Invest in nukes especially if you're a resource rich country.

Some examples would be much appreciated.
SanjayMehta··on How Delhi cut electricity loss from 50 to 5 percent
The BJP is marginally less socialist than the Congress. On the positive side, they are definitely less corrupt than the Congress.
SanjayMehta··on US Revokes Limits on Power Plants' Climate Pollution
Let the self proclaimed leader of the free world lead by example.
SanjayMehta··on US Revokes Limits on Power Plants' Climate Pollution
India increased renewables drastically in the last 10-12 years.

SanjayMehta··on US Revokes Limits on Power Plants' Climate Pollution
The US could help itself by reducing per capita energy consumption.

Since they don't seem to consider this as an option, why indeed should China or India do anything?

SanjayMehta··on Inside the AI "Kill Chain" That Destroyed an Iranian School
USAian war crimes are "targeting errors."

Beats "collateral damage."

SanjayMehta··on Warren Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Chairman, Names Son to Replace Him
"It's not nepotism when I (or Soros) do it."
SanjayMehta··on US interest rates raised for first time in three years
The damage Iran did to the various US bases around the gulf is now visible to everyone, I just saw the images on CBS.
SanjayMehta··on U.S. in Highest-Risk Category for Civil War, Coup, or Collapse in CIA Model
CIA? Various US military agencies? OSF? Humanitarian?
SanjayMehta··on U.S. in Highest-Risk Category for Civil War, Coup, or Collapse in CIA Model
Never having heard of this metric, I went to look at the sponsors and inventors: Fund for Peace.

OSF, CIA, USAID, and US defence agencies of various flavours. Very reassuring to see these stalwarts of democracy funding such a noble metric.

SanjayMehta··on I resigned from Anthropic today
Slashdot had Profit as (4), today that's item (2.5)
SanjayMehta··on Leaving VMware just got harder after Broadcom pulled VDDK downloads

SanjayMehta··on Leaving VMware just got harder after Broadcom pulled VDDK downloads
Avago's business model, not the original Broadcom's
SanjayMehta··on Leaving VMware just got harder after Broadcom pulled VDDK downloads
As a user of VMware Desktop who switched to VirtualBox, my experience was VMware was just so much easier to use.

I now use UTM to host Windows 11 Pro on my mac for exactly one Windows application.

With the exception of suspend, it does the job.

SanjayMehta··on Leaving VMware just got harder after Broadcom pulled VDDK downloads
You need to remember this isn't Broadcom the chip company at work, this is really Avago which took on the Broadcom name when they acquired the latter.

Avago's business model is to acquire cash cow businesses and then milk them dry. These VMware changes are consistent with that model.

SanjayMehta··on Why did Microsoft acquire LinkedIn?
Right now LinkedIn is locking out users and asking them to submit to a video id check, along with a copy of their driving licenses. The beneficiary is a company called Persona. I would not be surprised if the latter is also a microsoft entity, and is benefiting from that data.

They locked me out when I changed my profile picture, and started deleting posts and comments prior to deleting the account itself.

SanjayMehta··on 1Password Replied to My Disappointment
> perpetuates far-right conspiracies / racist tropes like "Pakistani rape gangs."

Hardly a conspiracy theory or a racist trope if it's true.

SanjayMehta··on Laurie Anderson’s next manuscript to be locked away for 88 years
Bauhaus is about all I can stand as art.

The issue which I have with this is the sheer waste of resources because some rich person wants to be relevant decades after their death.

What happened to founding a hospital? Or something useful in the here and now and in the future. Not a big fan of Nobel either, BTW.

SanjayMehta··on 1Password Replied to My Disappointment
I switched to bitwarden a couple of years ago when 1password locked down on their subscription model. I don't do subscriptions, I prefer paying for upgrades which I need.

Importing was truly super easy, but bitwarden has some kind of latency issue compared to 1p on the same machine and the same browser. 1p was always a smooth and unobtrusive experience, you will be extremely aware of BW's presence.

SanjayMehta··on Dutch central bank moves 86 tonnes of gold from US citing 'geopolitical unrest'
I think it's an oblique threat. Just recently Trump made a direct threat on the bond markets.

SanjayMehta··on Dutch central bank moves 86 tonnes of gold from US citing 'geopolitical unrest'
GDP is just a number in a spreadsheet. This is a physical asset.
SanjayMehta··on Laurie Anderson’s next manuscript to be locked away for 88 years
Those two words are all that are required to describe this "news."

SanjayMehta··on Hang on to Your Firefox
I stopped using Firefox when they forced out Eich over his personal views.
SanjayMehta··on Mark Zuckerberg's Social Reckoning
The journalists were most likely told to spin it this way so that meta can put on a sad face in public.

Everything is for sale and meta has the money.

SanjayMehta··on Brits would quite like their private messages to stay private
I knew it would be YM or YPM, both documentaries in the form of comedic fiction.
SanjayMehta··on Does Computer Science Need Computers?
Do chefs need kitchens?
SanjayMehta··on The journalist facing an $800 daily fine to keep her sources secret
Fox News is over the top in their presentation. The real propaganda outfits write in a sober tone, quote "sources in the know" without naming names.

At this point every outfit is suspect: especially the original Upright Citizens(tm).

SanjayMehta··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
> He has just become a packaging waste producer in four countries.

This is the part which is confusing. If the EU was a real union, then this would not be a problem, the selling point would be it's a union, all countries are the same.

It appears from the outside that the only united thing about the regulation is that there is a regulation, and then each country goes off and does its own thing.

So why have an EU at all? Very strange.
