RickSanchez2600··on Making a Game Boy Game in 2017
There was Deluxe Paint for DOS also, many games got created with it.
RickSanchez2600··on Atari 800 vs. Commodore 64 – The Brief Tale of Two 8-Bit Home Computers
I had a Commodore 64 because the Atari 2600 promised a keyboard option to turn it into a computer. It never came to market. So I switched to Commodore who had a video game console with a keyboard and BASIC.

The Atari 800 was nice I heard, but there was a war between Commodore and Atari users on the BBSES.

The Atari 800 had more colors than the Commodore 64, but the SID chip on the Commodore 64 had better sounds, which attracted musicians to it.

Oddly enough management of Atari and Commodore switched and the Atari ST was the successor of the Commodore 64, but I had the Commodore Amiga 1000 that was designed by Jay Miner and other Atari engineers.

RickSanchez2600··on Apple removes game after Chinese company cloned, trademarked, requested takedown
China does not respect US trademarks, but the US respects Chinese trademarks? Someone explain it to me like I was 5, please?
RickSanchez2600··on Technical Debt
Code is a liability it can be hacked if not written securely. It can be out of date if the language changes or Windows changes and the company upgrades, which means parts of it need to be rewritten.

I used to program COBOL on IBM 370 DOS/VSE systems they later went to Visual BASIC on Window 3.1 PCs. The conversion took a long time and most code had to be rewritten because COBOL is not BASIC. Management didn't care about that, they just wanted a working project. We all did our best going overtime without pay and working weekends to meet deadlines.

COBOL was a liability when they wanted to convert to Visual BASIC. There was liability to convert the code, convert from DB2 to SQL Server on the database end.

RickSanchez2600··on The new kilogram just debuted
So does this change the weight of a kilogram and all scales need to be updated? Or is it just set by physics and math and no cylinder of metal?
RickSanchez2600··on Ready-to-install Python shipped in Windows 10 May 2019 update
Python has become this generation's BASIC. OLD MS-DOS had GWBASIC and QBASIC now Windows 10 has Python.
RickSanchez2600··on Three geeks rescue a 50-year-old IBM 360 mainframe from an abandoned building
I hope they have the DOS/VSE or whatever operating system that ran on them on backup or installed on the hard drive.

I remember 360's had a level you pulled called the IPL button. Initial Program Load.

RickSanchez2600··on Google Antitrust Complaint Threatens Plan for Auto Dashboard Dominance
What happens to the car when the computerized dashboard crashes or fails an update leaving it in a crashed state?
RickSanchez2600··on Microbots Are on Their Way
It is still only a playground for the rich and wealthy. The Space industry needs to become like the Airline industry in minimizing the accidents and making it safe and cheap enough for the average person to afford.

There are people who want to go into space to be like Captain Kirk or some other scifi character. Some of them are rich or wealthy and can afford the $100K a week on the Moon.

Thing is a moon-base has to avoid meteorite strikes and other hazards. If the water or oxygen gets contaminated that's it for everyone.

RickSanchez2600··on Windows 10’s big May 2019 Update is blocked on PCS using USB storage
I like the GNU/Linux APT update better than Windows Update.

I'd like to use Linux for all my work, but some software is Windows only.

RickSanchez2600··on Project VGA – Home of the Low Budget, Open Source, VGA Compatible Card (2008)
If it supported ISA for the old DOS PCs that didn't have PCI bus it would be a good upgrade for the old school PCs out there. Monochrome MGA used a different address than VGA/CGA/EGA uses. So you could have two monitors in old school PCs.
RickSanchez2600··on Mike Crawford Is Dead, Contributed to Mac System 7.5.X and Activist
Here is his obituary:

RickSanchez2600··on Marzipan: The False Mac iPad Dilemma Resolved
There is no need for a Mac Pad, the iPad Pro does it all.

iOS is OSX ported to ARM, if Apple wanted to sell ARM based Laptops they would be the iLaptop and run iOS.

iOS is for mobile devices, OSX is for desktops and laptops.

RickSanchez2600··on Is “Senior Software Developer” a Meaningless Title?
They didn't train them. Just gave them a book on SQL Server and wanted them to be a DBA. So we had database problems. I had to fix the programming issues as a super debugger but spaghetti code is hard to fix esp when it isn't documented.
RickSanchez2600··on Drafting Only Men for the Military Is Unconstitutional, Judge Rules
Women, transgender, non-binary etc should all be included in a draft.
RickSanchez2600··on Is “Senior Software Developer” a Meaningless Title?
I was given that title after 4 years of being with the company. Then they took it away because it was just a title and meant nothing. No extra pay either. Sounds good on a resume though. I complained about it and got fired for my troubles. They had a 90% turn-a-round rate and that is how they saved money using new people without raises.
RickSanchez2600··on Carbonite to acquire Webroot for $600M
I used to use Webroot and Spyware Sweeper until it got too bloated. I never went back. I started to use Avast or the Windows Defender built into Windows. Using the EEK kit to scan for spyware and Trojans.

I don't really have a virus problem as I scan files before I open them and I stay away from websites that would give me an infection. I got ad blockers and harmful site blockers.

Anti-Virus software the market is very crowded so is Backup software. I use Dropbox for my backups and could use One Drive or Google Drive as well. My documents are small the only large files I deal with are emulation ROMs which can be downloaded over again via torrent if I lose them.

I wanted to go Linux Mint but I got games and software that needs Windows and has no Linux port or works with WINE. Plus my wireless card only works with older kernels and if I install a new kernel it breaks my Wifi driver and I have no Internet.

RickSanchez2600··on Reddit is raising a huge round near a $3B valuation
Here are some alternatives to Reddit:

http://voat.co/

http://gab.ai/

http://notabug.io/

http://kr5ddit.com/

RickSanchez2600··on Reddit is raising a huge round near a $3B valuation
Using Gun and Blockchain to mirror content on other servers to prevent data loss.

Notabug.io is a P2P tech using the old Reddit UI.

http://k666.kr5ddit.com/ Is a free and open source version of http://kr5ddit.com made to look like the old Scoop and function like Reddit.

RickSanchez2600··on GreatFire is tracking Apple iOS applications for instances of censorship
Interesting I typed in Clash of Clans and found all of the Clash of Clans clone games like Clash of Kings, etc. Only the Chinese App store had Chinese letters in their name.
RickSanchez2600··on Want to Stop Fake News? Pay for the Real Thing
Yes the paper vilified the parents who had done nothing wrong. Kick them when they are down sort of thing to sell more papers.
RickSanchez2600··on Want to Stop Fake News? Pay for the Real Thing
The parents were not neglectful, they took care of their daughter and took her to the hospital as soon as they noticed the trouble.

Parents were not charged with neglect until after the article was written saying they neglected their daughter. There was no neglect just dirty laundry.

RickSanchez2600··on Want to Stop Fake News? Pay for the Real Thing
CLickbait articles where you have to click for each page of the article are the worst. You know they do it for advertising revenue and not for journalistic integrity.

Some of these alt-media sites are political and put a spin on stories as well.

RickSanchez2600··on Want to Stop Fake News? Pay for the Real Thing
I paid for a newspaper and the only thing factual was the cartoons. Fake news has been around longer than the Internet. Look at Supermarket tabloids. Look at all of the journalists being fired now.

Fake news is paid for with advertising and collecting info on the readers. Sometimes you have to pay for it as well.

Newspaper I paid for reported falsely that a friend of mine's parents had neglected their spinal meningitis daughter and she died. They rushed her to the hospital in their van knocking off the rack on top to get her help because they couldn't wait for an ambulance. She died anyway, and they charged the parents even if they did everything correctly to save her. From that day I learned of fake news.

RickSanchez2600··on Why isn't the internet more fun and weird?
Corporate takeover, and censorship as the Internet becomes commercialized. Takeover of payment systems that can ban anyone's account for political reasons.

It brought on the neoliberal trolls on 4Chan and Reddit. In some areas anyway.

The Internet is like working a job now, all fun is blocked by management.

RickSanchez2600··on Sony is making the same mistake that hobbled Microsoft and almost killed Xbox
If the Steam Machines come out with Windows 10 on them, they can beat the XBox and Playstation units with the unlimited library of games for Windows. I think SteamOS is not ready for prime time yet.

The PC Master Race has an advantage with Windows 10 and a gaming PC being upgradable. Valve's Steam really delivers the video games and has sales as well. I don't think that can be beat.

Video game consoles use PC technology now like AMD or Intel processors, etc.

You'll never see an AmigaBox or AmigaStation because they lag behind in technology, but the Amiga plays classic games alright. The Armiga does that just fine: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/armiga-amiga-emulator-giveaway...

So don't forget about the competition out there, I heard rumors that even Sega wants to make a new console. The old retro video game systems like Armiga and that new Atari box will compete as well, unless the XBox and Playstation emulate the retro games as well.

RickSanchez2600··on Advanced Mac Substitute: API-level reimplementation of classic Mac OS
I tried to resell it at my PC Shop but could not get any buyers. 68K Macs sold for $100 on eBay like the Mac SE.
RickSanchez2600··on LibreSilicon: Decentralizing semiconductor manufacturing [video]
This could reduce the cost of making silicon chips, and make it easier as well.
RickSanchez2600··on For First Time in More Than 20 Years, Copyrighted Works Will Enter Public Domain
Superman and Batman too are old enough to enter the PD, or at least the old comic books are.
RickSanchez2600··on Announcing Open Source of WPF, Windows Forms, and WinUI
Can't you just fork the project and make your own cross platform WPF and Windows Forms? Name it something else and don't give the code to Microsoft?
