RockRobotRock··on Donald Trump Hit with 26 Articles of Impeachment
Nothing ever happens.
RockRobotRock··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
I honestly don't see how those two things are related.
RockRobotRock··on WaveDigger: Dig into wireless signals to discover their physical locations
They can always add some obfuscation/hardware attestation bullshit to make it harder to scrape.
RockRobotRock··on Telstra outage: The night a network decided the year was 2006
Shout out to the Jeff Geerling video about this
RockRobotRock··on Keys Not Included: recovering the signing keys for US driver's license barcodes
I had a fake ID, and it being scannable was a huge selling point. Convenience stores all scan, and don't seem to care if you look underage. I was only turned down two or three times, usually at bars and restaurants.
RockRobotRock··on Child Sexual Abuse Material Persists on X
I said that I ran a company that could benefit from having access to that list, and could benefit NCMEC by reporting when we stumbled upon content which shows up in the list. (It's content scanning software for the adult film industry)
RockRobotRock··on Starlink Signal Leakage Threatens Radio Astronomy's Most Critical Frequencies
Google "Ukraine war Starlink". Neolibs who hate Musk's companies unconditionally are going to go quiet real fucking fast, I bet.
RockRobotRock··on Starlink Signal Leakage Threatens Radio Astronomy's Most Critical Frequencies
Is that because everyone you know lives in a high-wealth country/area?
RockRobotRock··on Starlink Signal Leakage Threatens Radio Astronomy's Most Critical Frequencies
okay for real, i think you have elon derangement syndrome.
RockRobotRock··on Starlink Signal Leakage Threatens Radio Astronomy's Most Critical Frequencies
Precise motives? I don’t know, I don’t think I have any. I don’t use starlink myself or have a Tesla or invest in any of his companies. Feels silly to disclaim that, but there you go.

Having used starlink before on a plane and on land, it’s fast and seems far superior to previous generations of satellite internet. I’m earnestly asking if creating problems for astronomers is outweighed by giving more people access to the internet. Not just giving them “access”, but giving them very fast and low latency access.

RockRobotRock··on Starlink Signal Leakage Threatens Radio Astronomy's Most Critical Frequencies
I’m a human that just so happens to disagree with you. I don’t like Elon either, but what I dislike more is that it’s impossible to talk about any of his companies without people like you assuming my motives.
RockRobotRock··on Starlink Signal Leakage Threatens Radio Astronomy's Most Critical Frequencies
maybe Internet for people on earth matters more than astronomy
RockRobotRock··on Child Sexual Abuse Material Persists on X
I just got access to the NCMEC's hashlists for my startup. It was fairly easy.
RockRobotRock··on IceCream – Never use print() to debug again
>Do you ever use print() or log() to debug your code?

I haven't written my own code in months at this point...kind of depressing to think about

RockRobotRock··on Ask HN: Are you still using a Vision Pro?
I'm not sleeping on it, I know how good it is. It costs $3500.
RockRobotRock··on Claude Code's source code has been leaked via a map file in their NPM registry
>There's no magical human verification technology coming to save us.

Except for the one Sam Altman is building.

RockRobotRock··on Running Tesla Model 3's computer on my desk using parts from crashed cars
I think it was pretty clear I was talking about the United States.
RockRobotRock··on Running Tesla Model 3's computer on my desk using parts from crashed cars
Four 9/11s worth of people die every year from drunk driving. If we can't even get that under control, I don't see why being able to modify your own car is a big deal.
RockRobotRock··on Lenovo’s new ThinkPads score 10/10 for repairability
>A hard to describe sense of "cheesiness"

This is the "Reddit" factor. I picked up on it being LLM written with this sentence:

"This is the treacherous, final-boss stage where repairability usually dies,"

RockRobotRock··on Bcachefs creator insists his custom LLM is female and 'fully conscious'
This is sad. It appears to me to be psychosis. It's really telling in their reddit comment where they use words like raising an AI and anthropomorphizing his openclaw that he's got an unhealthy attachment. Not trying to play armchair psychologist here, but if you've ever been around someone going through a mental episode there's nothing funny about this.
RockRobotRock··on Never buy a .online domain
That's like a business being dissolved because it got a bad rating from BBB. Absolutely insane.
RockRobotRock··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
suspiciously defensive??? you got me. Or maybe I just didn't understand their comment.
RockRobotRock··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
Oh, that's silly. I don't own a Tesla. I just wanna talk about LIDAR without people ragebaiting about Elon.
RockRobotRock··on The Age Verification Trap: Verifying age undermines everyone's data protection
(Disclaimer: American perspective)

Why don't we have PKI built in to our birth certificates and drivers licenses? Why hasn't a group of engineers and experts formed a consortium to try and solve this problem in the least draconian and most privacy friendly way possible?

RockRobotRock··on The Age Verification Trap: Verifying age undermines everyone's data protection
Here is an example of the problem with inference-based verification:

RockRobotRock··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
I don't know what that means
RockRobotRock··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
Can hatred of Musk not derail this entire thread please? I have a camera-only ADAS that I think works quite well, but having both would be better.
RockRobotRock··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
>Waymo benefits from Google's unparalleled geospatial data.

That's true, and they have a huge headstart, but I wonder if all these cubesat companies can bring the price down on data enough that others will be able to compete.

RockRobotRock··on Postgres Is Your Friend. ORM Is Not
I sure loved delving into this blog post.
RockRobotRock··on BarraCUDA Open-source CUDA compiler targeting AMD GPUs
My mistake, sorry. HN has me feeling extra paranoid lately.
