be a compelling feature for premium customers, to show money is going to artists fans love, and ultimately move more people on to the premium versions of streaming platforms
Personally at this time I’m more concerned that my Spotify subscription is subsidizing podcasts by Joe Rogan than Drake / Taylor Swift.
Anyone know how true this is? Particularly for mobile/asymmetric bandwidth connections - what might the errors bars be?
Like the quote says: “There are two hard things in computer science: cache invalidation, naming things, and off-by-one errors.”

It’s the same large IT contractors whose names seem to come up again and again in these public cases
A new office development will not get planning approval if it has more than 2 parking spaces per 3 employees (based on some obscure measurement of building capacity). This is to reduce congestion and encourage more environmentally friendly methods of transportation.
Incidentally, I only discovered this recently after hearing the Apollo 11 astronauts use one to play a prank on mission control while on the way back to earth. You can hear this at the amazing https://apolloinrealtime.org/11/ (definitely works best on desktop not mobile)
