Piko··on I Am So Tired
Good luck! I'm not sure the US is the best destination at the moment, have you looked into Europe?
Piko··on I Am So Tired
Hehe, the problem is that I work in the news business :) But yeah, definitely..

Piko··on Show HN: Image2video.app – Transform Ghibli-style images into videos using AI
Not sure if you're trolling, but there's a huge debate over exactly this kind of thing... e.g. see https://www.vox.com/artificial-intelligence/408786/ai-art-st...
Piko··on Show HN: Image2video.app – Transform Ghibli-style images into videos using AI
No, thank you. I'd rather have real artists create real art :)
Piko··on Anduril Building Arsenal-1 Hyperscale Manufacturing Facility in Ohio
Great. More weapons and destruction.
Piko··on An NFC movie library for my kids
Oh man, I read "NFT movie library" and was super confused because these cards are very much fungible... But a very cool project!
Piko··on Show HN: I revamped JustWatch with a minimalist UI
What @seanvelasco wrote about the dropdown, but also Switzerland has 4 official languages (with German having the largest amount of speakers) but it's displayed as French. Maybe separate the country from the language? Would also be helpful for expats :)
Piko··on Launch HN: Thorntale (YC W24) – Presentation software that works with your data
To chime in: Firefox on MacOS in darkmode makes "Enable this content?" text unreadable (white text on white background)
Piko··on Google's hidden AI diversity prompts lead to outcry over inaccurate images
I disagree. We aren't telling kids "With your parents' socio-economic background and skin color you cannot become whatever you want.", after all.
Piko··on Alan Wake 2 is an unexpected visual marvel even on older GPUs
I found these lists:

Not super current, but still a nice overview :)

Piko··on Tell HN: Firefox Is an awesome browser right now
Out of curiosity, what do you need different profiles for? Kids/SO?
Piko··on Show HN: Pole Clock, a single 24h clock with multiple timezones
You can change it yourself in the settings
Piko··on Strike: A web-based, 1-bit paint tool
Does not work with Brave 1.8.86 (current) with Shields Up - JS errors for localstorage and precision. Works with Shields down. Would be nice to either still have it work but show a message maybe? Very nice otherwise!
Piko··on How to Easily Detect Objects with Deep Learning on Raspberry Pi
ETH Zürich :)

But yes, no disagreement here.

Piko··on Bringing Back Skeuomorphic Design

Piko··on Tales from the lunar module guidance computer (2004)
Damn... 27 myself and here I am, moving pixels around on web applications for customers that don't know what they want.
Piko··on Twitter Web has been down for over 20 mins. Are you affected?
Switzerland: Down as well.
Piko··on The computer virus is born, November 10, 1983
Inside the article there's a link to another article on the same page about the "Elk Cloner" Virus [1] with the title "1st computer virus is written, January 30, 1982". Which is only a little bit weird considering the linked article's title is "The computer virus is born, November 10, 1983".

Piko··on Microsoft Invented Google Earth in the 90s, Then Blew It
It's been a while since I played the series, but what similarities exist there?
Piko··on Free cross-platform UI kit by Invision
Looks quite nice generally! Especially the line graph with the shadow is something I haven't seen before.

Sidenote: Would be cool if there were alternatives to the Photoshop and Sketch packages. On linux, both are not great to use.

Piko··on What people in 1900 thought the year 2000 would look like
> "Ghosts? Do you believe ghosts in 2015?", no really, what do we know about ghosts not existing, in 2015 that we don't know in 1900?

Piko··on What people in 1900 thought the year 2000 would look like
Nice quote, but also wrong. The Swiss had tons of wars, both internally and externally [1] and provided many other countries' armies with their mercenaries [2]. Also, the cuckoo clock comes from Germany, specifically the Black Forest [3].

Full disclosure - I'm Swiss. As our history teacher put it: "The Swiss were always fighting, and if they weren't fighting each other they were hired by others and fought other Swiss mercenaries on the battlefield under different banners."

Piko··on Vivaldi – A new browser for our friends
511 points on HTML5Test [0] on Linux with Vivaldi. That's more than I get with Chromium (481) or Firefox (449). Vivaldi feels already quite nice but not finished (e.g. flickering of the preview images in vertical tabs when switching the tabs) and generally a tiny bit slower when changing tabs in comparison to chrome/chromium, my default browser at the moment.

Definitely keep it installed for now, probably won't use it daily.
