SV_BubbleTime··on Memory prices climb 500% in 12 months
128GB 3600Mhz… $600 just last week.
SV_BubbleTime··on Memory prices climb 500% in 12 months
I don’t think there were some grand conspiracy to buy up the world’s ram to keep other people out, it is probably more likely that they just really thought they would need it.

However, I do feel like this is the type of conspiracy that unfiltered Claude would come up with.

SV_BubbleTime··on Memory prices climb 500% in 12 months
What else do you know about the inner workings of the current administration… and seriously reflect on why your answer isn’t “lol what? Absolutely nothing!”
SV_BubbleTime··on Memory prices climb 500% in 12 months
I just laid an arm and a leg for 128GB of DDR4. More than I normally would have ever spent, because the alternatives were far worse.

Life on earth today has objectively never been better in the history of our entire species. Try to retain some perspective.

Where polymarket at?
SV_BubbleTime··on AI-Generated GitHub Copilot “Autofix” Allowed Compromise of Snowflake's Jira
I mean… it’s only Monday!

But yes, there is an interesting change in the past decade, where everything new must be over-hyped.

Perhaps it is attention overload and needing to shout. Perhaps it’s that technological progress has significantly slowed while communication options have exploded (coincidence?).

I look at it a lot like EVs. They’re great, if your use case is inside the specific band. But, that isn’t who they were being marketed to. And now… “pushback” is putting it lightly.

Is it? Because you can just download a car now.

The moat is money. How do you get more money? Point to your moat and ask for more money!
SV_BubbleTime··on Chestnut – eGPU dock with open-source firmware
None of those busses are encrypted (at least not the majority I am familiar with). The security gateway is just a firewall.
SV_BubbleTime··on Count Binface receives over a quarter of votes in Clacton by-election
It appears to be a high percentage of one though.

Like it gets moved to in the urinal itself? Indeed, that could kick off a world war.

Tracks.

The position seems to be faith based, so I understand why you are uncomfortable with its shape.

To be fair… I don’t know who still needs to figure out that AI benchmarks are almost all entirely fucking trash, but the great number would surely surprise me.
SV_BubbleTime··on uBlock Origin Is Giving Up the Fight to Keep Ads Off Facebook
I love how Facebook has one reputation, an Instagram has another and they often don’t match at all even though we all know it’s the exact fucking service with a different skin and theme.
SV_BubbleTime··on Automatic1111 for Apple metal, 40% speed up sd1.5
A1111 also had its time. Comfy takes a couple hours to learn, and then it’s vastly superior. Like, if you are already on Mac there is no reason to also kick yourself in the face trying to go back to 1111.
SV_BubbleTime··on H3-metal – Native MiniMax-H3 inference for Apple Silicon
This is good advice if you have nvidia, but for Mac does not apply currently.
SV_BubbleTime··on Amazon backs power plant that may become top source of US climate pollution
Hang tight because after them, the guys that paid top dollar for their EVs and need to tell you how not it’s not anxiety; but that they really enjoy watching and mentally considering the charge and rate of depletion everywhere they go all the time.
SV_BubbleTime··on Mars Bar from 1991 found – and it's 20g bigger than today's
Well… for one, your competitors would have an instant marketable advantage over you.

What “the market will bear” isn’t what you think it is. Mars and Hersey and … idk is there another candy company?… don’t meet in a smoke filled room figuring how best to make you poor and fat. “What the market will bear” in a free market much more means what you can offer as a value before you introduce a opportunity more competition or an alternative to your product.

If your industry does meet in a smoke filled room, that is neither capitalism nor a free market.

I suggest everyone read Sowell’s Basic Economics at least once as an adult.

> Typically no solder paste is used, just flux.

Ah, so reflow the solder on the package ends then? And I assume they have a fancy precision process for “tinning” the ends?

Sorry, best I can do are a bunch of activist hippies.
SV_BubbleTime··on Illinois just passed a law that puts Linux on the hook for age verification
Everyone else is arguing slippery slope.

I don’t even get that far, the proper response to my operating system asking me if I’m a minor or not is: fuck you. It isn’t a harmless question. We aren’t friends, I don’t want an algorithm of news and content, it’s an OS.

SV_BubbleTime··on Mark Zuckerberg attacks 'closed' AI rivals as Meta returns to open models
It’s obvious? They still hate us and hope we die… at least every movement they make seems like that.

I kid. I’m all for meta releasing more open weight models.

I mean… I’m also 1000% certain that China is going to undercut whatever they can do if even not a technology reason but a legal reason. I’ve seen some wild stuff posted that has been made with Minimax… things a US company could never allow to happen.

SV_BubbleTime··on Saying No
Oh. Mixed feelings on this. Good quote, and etc. but there is something about this I can’t resonate with. The… “ask permission”ness of it all.
SV_BubbleTime··on Windows 11's built-in Weather app wastes more than 1 GB of RAM
Had to get a ride to drive floppies with corrected config.sys and autoexec.bat files around to friends.

Things weren’t actually worse.

SV_BubbleTime··on Windows 11's built-in Weather app wastes more than 1 GB of RAM
Do all visual aspects of a weather app need to be loaded at once? Is the cost penalty loading a hundred kilobytes per image from disk really unacceptable?
SV_BubbleTime··on Meta Ran Ads That Contained AI-Generated Child Sexual Abuse Imagery
Read the article. Between the lines it doesn’t seem like the real issue is any specific image, it’s the ”nudify” AI apps.

This is why they pushed for the change from “child porn” to “child sexual assault material” because LOTS OF THINGS can be “materials”.

SV_BubbleTime··on Read the novels and forget everything else
> If you simply refuse to hear a single piece of evidence of, say, Michael Jackson’s pedophilia

Interesting example. There is more credible evidence of parents of “his child friends” being in it for a cash grab than actual wrong doing.

Evidence was your bar there.

I do work animations for fun and internal use only (mostly jokes). I MAY reach out to them.
