SchizoDuckie··on Cyberscript
This is by far the most stupid name for a new language imaginable. Shortening it to "cyber" on the landing page too..

When will devs learn that being able to search for a term on the open internet without having it polluted by normal language is kind of important

SchizoDuckie··on YouTube addresses lower view counts which seem to be caused by ad blockers
Only YouTube can tell, that's the fun part.
SchizoDuckie··on YouTube addresses lower view counts which seem to be caused by ad blockers
afairc sub-100 views are not counted in realtime anyway.
SchizoDuckie··on YouTube addresses lower view counts which seem to be caused by ad blockers
Go complain to Youtube, where the views should be measured on the backend instead of via an API call.

Does anyone realize how many missed views this implies??

SchizoDuckie··on Jules, our asynchronous coding agent
How is that any of my business? Well, I'm a software dev by trade and hobby, and I hack the planet on the side and advise multibillion $$$ companies on the security mistakes they make.

Even for the next 5 years I'd like to be able to have some capable humans in my teams.

SchizoDuckie··on Jules, our asynchronous coding agent
I can trust humans to do as I ask.
SchizoDuckie··on Jules, our asynchronous coding agent
As it stands right now, until there is some radically new way that doesn't hallucinate implementations, is grounded in security rules and actually understands what it's doing in the larger context of the system it's working in I am not really worried about my job.

I stopped worrying about what techbro's think a long time ago. I saw one slinging a blockchain ai nft filesystem that will ingest and organize your documents for you on twitter yesterday.

SchizoDuckie··on Jules, our asynchronous coding agent
Great. So Junior devs will be useless now. Now how are we going to train more senior devs that know what they're doing?
SchizoDuckie··on Jules, our asynchronous coding agent
Who in their right mind hands off tasks to one of these for their day job? They can never be trusted.
SchizoDuckie··on Ms's new video editor transcodes video by sending every frame to sharepoint
I'm sorry. What backend? I'm trying to slice a video on my local machine. Something that was a 30 second job for something like this in the previous Windows Movie Maker that they yanked from the Microsoft Store and replaced with "the new and improved" ClipChamp, which is horribly slow, and I just found out why.

How is sharepoint involved in any of this? Why is it not transcoding locally? What if i throw it a 4k video?

SchizoDuckie··on Is Aschenbrenner's 165 page paper on AI the naivety of a 25 year old?
I love how the author of this article makes no intent to give even a start on why he thinks the author of the paper is naive or even describe what the paper is about and give an abstract.
SchizoDuckie··on A useful front-end confetti animation library
I use this on unicornpoep.nl, a little multiple choice toy i built for my daughter to teach her multiplication tables.

This library is an awesome chromebook killer. I need to find something more optimized. But it does the trick!

SchizoDuckie··on Bitcoin is dead, but it was a good try
Thankfully bitcoin is less susceptible to the FED printing press and more to the whims of what someone like Musk is doing on the social media platform he just bought. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Your argument makes no sense.

SchizoDuckie··on MuseScore/Audacity employee theatening to destroy a Chinese developer's life
Ever heard of the term "veiled threat"?
SchizoDuckie··on Why SpaceX Wants to Make Landing Super Heavy More Difficult
I cannot wait to see them iterate on testing this. That's gonna be some epic footage
SchizoDuckie··on [dead]
You ruined your own life by buying a macbook. Don't blame apple.
SchizoDuckie··on Try to not play with these sliders
This is a falsehood i've seen repeated over and over.

CDN's fail. You already have a connection to the 'stuff.com' self-hosted js. If your site is up but the cdn breaks you have another problem.

Also the perf win for using a shared cdn version of for instance jquery is totally overstated. See discussions here too: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11549131

SchizoDuckie··on Ask HN: Do you have a Privacy Policy and ToS for your side projects?
Yes. Explicitly.

Not worded as a lawyer, but as an actual sane person:

(Since the project is free and open source and deals with torrents, I wanted to make it clear from the beginning that we're not logging anything)

SchizoDuckie··on The CIA's “Development Tradecraft Do's and Dont's”
Isn't it great? Now every low level malware author in the world will start to follow adhere these tips, and the US has once again shot themselves massively in the foot, and fucked over the whole world in the process...

Thanks CIA

SchizoDuckie··on People Keep Finding Coins in Their MacBooks and Nobody Knows Why
So a device produced overseas has currency inside it of the person that buys it.

I'm call clickbait BS.

SchizoDuckie··on Elon Musk Receives Product Suggestion on Twitter, Implements It 6 Days Later
I was hoping for a more 2016 solution than "we'll charge you" like just driving the cars out of the spot if it's up there for any longer.

that would be impressive.

SchizoDuckie··on What do you think of Indian Government's decision to demonetize 500, 1000 notes?
Remember. This is india. They can produce 200.000 hot lunches and daily deliver them to the doorsteps of the workers by train and bicycle in rush hour.
SchizoDuckie··on What do you think of Indian Government's decision to demonetize 500, 1000 notes?
I think it's brilliant.

Re-register your money NOW (or within 50 days) or it's worthless.

It's probably one of the most ballsy brilliant plans in any modern economy pulled off.

The short turnover term makes sure that you can't really transform that money into gold or bitcoin or whatever, because who the hell is going to take the fall

SchizoDuckie··on FlyWeb – An API for web pages to host local web servers
Oh great. yet another way for ad services and botnets to talk to eachother...

Because yeah, that's where this is going to be used first and foremost.

Most people are not intelligent enough to understand how to secure their internet banking, and now we're going to bake-in hosting tcp connectable servers?

These security prompts better have some real clear language and require giving permissions every time.

Now I can see some good things for this too, start a flyweb from your desktop and easily transfer some stuff from your phone for instance (something that still sucks in 2016)

I just think that most of it's use will be malicious.

SchizoDuckie··on LinkedIn accesses Gmail contacts via ‘auto-authorization’
So how do they technically do this? If there's an open browser window they shouldn't be able to access it. That's an xss exploit. This is not authorization, this is stealing leaked info.
SchizoDuckie··on How Dropbox hacks your mac
tl;dr: When dropbox asks for your admin password it stores it in it's own cache to keep having access and perform admin-level tasks.

It's not a hack, it's you giving away your credentials on a screen that's designed to look like a system password prompt.

A Dark UI pattern at most, and a security leak whenever someone hacks the dropbox auth storage. Not a hack, just clickbait.

SchizoDuckie··on Adobe U-Turns, Decides to Support Flash for Linux
HAHA

Sorry, we don't want it.

SchizoDuckie··on Show HN: Ulterius, complete control of your desktop – from your browser
Freaking great work man. Now get me mah linux binary so I can make you that chrome extension!
SchizoDuckie··on Ask HN: Examples of reliable software you enjoy using
I have no thoughts on DOpus other than: it looks horrible GUI-wise
SchizoDuckie··on Ask HN: Examples of reliable software you enjoy using
I guess it only becomes a real power tool if you learn to navigate and harness the power of the 2 side-by-side panels by keyboard.

Long story short, let me sum up some of my favorite features:

    - Tab to switch between panels
    - Navigate with arrow keys through the files list
(very handy if you have it on 'brief' view, especially since you can walk
through whole directories with left/right arrow until you hit the '..')
    - CTRL + F1/ CTRL+F2 to select drive for the left or right panel
    - Using any type of packer (zip,arj,7z, etc) as a directory by just hitting
enter on it to see the files inside, view them, extract, add and remove
    - CTRL + Pagedown to navigate even into some packaged files that aren't
normally accessible as folders (like .msi)
    - F-Keys with a clear indicator at the bottom to move and copy files, insert
to select and move to the next file
    - F3 for an all you can eat file viewer that can switch to different view modes
like HEX by pressing 1,2,3,4 and doesn't bork on large files
    - F4 launches your favorite editor
    - Hit space on a directory to compute the full size recursively
    - ALT+F7 for find-in-files and fast file search
    - The most powerful multi-rename tool you could ever wish for in the file menu
    - Built-In FTP Client (CTRL + F) with a favorite list, queue list
      and resume from queue list.
    - Download any random file (with resume and queue) using CTRL+N (HTTP/FTP)
    - Plugin support to enhance the thing with stuff like SFTP/FTPS support,
which you can open from the 'network' drive
    - Background copy for most operations (in it's own thread, and with pause)
    - Double click the file path at the top of the panel for a popup hotlist where
you can add favorite jump-to spots
    - CTRL + Arrow key opposite to the current panel opens the folder under the
      cursor in the opposite panel
    - CTRL + UP arrow on a folder opens it in a new tab (which you can even lock to
persist them or have handy nav points)
    - Numpad + to select files in a folder according to a wildcard
    - Numpad * inverts currrent selection or selects all
    - Pack some files using CTRL + F5 on a selection
There's just so much goodness that this list could go on and on for way too long. Double Commander comes close on Linux, but there's no thing like TotalCMD for me when i'm on Windows.
