Quikinterp··on Qt signal is ten times slower than a virtual function
Drawing perhaps?
Quikinterp··on The World Excel Championship is being broadcast on ESPN
I'd like any readers of this thread to know that there was once a million dollar Farming Simulator tournament. The competition was haybale stacking. I always found that hilarious
Quikinterp··on CNIL makes Google Analytics almost illegal in France
I like that law in Canada.
Quikinterp··on Instagram is shifting to videos – users aren't happy
It's algorithm is way more aggressive than other social media. Sometimes it's almost creepy. I don't care about a lot of stuff on there but it's easy to find yourself in very niche communities on tiktok.
Quikinterp··on A systems model of anxiety-driven procrastination
I have and I do use it, and it helps me a lot. But it still feels like there's an underlying laziness to myself. Maybe I should try other medication because I sort of stuck with the first one I tried, and only trialed the doses after that
Quikinterp··on A systems model of anxiety-driven procrastination
I struggle with being lazy in all aspects of my life. I have ADHD and anxiety. Does anyone know of where I should start looking to lower my procrastination and laziness?

It doesn't feel like I'm lazy, because I also don't get things done that I WANT to do. I simply do not know why I don't get things done. I don't know if I'm lazy or paralyzed by fear. Trying new things is always hard for me

Quikinterp··on Music for Programming
I have ADHD and I have to listen to music to focus as well. I focus less without music. Even when I'm half singing along in my head somehow that makes me stay focused, so I don't get bored and drift off.

Interestingly enough I'm bad at multi tasking. I'm bad at single tasking too. But doing two things at once normally means I'll get neither of those things done. Music is an exception for me.

Quikinterp··on Leetcode Considered Harmful
When so much of my resume is NDA'd it really starts to feel like "I'm a great painter, I promise, I'm just not allowed to show you any art I've made"
Quikinterp··on What Everyone Knows
You're posing a lot of questions that are answered with a simple "no".

Ask people on the street how many letters are in the English alphabet, and most will tell you 26.

Quikinterp··on Ask HN: What does 12:00 AM mean?
A lot of my exams will use the time 11:59pm instead of 12:00am to avoid confusion like this
Quikinterp··on Veloren is a multiplayer voxel RPG written in Rust
It didn't get hijacked. Cubic voxels are still voxels. There are lots of non cubic voxels games that come out still.
Quikinterp··on Veloren is a multiplayer voxel RPG written in Rust
There's also people like myself who have a general interest in voxel related software. I've always been fond of the aesthetic but also all of the optimizations people use for voxel games and renderers
Quikinterp··on iPhone 11 Emulated on QEMU
I have an old iPhone, could I use a serial number from that potentially?
Quikinterp··on Things that used to be hard and are now easy
I hope someone can reply to this and help me learn more about async/await in c#. I'm finding it confusing too, and I can't put my finger on why.
Quikinterp··on Epic Games is making hundreds of temp testers into full employees with benefits
Fortnite is really not a buggy game to me. I rarely encounter any game breaking bugs. I'm sure people find a lot online but that's the nature of a game that popular
Quikinterp··on How to commit murder inside a locked room
The plot of one of my favourite games, Outer Wilds (not to be confused with Outer Worlds), is about being stuck in a solar system where you die (avoiding spoilers intentionally) every 20 minutes and you have to figure out why.

One of my favourite games, the sense of mystery and the high stakes of the plot made it very intriguing to me.

Quikinterp··on How a middle aged CS major debunked a classic positive psychology finding (2013)
It's a social science so no I don't think most people would consider it part of STEM.
Quikinterp··on Uyghur kids detail abuse at China's boarding schools in Xinjiang
Even weirder is the implication that everyone reading this is going to be from the US, which is simply not true.
Quikinterp··on CDC reports increase in human rabies cases linked to bats in the U.S.
I don't know much about biology, what advantages does having a heart rate that fast have for a bat?
Quikinterp··on Ask HN: Are Indeed, LinkedIn the go-to places for exploring new jobs?
as a software developer? It shouldn't matter. People shouldn't be discriminated for something like tattoos. Especially when software related stuff isn't as customer-facing as an actual bank teller
Quikinterp··on Avoid Surprise Bills from AWS
I think it's the premise rather than the cost that matters. I'd be scared that $3 turns into $300 or something
Quikinterp··on How to Study Effectively
Yeah this would make sense. I still do think all nighters would probably harm your memory retention even if you do it a couple days before the exam. I'd imagine the brain has more time to really process what you're studying if you sleep after doing so.
Quikinterp··on How to Study Effectively
I've anecedotedly studied how much sleep is the most efficient before writing an exam, throughout the many I've taken at university. This is a bit different than long term rentention though, as my hypothesis was basically "if you think you're screwed for an exam, what's the optimal crammed studying/sleep ratio the night before?"

1. All nighter is never worth it no matter how little material you think you know.

2. If you're semi confident in the exam, prioritize getting a full sleep over a little sleep.

3. If you're not confident in the exam, definitely still aim for at least 5-6 hours of sleep.

That's what I've noticed when it comes down to cram studying, otherwise my performance goes out the window.

Quikinterp··on A majority of young adults in the U.S. live with their parents
Seems like he was referring to moving out and spending money on rent, from what I can gather
Quikinterp··on New carnivorous plant discovered in Pacific Northwest
I like the technique of testing if it was carnivorous. For the lazy people, they put a nitrogen isotope inside fruitflies and then tested the plant later to see if it was absorbing the nitrogen, and it was.
Quikinterp··on Commit often, perfect later, publish once: Git best practices (2013)
If I ever have to fix bugs I'll go and look at the commit history to see where it likely started. Especially if it was code that belonged to me but someone inadvertently commited something that broke it, that's why I like a nice commit history.
Quikinterp··on To protect against weaponized drones, we must understand their key strengths
"tool assisted speedrun" is a term in video game speedruns referring to the use of software/external tools to help with speedrunning games. So imagine a drone race where everything is programmed rather than remote controlled by a pilot
Quikinterp··on Developers on what makes their games ‘hand-drawn’
Lucas Pope is a one man army. He even did the music for that game, which is just as good as the other aspects.
