RandomGuyDTB··on Soviet Arcade Games from the 70s and 80s
Probably from Elektronika, maybe you can recognize it from here: https://www.gameandwatch.ch/en/faq-questions-answers/game-wa...
RandomGuyDTB··on Map of the World's Nuclear Power Plants
Related: an official map of US power reactors from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, https://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/map-power-reactors.ht...
RandomGuyDTB··on WeChat is Watching: Living in China with the app that knows everything about me
If every one of my friends and even my employer used an app to conduct business and I refused to get it no matter how much they tried to tell me to because I was concerned about my privacy I'd be ostracized. This did happen to me with Facebook to an extent, and Facebook isn't nearly as much of a mammoth as WeChat. Stop pretending it's a choice.
RandomGuyDTB··on Hacking My Mother’s Phone to Save Her Memories
>"Hacking my Mother's Phone"

I agree with your definition of hacking but the explicit goal was to get into their mother's phone, which they didn't. Ultimately they achieved their goal, yes, but via a different method than the one they originally attempted.

RandomGuyDTB··on More People Will Die as a Result of Texas’ Red Light Camera Ban
It is better to have 100 guilty men go free than to have 1 free man jailed. I'd rather have no traffic cameras than any that have even one false positive.
RandomGuyDTB··on Why Was Mini USB Deprecated in Favor of Micro USB?
Mini's still on my TI-84+ and I can only speak anecdotally but I've never had a single cable die or have a socket go loose. I plugged and unplugged it probably ten times a day last year for six months so I could work on making my first calculator game.

I go through a micro-USB cable once a month. I buy them in bulk. I hate the standard with a passion. I don't like thin devices- if they could make thicker phones that have mini I'd buy them instead.

RandomGuyDTB··on Maine passes bill to prevent ISPs from selling browsing data without consent
> The bill will go into effect if Gov. Mills signs it

She'll sign it. Mainer here who's been following what's been going on (she's our first female governor), she's been very committed to making sure our state is modernized. She quoted Kurt Vonnegut in her inaugural speech.

RandomGuyDTB··on Google Now Forces Edge Preview Users to Use Chrome for the Modern YouTube
You can change email forwarding in Gmail to forward everything to the Protonmail. That's how I initially transferred. A year and still changing email addresses, I have a ton of accounts to go.
RandomGuyDTB··on Google Now Forces Edge Preview Users to Use Chrome for the Modern YouTube
This is really ugly in terms of practice (get MS to use Chromium and then blacklist them from new YouTube) but I specifically disable the polymer (new) YouTube theme. It makes it look bloated. Some features aren't even available in new YouTube. Only downside is no dark theme.
RandomGuyDTB··on SerenityOS – a graphical Unix-like OS for x86, with 90s aesthetics
CRT rot... the grim reaper lurking behind the few remaining good monitors. I wish someone would make high-quality CRTs again, every time I use my C1701 I feel like I'm slowly desecrating an artifact- that I shouldn't be so shamelessly using such a limited resource. I suppose there's a chance I'll be able to keep up using CRTs until I die but I really am not ready to switch my old setup to an LCD.
RandomGuyDTB··on SerenityOS – a graphical Unix-like OS for x86, with 90s aesthetics
I'll never stop buying CDs or tapes. No ads, no WiFi needed, and when I'm playing them on my stereo they don't use any processing power. Plus I can rip the FLACs very easily.
RandomGuyDTB··on Spotify resets some account passwords citing ‘suspicious activity’
I had this happen to me recently. I just rolled with it; my password was still the nine-character all-lowercase default I'd had since seventh grade. LastPass made the reset a ten-second job.
RandomGuyDTB··on Playdate – A New Handheld Gaming System
Where's the SDK? That's what I'm interested in. I don't wanna be limited to just twelve games.

Edit- looks like an SDK exists, it's just not available quite yet: https://play.date/media/

RandomGuyDTB··on CDs Curated by Steve Jobs and the iPod Team (2016)
Beat me to it. I was creating one just now.
RandomGuyDTB··on I Got a Knuth Check for 0x$3.00
YYYYMMDD in my experiences is best for file sorting.
RandomGuyDTB··on Facebook Suing Rankwave for Privacy violations
> Facebook suing for privacy violations.

Ironic.

RandomGuyDTB··on Pilotwings demos act differently depending on when the cartridge was made
I haven't seen him tweet about it once.
RandomGuyDTB··on Harry’s Will Be Sold to Owner of Schick for $1.37B
And I'm fifteen so if I tried to grow my facial hair out it would end up being a neckbeard, sideburns, and a bad excuse for a mustache.
RandomGuyDTB··on Classic Minecraft now free online
Also works in latest on Windows 64-bit
RandomGuyDTB··on Canada Border Services seizes lawyer's phone, laptop for not sharing passwords
Do you have a citation on how using Linux can get you detained?
RandomGuyDTB··on Facebook Website Redesign
It looks like Twitter to me. Like a very bright Twitter.
RandomGuyDTB··on Vim.wasm
Firefox on Debian 9 x86 here, not happening to me.
RandomGuyDTB··on Mozilla Firefox to Enable Hyperlink Ping Tracking by Default
That was a short wait.
RandomGuyDTB··on Mozilla Firefox to Enable Hyperlink Ping Tracking by Default
That's a shame. Now I have to either wait for someone to make an extension to disable hyperpings (so it can sync between all my Firefoxes rather than me having to manually change it every time) or learn to make one myself.
RandomGuyDTB··on U.S. senators introduce social media bill to ban 'dark patterns' tricks
I'm pessimistic on this bill passing- Silicon Valley has also reached its fingers into lobbying. See: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/sep/03/silicon-v...
RandomGuyDTB··on The Crystal Goblet (1955)
I might do that myself, that sounds really cool. I've never imagined doing that before.
RandomGuyDTB··on Laptop Camera Cover
Yes but black tape costs 1/50th the price of these and people even give webcam covers away at events.
RandomGuyDTB··on U.S. teens are spending less time with their friends in person
That makes the problem even worse!
RandomGuyDTB··on Chrome “clear cookies on exit” feature does not work
If the cookie is stored in-file somewhere you could probably make a batch file to delete it and then start chrome and put the shortcut on your desktop and in your start menu.
RandomGuyDTB··on Chrome “clear cookies on exit” feature does not work
The US buttons don't work because there are mandatory waiting times for the doors closing due to the ADA ((your article mentions that)) - they're still normally plugged in.
