Why not use the USB one? https://www.usr.com/products/56k-dialup-modem/usr5637/
Most people don't have multiple computers and most people that own a Mac are unlikely to have two of them.
I don't think the money has to go to municipal fiber though. I'm currently in a rural city running 1Gbps/1Gbps with no data caps because of a small company got extra funding.
I totally get what you're saying though, it's the tyranny of the majority. What happens if the majority of people decide to censor the truth of history because it's not politically correct? What happens if they decide that the confederate flag and what it stands for needs to be stricken from the history books?
These things should not be glorified but should be remembered so we don't tread the same horrible road again against some other group of people. But glorifying it is kind of what they're trying to prevent now by removing it from games.
This leads me to believe that display support is intended in the future. It's a work in progress. They've gone this far why would they stop at compute? Still, it's pretty awesome if you ask me.
We were almost forced to find another library or write our own but we were able to find articles where Microsoft had said publicly that they no longer consider IE11 a browser and it shouldn't be used. It saved our hides.
All I want from Linux is the command line. Instead of having to fire up a VM or SSH into a remote box and transfer files I have access to them on my PC.
Based on my experience it makes Linux more accessible to me. It doesn't really change the way I use Linux other than to give me more options.
I can't imagine it being hurtful to Linux overall. Because of things like the Raspberry Pi and Android people are already in some ways getting familiar with Linux. Because of MacOS some people are getting familiar with Unix in general. If anything I think people will be like me in that WSL will simply make Linux more accessible.
