SirMaster··on Returning from vacation? The government can search your phone without a warrant
When I come home I don't even talk to anyone...

I just walk through the global entry gate without interacting with anyone...

SirMaster··on Upgrade your desktop: Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS is now available
You couldn't have upgraded from 24.04 to 26.04?

SirMaster··on Backblaze drive stats for Q2 2026
My 14 TB HGST drives were $135 3 years ago on that site, and now they are $360... I don't see how this is any good sign.
SirMaster··on Backblaze drive stats for Q2 2026
I bought my 14TB drives 3 years ago for $135 each and now they are like $300...
SirMaster··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Do you need to? Do you always keep up with all the version bumps on the software you use?
SirMaster··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Guys, are we slowing down yet?
SirMaster··on Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain
I doubt it's anywhere near that fast in winter when its freezing out.
SirMaster··on Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain
You really think people should get an EV when they don't have anywhere but public chargers to charge?
SirMaster··on Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence
I'll be impressed when it solves the P versus NP problem.
SirMaster··on Apple iPhone 18 Pro Camera test
And how will consumers watch back 8K video?
SirMaster··on Show HN: How Stale Is Your AI? Release age and training cutoff for 20 models
If OpenAI is going to call Astra AGI, then I would expect it to be able to update it's weights to new knowledge, because a generally intelligent being can indeed do this.

I can teach myself to play an instrument, and I'm not just building this huge lookup table that I have to access every time I play the instrument. I am updating the weights in my neurons.

Until AI can do this it's not AGI in my book.

SirMaster··on Show HN: How Stale Is Your AI? Release age and training cutoff for 20 models
This is one of the things that bothers me about AI.

To me, intelligence or an intelligent entity should be able to learn from its mistakes and learn new things on its own. Having to start from scratch to teach an AI new facts or new skills is not very intelligent IMO.

SirMaster··on Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating?
Because that's what humans do and they are trained to mimic what humans do?
SirMaster··on Apple Watch Series 12
Do you wear your watch in the shower?

Perhaps you don't take daily showers, but I just put my watch on the charger when I shower and that's all I ever need to charge it 99% of the time.

SirMaster··on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
But they said the memory bandwidth was double the previous generation.
SirMaster··on Searching for the best silicone USB cable
What is the model or part number for an Anker silicone cable that is faster than USB 2.0?
SirMaster··on Do people prefer stories written by AI?
No, I have 0 interest in AI stories or music or art. I like all of these things because it's a view into the mind of the artist and I want to connect with another human and appreciate what they made and why.
SirMaster··on ChatGPT Images 2.5
I feel like the reason I dislike reading or find reading boring is because I can't. But it's just a theory. Meanwhile I absolutely love movies.
SirMaster··on How I feel about AI
Well doesn't it make sense to replace the more expensive worker first?
SirMaster··on Dwarf Fortress' creator says the industry's in shambles over AI
Well, people often play games not because they are the best game, but because their friends are playing it and they want to join in the experience. This seems to have more to do with marketing than game or code quality, and marketing is not exactly cheap.
SirMaster··on Tether: iMessage, SMS, etc. on Linux
How has it been fixed? It's still just Apple parsing the messages that came through like so and so reacted with some emoji to some message, and then attaching it to that message. But then this doesn't work with reacting to attachments like photos as it doesn't know which photo was reacted to.
SirMaster··on OpenAI Jalapeño: Better than Nvidia Blackwell
Closed loop is of course feasible, and closed loop with an evaporation step is also feasible, but open loop evaporative is the most efficient in terms of total energy usage (cost) and most cost effective in general, so that's what we mostly get right now.
SirMaster··on OpenAI Jalapeño: Better than Nvidia Blackwell
I didn't say evaporative HAS to be open loop, but many are, which answers the question why they use up a bunch of water.
SirMaster··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
Yeah I don't get this, there are plentiful public toilets all over the US.
SirMaster··on OpenAI Jalapeño: Better than Nvidia Blackwell
They evaporate the water which is what makes it cool so effeciently.
SirMaster··on Pixel 11 Pro Fold feels like the end of an era
They aren't moving on from foldable, they are moving on from the shape to a shorter and fatter shaped foldable.
SirMaster··on Expert Witness to ChatGPT: "Show how 3M is 0 percent at fault"
How is this any different from any job? Or at least any knowledge worker job like an engineer or some sort? They hired you, so presumably they want you to do the work or solve the problem, not farm it out to another person or an LLM.
SirMaster··on Pixel 11 Pro Fold
Well I buy the latest pro phone, and you are right I don't pay store price. AT&T gave me the 17 Pro for free when I traded in my 3 year old 14 Pro.

And my monthly cost of the cell plan with them is only $30 plus taxes and fees which works out to about 36/mo, so it seems like a great deal in the end.

Basically I pay 36/mo, and every 3 years I trade in my phone for the latest pro model and it only costs me sales tax and some $30 "activation fee".

SirMaster··on Pixel Watch 5
The 10 and 11 definitely charge faster than the 9, but also you need a decent power supply too, like 25W at least to reach the max speed.
