Seanambers··on SpaceX Super Heavy splashes down in the gulf, canceling chopsticks landing
Mars in two years if that goes well - Humans 2 years later, so humans on Mars before end of decade seems like a bet.

They are not that far behind the aspirational goals Elon laid out at IAC in 2016.

Then it was called ITS not the starship and steel was not yet thought about. https://youtu.be/WVacRKN1tAo?si=s0MBP8ejQt3zv-sF&t=3309

As you can see from the chart Mars flights from late 2022. But there was a pandemic amongst other things that came along etc.

Seanambers··on Maybe Bluesky has "won"
Well yeah, I should've stated Western Europe more with regards to the welfare state, - Central/Eastern Europe hasn't been that enthusiastic about MENA immigration and they don't have that level of social security nets.

Also even the illegal immigrants that come to the US is easier to integrate than the immigrants from MENA in Europe. Culturally they are much closer, even though there has been a influx of illegal immigrants from other places than Americas last couple of years.

This is a very deep difference in immigration in EU vs US that is quite foreign to many Americans.

Seanambers··on Maybe Bluesky has "won"
>The EU doesn't really do integration, it assumes everyone is a self-motivated tech worker who will do all the integration work themselves.

The EU consists of welfare states. Thus the incentive structure for an immigrant is totally different than in the US. Further more MENA immigration which is what Europe has most of is not the same kind of immigration that the US enjoys. The amount of state expenditure on facilitating and integrating immigrants in western Europe is insane.

Western Europe has bendt over backwards the last 50 years to accommodate people of cultures that have pretty much nothing in common with European culture, values and historically has been the enemy both culturally and religiously - the world did not start in 1945 as many on the left in Europe thinks.

This is the EU in a nutshell. You also have quite a few people defending this.

Seanambers··on Meta Movie Gen
As far as I know, most of the viral stuff has been active air defence CWIS and the like which can be hard to discern.

There's a morbid path from the grainy Iraq war and earlier shaky footage, through IS propaganda which at the time had basically the most intense combat footage ever released to the Ukraine war. Which took it to the morbid end conclusion of endless drone video deaths and edited clips 30+ mins long with day long engagements and defending.

And yes, to answer your belief that there is none - there is loads of "cinematic body cam footage out there now".

Ran into the same thing with Santander Bank in Poland. I have been online since the 90s never seen that password scheme ever anyplace else. It´s like who comes up with this insane shit.
Seanambers··on Cure for male pattern baldness given boost by sugar discovery
As someone who started to loose his hair in the mid 20s and thinning until I buzzed it in my mid 30s. I will say that being bald sucks especially considering meeting people, sexual attraction and possibly your own perception of yourself. Having said that I don't think about it at all normally, but I'm not gonna pretend it doesn't matter.

Loads of people take the 'high road' and say it doesn't matter but having hair is such an level up that its ridiculous. Maybe more now in a digital age with Snapchat, tiktok, youtube, tinder than before - looks have become way more important.

Here's an example of balding vs hair and there are loads of such examples on the web; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72wf4NLglOY

Seanambers··on The Rate of Return on Everything, 1870–2015 (2019)
Compared to Europe the US has an unimaginable amount of land. Europeans don't know this really - no one has told them, because they never went to the US, the ones who did went for some coastal city. On the other side Americans don't realize the reasons why Europeans live in cities. Europe is much much smaller and with less desirable land to begin with and then there is the entire "walkable cities" which is utopia reasoning...

God damn you US ppl dont know how good you got it.

When Win10 support winds down, I am unsure if I will even bother to continue to use it. MS has shit the bag so to speak with every version since Windows 7.
Seanambers··on A day in the life of a Walmart manager
There is a trap in there.

If you work a lot like this lady does you do not really have much time to reason about how you spend your life and whats important. It just happens to you. But it becomes all encompassing and consumes the person. For some thats the right way to live their life, for most not so much.

FANG has a problem in that they have a lot of highly paid individuals doing nothing or very little, so they have a lot of time to sit around and get depressed about it.

Seanambers··on EU Probes Apple's Decision to Shut Down Epic's Developer Account
There is such a thing as a private road. This is not about access. This is about money, and to think the EU - the geniuses who gave us all GDPR pop ups - don't have a intrinsic interest in devaluing Apples ecosystem is delusional.

Seanambers··on 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' author Robert Kiyosaki reveals he's $1B in debt
Rich Dad Poor Dad is a good book for beginners.

It introduces a lot of concepts, views and rules that most people have never encountered before. And packages this into a story which makes it easy to understand.

Judging from the comments in this thread nobody have either read the book or knows very little about investing/finance in general but of course they have strong opinions.

Nothing wrong with the book at all, and honestly I dont understand this endless bashing of the author.

Just checked Amazon it has a 4.7 star average with 94,163 ratings for a book that was self published in 1997.

Pretty Good I would say.

Seanambers··on Possible Meissner effect near room temperature: copper-substituted lead apatite
What you are describing is basically subsidies. Taiwan lowered the capital cost of TSMC thus made them more competitive than their competitors.

The Chinese did much of the same with their tech sector especially Huawei if I remember correctly with gigantic tax breaks and cheap financing.

Seanambers··on UK announces commercial operations of longest land/subsea interconnector
This shit has ruined the Norwegian electricity market and wrecked havoc on the prices. Norway has an insane amount of hydro which is cheap but the market price has gotten very expensive because of European idiocy and this common market the Europeans are working for.

F the entire thing.

Seanambers··on Hyperloop One to shut down
Elon Musk said from the outset that he was not gonna build it, he thought the idea was good and published a whitepaper on it which basically started the conversation.

He also talks about a supersonic electrical passenger jet from time to time, but he says he don't have the time to do that either.

Seanambers··on The 1988 shooting down of Flight 655 as a user interface disaster
Israel is a state established by UN resolution. If you really want to blame someone you can blame the British. The British incidentally also promised a Palestinian state to the Palestinians and it was provisioned in the resolution but the Palestinians rejected it.

However, if we really were to do this comparison. The Israelis have have been way to nice. The Palestinians have been on the loosing side of 4-5 wars - its unprecedented. To the victor goes the spoils, thats how it is in the real world.

If there is cause for a Palestinian state, then there is also cause for a Jewish state. Problem is the Palestinians rejects this notion and want the Jewish state gone.
