Phelinofist··on Why don't more developers “use the platform”?
I developed a personal finance app "using the platform". The only JS is for push notifications (service worker registration). IMO the app still feels interactive, because modern CSS (e.g. toggle visibility on radio selection) and modern HTML features like dialog or details allows for some JS-like actions.
Phelinofist··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
> Nuclear has no real cons other than time/cost of deployment

... and cost of operation and the fact that you have radioactive material you need to securely and safely store for quite a bit (which no one has figured out yet)

Phelinofist··on Java 27

I mean it's short and concise and there are additional resources that provide more detail. IMHO it's not a bad thing.

Phelinofist··on We must pace the frontier
Those sweet $$$. He probably gets a few shares once they IPO.
Phelinofist··on An Accidental Blackboard
I work for a company developing speech assistants. We use a blackboard as central component, driving the event based architecture. Agents can subscribe to files/folders on the blackboard (represented as URIs), thus enabling cooperation. Content is semantic. We used the pattern even before the AI boom and it's pretty cool to work with.

Too busy crippling sideloading I guess

Phelinofist··on The EU has begun enforcing the AI Act: first RFIs to model providers
I mean it is true that Europe is lagging behind in some frontier things, but if the price for catching up means uncontrollable mega corps it is not worth it. Europe also has some very high-tech companies so I think we are still good.
Phelinofist··on The EU has begun enforcing the AI Act: first RFIs to model providers
It's a good thing - AI is in basically everything, it needs regulation.
Phelinofist··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
Which honestly is a good thing? Starbucks sucks. Every small coffee in the EU has a unique flair. I don't like and don't want mega-corps.
Phelinofist··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
“The Commission welcomes the changes made by Apple to its commercial terms,” commented a spokesperson for the European Commission. This announcement, the spokesperson continues, is “the result of close dialogue between the Commission and Apple,” after the tech giant was found in April 2025 to have breached the rules of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and ordered to take the necessary corrective measures. In light of these developments and the changes to be introduced, “the Commission will monitor Apple’s effective implementation of the new conditions.”

Not sure how credible this is though

Phelinofist··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
I agree with your top-level-ish reply - the response by the EU was certainly smart and there are some really interesting things going atm that will loosen the dependency on the US. But just for _feel good_ I would've liked at least a bit more of a fight.

But re:DMA see the most recent Apple app store post on here. Kinda feels like the EU folded too easily there as well.

Phelinofist··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Good for Canada, quite a shame the EU folded so easily

Just a reminder that cortecs.ai exists. Pretty much the same as OpenRouter but build in Europe.

Phelinofist··on Decathlon Germany adds Wero payment option to decathlon.de website
But you can use Wero also from your good old desktop PC, right? Sure, paying in a restaurant with Wero for example might need this, but I think this is a really, really great first step in the right direction
Phelinofist··on Teardown: The BMW / Harman IDC23H Infotainment Unit (B423)
TBH a lot of devs working on this are probably really good devs, but having experience in the German car OEM market I can quite confidently say that usually it's management pushing unreasonable deadlines/stupid features/setting priorities wrong. Kinda like in most companies that treat SW as second class citizen. Lots of catch up to do.

May I suggest using Cortecs.ai then? OpenRouter is US-based as well and since you have been bitten by this already perhaps it's really time to change course? :)
