PetahNZ··on Ask HN: What do you run on a $5 VPS that's worth keeping online 24/7?
"Linux ISOs" is just anything pirated in general.
PetahNZ··on GPT‑6 and Intelligent UI for everyone
I donno, I like iterating on a recipie with chat rather than watching a video.
PetahNZ··on Mercury 2.5 LLM hits 770 tokens per second
Its Llama 3.1 8B, a very old/small model.
PetahNZ··on Claude Opus 5.5
This is great!
PetahNZ··on Stripe will reportedly acquire OpenRouter for $7B+
I'm working on a SaaS where you can switch between different OpenRouters on the fly. /s
PetahNZ··on uBlock Origin is giving up the fight to keep ads off Facebook
The word sponsored in inside an SVG element with a linked `use` tag, so it's not that simple.
PetahNZ··on Stateless MCP has recaptured my interest
Its more targeted? Sure I can allow an LLM to access CLI, but then it will try to pipe to other command, write scripts etc. MCP is simply request/response. Its not really that technically different, but the way you and LLMs interact with it allows for easier control. IMHO.
PetahNZ··on We rewrote JSONata with AI in a day, saved $500k/year
If the original released a bunch more features that you wanted why wouldn't you just redo the conversion against the latest version?
PetahNZ··on LT6502: A 6502-based homebrew laptop
We did have web browsers, I had Internet Explorer on Windows 3.1, 33mhz 8mb RAM.
PetahNZ··on Map To Poster – Create Art of your favourite city
It does support SVG, --format=svg
PetahNZ··on Every vibe-coded website is the same page with different words. So I made that
jQuery UI?
PetahNZ··on When I say “alphabetical order”, I mean “alphabetical order”
If I wanted to sort by date taken I would do just that using the EXIF data on them.
PetahNZ··on The Rise of Hybrid PHP: Blending PHP with Go and Rust
This is one of the best things about PHP IMO. It makes it very easy to scale out.
PetahNZ··on AI overviews cause massive drop in search clicks
Why wouldn't I? It takes a few seconds and my thermometer just sits on fridge.
PetahNZ··on Progressive JSON
Reminds me of Oboe.js

PetahNZ··on Show HN: I reinvented PHP in TypeScript (demo)
I think this misses one of the main selling points of PHP, the shared nothing, single thread, fire and forget methodology that I can throw behind a load balancer and spin up 100 servers.
PetahNZ··on Notes on rolling out Cursor and Claude Code
And the waiting is somewhat frustrating, what am I supposed to do while I wait? I could just sit and watch, or context switch to another task then forget the details on what I was originally doing.
PetahNZ··on One Million Chessboards
Yea seems the rate limit should be stricter, I made a quick script to do 1 move (capture) every 150ms, doesn't seem to get throttled.

I like how generals.io did it where they explicitly made a bot only server/version.

PetahNZ··on Claude can now search the web
It would be nice if I could tell it what page to look at (maybe you can, I am not sure). Often if I am getting an LLM to write some code that I can see is obviously wrong, I would love to say here is the docs ... use that to formulate your response.
PetahNZ··on Why does man print "gimme gimme gimme" at 00:30? (2017)
Have you never worked for anyone before? The software I make is always expected to do more than what the requirements stated.
PetahNZ··on Why does man print "gimme gimme gimme" at 00:30? (2017)
I made a website for a goat breading society. It played screaming goat sounds if you typed the Konami code. I was sad the day that site was replaced.
PetahNZ··on Why does man print "gimme gimme gimme" at 00:30? (2017)
Yea, I have seen a very inappropriate debug statement being left in the led to the dev being promptly fired.
PetahNZ··on FrankenPHP: Modern PHP App Server
You can set PHP_CLI_SERVER_WORKERS to make it run multiple threads.
PetahNZ··on Static Chess
It doesn't even really need to be rendered by a backend. An SPA with pushState and it could literally be just a single file.
PetahNZ··on JPEG XL and the Pareto Front
My server will encode 1,000,000 images itself, but each client will only decode like 10.
PetahNZ··on Toolong: Terminal application to view, tail, merge, and search log files
Sed takes ages to remove a single line from huge files too.
PetahNZ··on Zero downtime Postgres upgrades
15 minutes to migrate a large DB? It takes days just to run an alter column on our DB.
PetahNZ··on Yandex open sourced it's BI tool DataLens
Or like not being able to delete a user without running some SQL:

https://github.com/apache/superset/issues/13345

Almost instantly run into this issue setting up a test instance of Superset. And the issue has been around for years.

PetahNZ··on Apache Open Office as an unmaintained project?
Unless you view it on mobile...
PetahNZ··on Launch HN: Onu (YC W23) – Turn scripts into internal tools in minutes
Not to mention most of my bash scripts are just wrappers around calling some other binary executables
