RicoElectrico··on ESP32-C3 Adblock
You mean chip antenna (one that looks like a big SMD resistor)? Yes, they're garbage. But this is orthogonal to the chip itself.

Also, PCB antennas are reasonably good for most indoor situations.

RicoElectrico··on Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family
Interesting they ignored the micro-reader trend that XTEINK started.
RicoElectrico··on Redditor buys used CPU, turns out it was banned on Valorant and they are SoL
When tryhards flocked to ranked games; more broadly in the world with no opportunity for the young people e-sports emerged and they saw it as one.
RicoElectrico··on Grok is obsessed with our docs. Just not the parts we built for it
Another example of uselessness of llms.txt.

Repo timestamp expected blah blah... toast coming out of nowhere is such a bad design. Really, the architecture in which you absolutely have to download the multi-MB index is as well.
RicoElectrico··on Socialism's Positive Rating Tops 40% for First Time
The diverging life expectancy says otherwise. The point is, in other countries where far-right fucks up in a way that materially affects their voter base, it gets voted out in no time. But somehow, in USA, that's not the case.
RicoElectrico··on Socialism's Positive Rating Tops 40% for First Time
USA is approximately the only developed country in which people consistently vote against their interest.

For what it's worth, apart from the migrant scare, PiS, the far-right friends of Trump, made a comeback in Poland in 2016 by promising and delivering 500+ which was an unconditional payout for parents.

And what Trump did give Americans? Half-assed tariffs which destroyed many businesses and individuals, and which were overturned anyway. Destruction of many jobs in the federal sector. Expensive fuel. And so on.

RicoElectrico··on AMD's random number generator can't generate a 0?
Me too. Hardware bugs that arise out of unanticipated module interactions are understandable. But this is a "you had one job" moment.

RicoElectrico··on The Google Play app review process now regularly takes longer than a week
Same happened for CoMaps (which unfortunately does not have 12+ years of presence going for it)
RicoElectrico··on Let's make quality the norm again
There's an interesting paper about expectations of quality:

Google Search Console can give you those.
RicoElectrico··on Balrogg: Demonically compacting (up to 15%) lossless Vorbis/Opus recompressor
There is a long history of compressors that replace the entropy coding layer of a codec with something else entirely. This is exactly it.

RicoElectrico··on Tgrep: Trigram-Indexed Grep
Weird that the prior art of https://github.com/sc0ty/grip was not mentioned.
RicoElectrico··on BlackRock CEO said Americans' savings and investments will fund data centers

RicoElectrico··on VC isn't VC anymore
Likewise, stock market IPOs are a parody now - not means of getting financing, but dumping the paper on the retail after for the insiders and VCs to realize their gains.
RicoElectrico··on The Overton Window of Food
> But there isn’t enough outcry to remove the caffeine, which is only mildly addictive.

In Poland both Coca-Cola and recently Pepsi are available (even if not everywhere) in a caffeine-free option. I'm not aware of anyone pressuring them to do this, presumably this is what their market research told them, though.

RicoElectrico··on 'A Bible-sized blind spot': alarm on rising Christian nationalism
Black rights really spooked republicans and they went for a long game, establishing own media and think tanks.
RicoElectrico··on Apple Maps Ads Are Here, and There's No Way to Turn Them Off
No, because in maps category, people demand no inconveniences or compromises at all. Often the same people, who put up with Linux distros' shenanigans, curiously.
RicoElectrico··on Putting mice into hibernation causes a major loss of synapses
So, Wheatley was right about a "very minor case of serious brain damage"? :)
RicoElectrico··on Xiaomi: New CPU matches Apple cores single threaded, much faster multithreaded
> But it’s sorta like, let’s throw everything against the wall and get the biggest number we can.

From what I recall reading, the impressive performance of Apple mobile CPUs is partly attributable to throwing more silicon area at the problem while not being as cost sensitive (no need to share margin with SoC vendor)

RicoElectrico··on Protesters haul a guillotine to city council meeting about an AI data center
Not even close. While water usage and ambient temperature rise might be overblown, noise pollution and electrical grid strain are very much real.
RicoElectrico··on A spectre is haunting Unicode
The Han unification probably was about fitting CJK into the 16 bits aka BMP. It was a blunder indeed.
RicoElectrico··on Medical data of 19M Poles stolen in major breach
The article is poorly worded. MyDr aka znanylekarz.pl is not mandated officially. It's what private practices use for appointments and medical records. What public hospitals mostly use is an on-prem version of GCM Clininet.

There is however a national system called P1 and in 2020 there was a scandal about the Gemini chain of pharmacies accessing records illegally.

RicoElectrico··on (ADVANCED) Guide to not fucking up QR codes
Weird nothing was mentioned about bastardizing the finder patterns.
RicoElectrico··on More than 10 firms pay up to $100k a month for access to Truth Social posts
Same in Poland, sadly. Conservatives or rather "conservatives" can get away with way more...
RicoElectrico··on Can you reverse engineer an ASIC?
Thank you for taking your time to squash another potential "urban legend" in the making. We've got enough of them already in tech.
RicoElectrico··on Why a Raspberry Pi shouldn't be powered through its GPIO pins
Wait a sec. Apart from the fuse, those protective elements are all in parallel with the 5V rail and they would work as intended. The drawing order is irrelevant.
