Sektor··on Ask HN: In what ways can the current financial market high end?
I think there's a lot of extra interest in stocks and crypto and stocks right now, in no small part due to the likes of GME and BTC and the associated media coverage. The greater idiot theory genuinely applies here, as long as people keep believing they haven't 'missed the boat' and keep buying the market will continue to grow (bullish) and as others have said here there tends to be a cascading effect when people start to sell which reverses this (bearish).

Interestingly enough (and the reason I logged into ycombinator today) there seems to have been some attempt by unidentified parties to artificially create a bearish movement for GME, I was surprised no one has created a thread about the fact that Yahoo finance (Wallace Witkowski) had published the stock has 'plummeted' at 11:55 AM EST march 10th when the actual price drop didn't occur until 12:20 PM EST. There's definitely some dangerous house-of-cards going on in the US stock exchange. I don't envy those living there if this all falls down the way people are anticipating it will.

Sektor··on Gemini Earn
Literally still waiting on verification from Gemini after more than 2 months. I've since opened an account with BlockFi (was verified in 24hrs) an account with Binance (same again) and bought crypo from binance and moved it to blockfi for interest gain. Gemini can suck a fat one.

Sektor··on Anti-algorithmic music: How Bandcamp is helping artists beat the odds
Frankly I've stopped using any kind of 'less legal' method of getting MP3s and just buy FLACs from Bandcamp daily now. It's a great site and pretty much everything I've ever wanted is there.

Sektor··on Picotorrent: a tiny, hackable BitTorrent client
For years I've actually been looking for a client that can handle seeding 500+ files and not just completely crap itself all the time. uTorrent seems to be a bit 'unsafe' and full of ads, deluge's web interface regularly falls over. What options are there out there right now?
Sektor··on Apache Guacamole – A clientless remote desktop gateway
Have set this up many times for less tech-savy friends. What I actually did was have them install docker-compose and provided them with a compose script to build up the latest version. I wouldn't use it myself though, I don't think I'd sleep well at night having a single factor auth webserver with access to my entire network.
Sektor··on Hosting Multiple HTTPS Domains from the Same Server with Let's Encrypt and Nginx
I've been trying to do this for a couple of weeks. I have no idea what I'm doing and it's been hard to find any help via google. But I finished it last friday. Without multiple external IP addresses. Funny to see this as the top story when I woke up today. But yes, as caleblloyd says, it's 2017. Use SNI. It's not hard, I'd never even heard of nginx or letsencrypt before I started my project.
Sektor··on Pokémon Go data usage draws attention of House Energy and Commerce Committee [pdf]
These numbers are flat out wrong, there's no way that the game uses '10 to 20 megabytes of data per hour' jpmorgan must have fucked that up somehow. I can't be bothered typing out the whole url referenced in (5) but that's just wrong.

Sektor··on Hacking the PS Vita
I didn't expect to see this OR you here! I read gbatemp/wololo/hn about every hour most days and it's weird to see both worlds come together (in some small way). Congrats on all your work to date and look forward to seeing more from you in this space!
Sektor··on Ask HN: My free app has gone slighty viral – looking for ideas to monetize it
Silly question perhaps but is the app able to display notifications? (primarily for 'messages' from facebook) as this is the main reason most people install the official apps. Perhaps you could build a messaging client that works in conjunction with it and that could be your income stream?
Sektor··on X to close
Interestingly the positioning of the two matches the common use of the nintendo buttons, A for confirm and B for cancel. The western Playstation games are really the exception to the rule.
Sektor··on Stream Torrents Instantly From XBMC
Would it be very hard to make this work with MediaPortal? I know that the two packages started out quite similar but have forked rather drastically over time. I only ask because despite trying to change over to XBMC a number of times (almost every major revision) I've never been able to make it do what I need it to do and MePo has a much higher WAF when setup well.
Sektor··on Starcraft reverse engineered to run on ARM
Yes I was a bit confused that this is supposed to be new information, I installed StarCraft on my android about a year ago using winulator.

It even supports a bluetooth mouse, (which I went and bought the same day I installed and got working). Works perfectly. like having a '96 gaming PC in your pocket(s)

I even changed the winulator icon to StarCraft icon then went to the pub and pulled the mouse out of my pocket, setup my android and made all my iphone-owning friends $#!^ bricks. Good times.

Sektor··on Facebook Doesn’t Want You To Know Who Unfriends You. Do You?
Just a quick note to say that i've found a workaround for this a long time ago - all you need to do is somehow import your facebook 'friends' list into your phone's contact book (i did it on android but i'm sure it's possible on IOS somehow) then when you open the app in the 'find friends' area it's going to suggest any contacts you have that aren't currently your friend on facebook. so anyone listed there has 'unfriended' you since the export. I'm sure it would be trivial for them to close that hole but it's also unlikely because they would want people adding as many real-life friends to their facebook friend list as possible. they have however actively gone after the methods by which you can export the current friend list and import it to the phone (it's in their best interest for this migration to be one-way of course) I think when I did it i used yahoo contacts but that one was 'closed' (sort of, there's still ways)
Sektor··on Think twice before you send: This app can save Snapchats forever
I didn't know what snapchat was, so I had a quick read. I really don't see how this does anything that taking a screenshot wont, or does snapchat do videos too or somehow block the screenshot function on non-jailbroken devices?
Sektor··on Realistic Facebook Privacy Simulator
Took me another 30 seconds just staring at your post here to work it out.
Sektor··on Ad Vulna: Vulnerable and Aggressive Adware Threatening Millions
Just noticed it seems to be some sort of tamagotchi clone from what I can see. the yellow/white meter could be growth and the icon to the right an egg. this (unrelated) app uses the same 'notebook' style of backdrop.

Sektor··on Ad Vulna: Vulnerable and Aggressive Adware Threatening Millions
Covering their own asses so the framework dev doesn't come after them is the only reason I could see.

The pixelization just reminds me of 'dodgy plumbers' on 'current affairs' shows or somesuch. I'm sure someone will recognize the pictured app eventually.

Sektor··on Ad Vulna: Vulnerable and Aggressive Adware Threatening Millions
