StefanBatory··on AI coding tools can reduce productivity
Is DB2 Admin more productive than Java dev on the same seniority?

What about countries? In my Poland $25k would be an amazing salary for a senior while in USA fresh grads can earn $80k. Are they more productive?

... at the same time, given same seniority, job and location - I'd be willing to say it wouldn't be a bad heuristic.

StefanBatory··on The death of partying in the USA
I grew up very sheltered, my mom had anxiety and I was a single child.

I remember being unable to comprehend how in media, people could just go somewhere without issues to met with people or even go for a walk. I knew that was a thing, but I could not imagine what it's actually like and if it's real.

StefanBatory··on Are we the baddies?
If everyone uses them, they're the real life.

It's like, saying social media is not real. Well, maybe it is. But right now where I live they shaped the politics of our country.

StefanBatory··on Are we the baddies?

I sometimes browse my city Spotted pages.

It's an common thing to see someone complaining about a "creep" (quotes as in, I'm quoting them) because someone tried to hit up on them and so on.

In today world, what you're speaking is at best dangerous.

StefanBatory··on Is anybody using this private key?
On my home PC Avast blocks it too.
StefanBatory··on YouTube No Translation
Even worse - if I search something in my native language, it's because I want to see things relevant to my country! I don't care about experiences of someone in USA or Brasil if I look up for something in Polish :<
StefanBatory··on I deleted my second brain
I feel like someone who never struggled with mental health will never get someone who did.

I dealt with anxiety, it certainly sounds like something I'd do. It's not that it's digital notes, that I can leave - no, my mind would be occupied with them. When I was younger, I would throw my stuff away, hoping that it will help me get more disciplined.

StefanBatory··on I deleted my second brain
I don't understand why people are saying it's LLM.

To me it's more of a stream of consciousness style of writing.

StefanBatory··on 'Sticky thinking' hampers decisions in depression
when I was on SSRI, I didn't really feel any better. What it was for me is that I didn't reach the bottom so easily. If my mood was normally like from 3 to -10, on SSRI it went from 3 to like -5/-6.
StefanBatory··on Germany and Italy pressed to bring $245B of gold home from US
Of course, that was supposed to be - we do not know, not this.

Sorry, that's what I get for writing w/o thinking and I can't edit it now.

StefanBatory··on Gov. Greg Abbott vetoes THC ban
Thank you!

How do you do that highlight on Wiki? Is it just via URL or is there a handy way to share a link like that?
StefanBatory··on Microsoft suspended the email account of an ICC prosecutor at The Hague
And Trump is President of the US..
StefanBatory··on Microsoft suspended the email account of an ICC prosecutor at The Hague
It doesn't matter Trump says many random things.

What matters is that the President of the US has said so.

StefanBatory··on Germany and Italy pressed to bring $245B of gold home from US
We do know know, there are so many people who would have loved to see Nord Stream blown up.

Our foreign minister for example in Poland, thanked USA for doing so :P I for example I'm happy NS2 got blown up, as it means relative safety for us. Germans won't be able to just go on about their business with Russia in the future.

StefanBatory··on I wrote my PhD Thesis in Typst
Not really for me in Poland - thesis was the only thing we had to write in a technical way.
StefanBatory··on YouTube's new anti-adblock measures
"You criticise society, yet you live in it. Curious."
StefanBatory··on Microsoft suspended the email account of an ICC prosecutor at The Hague
It's funny seeing Americans start to repeat Russian line of thought.

"Who allowed you to live like that"...

StefanBatory··on Sega mistakenly reveals sales numbers of popular games
To see WH3 sell less than Three Kingdoms was a surprise to me.
StefanBatory··on Now might be the best time to learn software development
> You can refuse to work with anyone writing vapid pro-LLM blog posts. You can blacklist them in hiring.

This works only if everyone is on with this. If they're not, you're shooting yourself in the foot while doing job hunting.

StefanBatory··on Now might be the best time to learn software development
In my country a MP of lower house sent out a tweet generated by LLMs.

As in, copied it with a prompt in.

StefanBatory··on Sam Altman Says Meta Offered OpenAI Staffers $100M Bonuses
I think most of us work for money ;)
StefanBatory··on NexusMods Changes Hands
Because it doesn't work with pirated games.

Saying that only half jokingly.

> "and when I turn on the emergency radio (if you have one), all you hear is “Swan Lake” on repeat."

Why did you cut out that part?

StefanBatory··on Air India flight to London crashes in Ahmedabad with more than 240 onboard
Because not everyone is privileged enough to be able to ignore news.
StefanBatory··on Research suggests Big Bang may have taken place inside a black hole
It would be a nice argument for deism - but to jump from that into anything more, seems way too extreme of a leap.

Why Christianity then, over Hinduism? Why any human religion at all?

StefanBatory··on Denuvo Analysis
Also unrelated, but seeing "A 2nd Year Computer Science Student" in the blog name was both breathtaking in a positive way, but also hurts a little. Kudos to the author, seriously.
StefanBatory··on Show HN: Most users won't report bugs unless you make it stupidly easy
So instead of getting a fix, you'll choose to be angry.

It is an approach, for sure.

StefanBatory··on Field Notes from Shipping Real Code with Claude
I had been musing over this. Will devs in very cheap countries still stay an attractive option, just because they'd be still cheaper monthly than Claude.
