PhearTheCeal··on Rand Paul filibustering over drones
It's just another weapon that the government has now. When the government gets more powerful, the citizens get less powerful than their government. Most citizens fear being totally helpless against their government's power. So small incremental increases in government power, like drones, usually spell bad news for the citizens.
PhearTheCeal··on Code.org – Dedicated to growing computer programming education
Considering how old K&R is and who its intended audience was, how about The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith?

PhearTheCeal··on How blind people use Instagram [video]
I believe the big role Instagram played in this video is the use of photo comments. After he uploaded a picture, people would comment on it to explain what it was and how he did. So I see it as a way for blind people to capture moments around them without walking around and touching everything.
PhearTheCeal··on Motivating posters for your startup
The last one is so true it hurts.

I think I might design a custom poster that says that ;-)

PhearTheCeal··on Marijuana Majority Website Highlights Celebs And Tech Leaders Who Support Pot
I believe that public intoxication laws are already in place to prevent the people that insist on using marjiuana on playgrounds.

Also, I don't see how making the drug legal would affect the amount of people that choose to drive while under its effects. Being caught with alcohol while driving is almost (if not as) bad, and yet it doesn't stop people from drunk driving.

PhearTheCeal··on Interview Zen, tool for asynchronous coding interviews
My python solution:

  print "\n".join(["Fizz"*(i%3==0)+"Buzz"*(i%5==0)+str(i)*(i%5!=0 and i%3!=0) for i in range(1,101)])

He doesn't smoke it.

Is there a higher resolution version of these? Or perhaps a copy with better sound?

PhearTheCeal··on Ask HN: Favorite HN threads of all time
What is your favorite programming language? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3746692

This had some really neat discussion about the finer points of some languages.

PhearTheCeal··on Zoo chimp makes elaborate plots to attack humans
But really, humans aren't that much smarter. If we didn't collect and teach knowledge we've gained from the past then an adult wouldn't be too much better off than a child. If this chimp was capable of passing on his knowledge to the next generation, I think they would only be a few thousand years off from where we are now.
PhearTheCeal··on Critical Flaw Found In Security Pros' Favorite: Backtrack Linux
BT5 isn't the only distro that ships with Wicd. Plus a lot of people install wicd as an alternative to NetworkManager anyway. I guess the "BackTrack 0day OMG!" title is more gripping though.
PhearTheCeal··on Is Anti-Virus Really Dead?
AV is just the last line of defense. Intelligence is the first line.

PhearTheCeal··on Yahoo Decides to Fire Its Brightest Tech Minds. Facebook Will Gladly Take Them.
>It's always sad to see once great companies gow down the drain like this, no matter how well deserved it may be.

Well, a company is a just a collection of people. And since these people are moving on, they're going to go on creating cool stuff. Better to have companies dissolve like this than people with good ideas to stagnate in a dying office.

PhearTheCeal··on Anonymous to shut down The Internet on Saturday to protest SOPA
As a regular Internet user, I can verify that I am not a slave to HN and Wikipedia. I just find them interesting :)
PhearTheCeal··on Mozilla's BrowserQuest - Massively Multiplayer HTML5 Experiment
I'd like to hear more about how you did this. I'm always interested in manipulating Javascript and whatnot. Who knows, maybe I will learn something about securing my own games by tinkering with this.
PhearTheCeal··on Mozilla's BrowserQuest - Massively Multiplayer HTML5 Experiment
Sorry, I don't understand. Types.Messages.LOOT can be used how exactly?
PhearTheCeal··on Mozilla's BrowserQuest - Massively Multiplayer HTML5 Experiment
Ah, I see. I didn't reload the page. I wonder if there is any way to do this without reloading the page...

It be fun to show off if someone figured it out.

PhearTheCeal··on Mozilla's BrowserQuest - Massively Multiplayer HTML5 Experiment
How'd you do it? I'm trying to do:

localStorage.data = localStorage.data.replace('sword1', goldensword')

But it just reverts after I type that into the console. Could someone explain how it works?

PhearTheCeal··on Mozilla's BrowserQuest - Massively Multiplayer HTML5 Experiment
1. Go into forest 2. There is a maze cave in the top right corner of forest. 3. Get stuck in the maze ;) 4. To find final award just go through a cave door then go back into the door you came out of. 5. Yes, caves are magic
