SlimyHog··on Why Doesn't Anyone Want to Fix One of America's Scariest Roads?
Just slow down then....
SlimyHog··on Hang on to Your Firefox
What websites? I've been using Firefox exclusively forever and the only times I've had to switch browsers was doing my passport application and I had to find a windows desktop to get that to work
SlimyHog··on The map that keeps Burning Man honest
Are you trying to imply that Jeff Bezos and Mark Zukerberg are counterculture in some way? What?
SlimyHog··on I ditched Spotify and set up my own music stack
"instead of giving them pennies, let's give them nothing!!!"
SlimyHog··on On Google’s Policy Change Towards Fingerprinting
Firefox.
SlimyHog··on PySkyWiFi: Free stupid wi-fi on long-haul flights
You realize that this part was a joke and didn't actually happen right?
SlimyHog··on Use Rails
This goes hand-in-hand with the idea of using "boring" technology. If it's mission critical, I'd rather be using something battle-tested than the brand-new hot tech. There's re tooling, more documentation and likely more search-able solutions to whatever problems you may run into.
SlimyHog··on Reddit is full of bots: thread reposted comment by comment, 10 months later
I deleted my account once they killed 3rd party apps and whenever I visit I've noticed that the quality of comments is WAY worse than I remember.
SlimyHog··on How I search in 2024
I think they mean "before"
SlimyHog··on Kagi search reached 20k paying members
Since the browser extension only works on the FE, this just means you are hiding the site and receiving fewer results on a page.
SlimyHog··on I Have No Mobile-Friendly Pages
That site sure is something...
SlimyHog··on Apollo will close down on June 30th
> Also, what's the deal with him not wanting to start a competitor?

In addition to what everyone else has said, he really has 1 month if he has any chance of siphoning off reddit users.

SlimyHog··on Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing
I can't even find this feature. I googled "for you" and got LMGTFY and related sites. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
SlimyHog··on Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing
I got banned from some subreddit that I've never visited for making fun of someone in /r/conservative, just because I posted there.
SlimyHog··on Code Blocks in Google Docs
Thanks for a reminder that this is releasing more generally, I use Google Docs for any investigation that I want to share out and have been using screenshots; being able to copy/paste the code will be much better.
SlimyHog··on Overture Maps Foundation
Thank you. This is exactly what I was wondering
SlimyHog··on Contra Wirecutter on the IKEA air purifier
Yeah the one thing I've purchased on their recommendation that I'm not satisfied with is headphones.
SlimyHog··on Ask HN: Is Apple down?
Yeah, I'm seeing anecdotal reports of a bunch of services out
SlimyHog··on All sound recordings prior to 1923 will enter the US public domain in 2022
This would just mean that rich companies/people will get to keep the copyright and others do not. We're in this whole situation where things don't enter the public domain for 100 years because of Disney's lobbying.
SlimyHog··on Ask HN: Are you concerned about your privacy when using services like DocuSign?
> Personally I wouldn't accept a signature made by mouse instead of a pen.

I had to implement a "signature" at my current gig and, legally speaking, a check-box is a valid signature when e-signing something.

SlimyHog··on Data-Mining Wikipedia for Fun and Profit
The HTML is more volatile and subject to change than other sources though
SlimyHog··on Changes to Docker Hub Autobuilds
This seems reasonable to me as a free user. I thought it was rad that I got free compute from dockerhub, but CPU cycles aren't free.
SlimyHog··on Stack Overflow sold to Prosus for $1.8B
> SA is just kind of limping along

Jeffery has been posting financials that look pretty good

SlimyHog··on Companies excluding Coloradans from remote jobs to avoid sharing salary ranges
Oh no, how can these companies underpay their employees now?
SlimyHog··on Ask HN: What services do you pay for every month?
A lot less than I thought:

- HBO

- Digital Ocean

- Disney+

- YouTube Music
