SchizoDuckie··on Ask HN: How do you handle feature requests from your users?
I have a subreddit[1] and the regular github[2] issue tracker. It works pretty well :)

Reddit has a much lower treshold for people to register themselves than 'big scary' github, leads more often to discussions with users and can be moderated by others from the team as well. Also, no spambots!

Brilliant platform imo :) The users usually come with a suggestion on Reddit, we discuss the pro's and con's right there, and if it's any good and will also benefit other users without introducing months and months of development work, we'll consider implementing the requested feature, create a Github ticket, and link to and from it from Github.

SchizoDuckie··on Carnival: An unobtrusive, developer-friendly way to add comments to any site
- Asks me to sign in with github or gmail before telling me what the project is about

- Paying money so that people can leave comments on my site?

- No screenshots or graphics showing what it looks like on landing page of https://carnivalapp.io/

- Oh, It's an app? It's just a script isn't it?

- You put the whole thing on Github, yet, you ask for a monthly fee?

- So, this is basically like gitter, but for any site?

SchizoDuckie··on Hoomi Delivers on Facebook Login’s Broken Promise
I'm going to be a bit blunt maybe, but this is my response to this 'yet another single sign on mechanism' post

- Who is Hoomi, and why should I trust them with credentials for other sites?

- Who is using this already, and why will users trust this? Any big names?

- How long will this project live? How is it funded?

- Do you know that your logo looks way too much like utorrent's, but upsidedown?

- Has this been battle-tested against hackers?

I'm sorry, but i'm not excited.

SchizoDuckie··on Unfunny April Fool's Joke from the Magic Lantern Developers
That's a fucked up move..
SchizoDuckie··on Ask HN: What would you call this?
how about a pair? Like in memory?
SchizoDuckie··on Appropriate Uses for SQLite
I'm using WebSQL / Sqlite to store TV show data on the user's system. works like a charm, databases regularly grow to 10+mb, never had a problem with crashes, speed or anything like it. Plus, everything runs locally <3

Now I really hope that Spartan can implement WebSQL as well...

SchizoDuckie··on Make This in an Hour
git push origin gh-pages

or he'll still no see anything :P

SchizoDuckie··on Passphrases You Can Memorize That Even the NSA Can’t Guess
So much this.

You can think of a great passwords scheme for yourself, and then find yourself in a pool of shit where hotmail asks you to have maximum 12 characters in a password, facebook requires you use a number, but it can be up to 40 characters, amazon wants you to use a special character like an @ or a # and but has a max length of 15 so on and so on.

Passwords. Suck. Use a password manager that autogenerates and autostores it like lastpass.

SchizoDuckie··on [dead]
If you need dynamic css like this you're doing something wrong on an architectural level, but that's just my $0.02.

You're breaking the nice cascading workflow in favour of a state-based system.

SchizoDuckie··on Ask HN: How do you manage your personal paper documents over the years?
Would you agree that the suck of filing would be significantly less if you could just snap a photo with your phone, push it to an application, and later just have to handle some details on the filing?
SchizoDuckie··on Ask HN: How do you manage your personal paper documents over the years?
I'm planning to support exactly that workflow.

Drop a bunch of PDFs on the program, queue them up for (later) processing, (auto)-tag, categorize and fulltext index them. I'd be so happy when that's done

SchizoDuckie··on Show HN: Edit native mobile apps live without installing an SDK
Wants an e-mail address before even showing me what's going on. No thanks.
SchizoDuckie··on Pimp my uTorrent: An angular.js app to remove the ads in uTorrent with 2 clicks
have you tried restarting utorrent? :)

Some of the changes don't appear unless you restart it.

SchizoDuckie··on Show HN: JustWatch – Choose your favorite streaming providers and see what’s new
'big hero 6' $19.99

Dream on K? thx. bye.

SchizoDuckie··on Atom now using Io.js
https://twitter.com/sublimehq Development will speed up in 2015. 2 releases in a week 'stable' enough for you?
SchizoDuckie··on Facebook just taught us all how to build websites
wow. that's a bold claim.

I'll throw away my 15 years of html and javascript experience now and put all my efforts into react.

SchizoDuckie··on DuckieTV – TV Show Tracker in angular.js and node-webkit with torrent integration
Cool, thanks! :)

There's a lot of cool javascript tech in the project. An angular.js implementation of Bittorrent's btapp.js amongst others. AMA!

SchizoDuckie··on Whatsapp Web
Indeed. Play Store says I have the latest version... anybody have a working apk?
SchizoDuckie··on The Holmes of Programming
Sherlock Holmes and the case of the runaway cpu cycles?
SchizoDuckie··on Native Socket.IO and Android
Wow.

I've just had a heated debate about this at work. I think it's pretty cool, my colleague thinks it's the worst idea ever.

Does this actually work in the real world? What if i'm moving?

SchizoDuckie··on Slow-motion video of raindrops reveals how rain gets its distinctive smell
That is so cool :) best smell in the world
SchizoDuckie··on Hex Invaders
Cool stuff :) Please disable text-selection on the page. playing with a trackpad is hard!
SchizoDuckie··on The problem with Angular
Exactly yhis is the point PPK is missing imo. A generic structure is offered by Angular, versus the mismatch of libraries, plugins, templating engines (all with their own bugs) that we had before.

I've built a lot of HTML5 over the years, and handing over projects that include your personal preferences and nifty things (even if it's 'Object Oriented' Mootools) can make another developer that has no prior knowledge of it decide to throw everything away and start from scratch.

At least angular provides a standardized and documented way of doing everything.

SchizoDuckie··on KeySweeper – Arduino-based passive wireless keyboard sniffer
This is very specifically for Microsoft keyboards. There's multiple bugs that are exploited (both in the $1 receiver chip he's using and the fact that all MS keyboards start with the same bit for their mac address) that make it very easy in that specific case.

Hold my beer while I perform a table flip and throw away all my Microsoft Wireless Keyboards

SchizoDuckie··on What does it take to run a web app with 5K – 10K users?
I run a free product without a revenue model as well. (DuckieTV, a chrome extension / node-webkit app, http://schizoduckie.github.io/DuckieTV )

I have zero costs though, since it's serverless and all hosted on Google and Github's infrastructure.

For privacy reasons I have made the deliberate choice to not include any log reporting tools or use any tracking services that could possibly make development a whole lot easier.

Thankfully I get some support from a couple of other people that mostly help with small dev tweaks and supporting users, finding out what goes wrong and providing excellent feedback.

I can really recommend setting up a subreddit so that people can help themselves and others, and you can provide some feedback where needed.

All in all the load of user support has been quite easily manageable, though now with Trakt.TV's debacle with the new API there is definite pressure to fix things.

SchizoDuckie··on TCKFC: TrueCrypt keyfile cracker
I just read the source. This is as much a cracker as Lizard Squad are hackers.

It's simply a script that tries truecrypt keyfiles with a provided password.

SchizoDuckie··on Curiosity wheel damage: The problem and solutions
This is the coolest thing i've read in a long time. What a world we live in, where we can send software updates to Mars to fix our robot.
SchizoDuckie··on “Warning: Do Not use my mirrors/services until I have reviewed the situation”
WTF?! Since when do we backdoor hardware in The Netherlands without informing the owner?
SchizoDuckie··on N reasons why the spooks love Tribler
Autsj.

Lesson learned (again): Don't do encryption if you don't know what you're doing.

SchizoDuckie··on First release of gngr web browser
- Focussed on privacy, how?

- So, it's a browser, got some screenshots? What's the ACID test score?

- What rendering engine does it run on?

- Privacy, but no https?

- It's an evolution of the Lobo project apparently?
