RoryH··on Pixel 11 Pro Fold feels like the end of an era
There were suggestions that they went this way as the intel suggested Apple might release one soon with a similar form factor.
RoryH··on OnePlus halts operations in USA and Europe
LOL, I wondered why their EU store had basically no stock and remaining items (which I may have snagged only yesterday!) were listed at firesale prices.
RoryH··on Vivaldi 8.0
Yes I agree, there was a time where it was worse and FF just did not have the same support coverage for Browser APIs etc, but now if I encounter a problem in FF I tend toward blaming the website developer for ensuring it works ok.
RoryH··on /e/OS is a complete, fully “deGoogled” mobile ecosystem
Hmmm, It seems to require the WebUSB API: https://caniuse.com/?search=webusb
RoryH··on Realtime BART Arrival Display
Thank you for the inspiration from your nice and simple real-time API. I made a pass a few years ago on digesting similar GTFS data and you've made me realise how much simpler it could be! :-)
RoryH··on Helium Browser
It was also a time before Google demoted "Don't be evil." from their company literature.
RoryH··on Infinite Pixels
This article triggered flashbacks to 20 years ago and using all sorts of crazy CSS to hack the browser to do what you needed it to. Nowadays CSS is (usually) a remarkable land of sanity in comparison.
RoryH··on Food fermentation in space: Opportunities and challenges
Mmmmm, space Kimchi!
RoryH··on Teslas monitor everything – including you [video] from WIRED
Possibly the point is that an individual can not be as easily tracked by first identifying the bus, however most cars are registered to their owners. Nowadays most buses and public transport are full of CCTV though so same problem really.
RoryH··on Tesla sales in Germany dropped 41% in 2024
It's multiple factors I believe, aside from this one here's some more:

- German EV government subsidies were reduced considerably (possibly removed?) in Dec 2023

- Other manufacturers are catching up to Tesla in many areas.

They do have the option to just pick and [choose from a variety of libraries](https://deepkit.io/library). I like the look of @deepkit/type
RoryH··on E Ink Gallery 3
Yes! This is the perfect use case for Photo frames, or even for advertising billboards where there's no need to have humans change the advert.
RoryH··on Tesla fired an employee after he posted driverless tech reviews on YouTube
They are also in the process of releasing the Megane model as EV only model going forward, and the reviews so far are very encouraging.

I personally think this product looks awesome, maybe partly nostalgia.
RoryH··on Moving your SSH port isn’t security by obscurity
It's not more secure, but it certainly does help prevent unwanted bots spamming your SSH daemon.
RoryH··on Show HN: FontEdit – A desktop app to develop fonts for embedded systems displays
I too remember this.. back in school we used to create fonts with messed up characters (backwards/upside-down/invisible) and load them into the autoexec.bat ... Confused a lot of people.
RoryH··on The History of Development of Norton Commander (2010)
Came here to basically say this :-)
RoryH··on No to Chrome
As a web dev, I find the FF dev tools a good bit less performant, but I still try to use it always without reverting to Chrome.. The one feature I have not found in FF dev tools is Search, this is very handy for find random JavaScript on a JS heavy site.

Edit: This post prompted me to Google for it: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Debugger/How_...

Move along, nothing to see.. :-\

RoryH··on America is turning against facial-recognition software

RoryH··on Malicious remote code execution backdoor discovered bootstrap-sass Ruby gem
Anyone maintaining a library with a large audience of consumers should be mandated to use 2FA/MFA, I can only assume from the information here that they only had a set of credentials for authing :-(
RoryH··on How Does React Tell a Class from a Function?
Indeed, also checkout the React.PureComponent for another example of an in-between Class and Function optimisation.
