Pedro_Ribeiro··on Shopify acquires Tailwind
Hey do you have any opinion on the current utility of ui.sh? I wanted to buy it but I'm a bit wary of it just not being useful and they don't have a preview of a single skill.
Pedro_Ribeiro··on Twitter Viewer – View Twitter Without Account
Would've happened either way. Data is more valuable and also trivial to scrape now.
Pedro_Ribeiro··on A Preview of DuckDB v2.0
I've had some use cases with low latency requirements and frequent data updates. If you want to serve data on a frontend fast it's often not feasible to recompute everything every time
Pedro_Ribeiro··on CEO who fired 900 people on Zoom just before Christmas wants his job back
What does it matter if it's an HR person or the CEO telling me? The job is not coming back either way.
Pedro_Ribeiro··on Workspaces – Explore the workspaces of modern creators
Oh my god you people can't enjoy anything. It's just cool workspace inspiration and a place for people to share their setups, can't we just take it for what it is?
Pedro_Ribeiro··on Grok 4.5
What kind of comment is this? Such bad faith and adding nothing to the discussion.
Pedro_Ribeiro··on Starship's Twelfth Flight Test
You know Google owns a big part of SpaceX right?
Pedro_Ribeiro··on GitHub issues list not loading
Same with PRs. Seems like they're having an outage. https://www.githubstatus.com/
Pedro_Ribeiro··on My “grand vision” for Rust
Isn't his point exactly that we don't want to have too many function colors and instead want a generic way of declaring side effects so people can do what they want (be it try fns, IO, async, etc..., no panicking)?
Pedro_Ribeiro··on Drizzle Joins PlanetScale
Hey Sam, love your tweets. Have a couple of questions:

- What kind of Drizzle x Planetscale specific integrations can we expect to see?

- Is Drizzle considering expanding from Typescript to other languages like Python? (which has very poor database drivers).

Thanks

Is this an AI response? This account was created 4 days ago and all its comments follow the exact same structure. The comments are surprisingly not easy to tell it's AI but it always makes sure to include a "it's X, not Y" conclusion.
Pedro_Ribeiro··on X offices raided in France as UK opens fresh investigation into Grok
Can you go on Twitter right now and generate CSAM using Grok?
Pedro_Ribeiro··on X offices raided in France as UK opens fresh investigation into Grok
Isn't the algorithm published monthly on GitHub since a couple of weeks ago? You think they are gonna find a commit message "feat(racism): improve antisemitism capabilities".

Not sure what they're gonna prove with this.

Pedro_Ribeiro··on X offices raided in France as UK opens fresh investigation into Grok
Agreed, thankfully, there is no CSAM feature, and they patched it in a couple of days so that it would stop obeying requests to do so and banned the users abusing Grok for that purpose. Once they prove they have put the appropriate mechanisms in place to make sure it doesn't happen again it's fine and dandy, no?
Pedro_Ribeiro··on X offices raided in France as UK opens fresh investigation into Grok
Do you honestly not believe it is likely that EU is importing votes?

Also, haven't you seen the general push towards censorship, attempts to ban VPNs, and all the other shenanigans happening in the EU? Do you believe this is disconnected from the legal attempts on Twitter and Telegram?

Is it really a conspiracy theory at this point? Politicians do all kinds of evil shit, but these playbook tactics are where you draw the line?

I'm European and live here, before you say I'm getting these takes on X.

Can your computer hold a database with trillions of tweets and sensitive user information? FFS
Pedro_Ribeiro··on French government may consider restricting VPNs
Yes this is most definitely not related to the attacks on X and Telegram, France is definitely not attempting to crack down on free speech!
Pedro_Ribeiro··on X offices raided in France as UK opens fresh investigation into Grok
I think he is talking about France who does very much seem like they want to ban X and Grok?

HL Alyx ruined most VR games for me because they never lived up to Half-Life, and no one but Valve could make such a high-profile game. VR is a genre that benefits A LOT from high budgets.

I enjoyed games like No Man's Sky in VR, but they just don't hit the same high notes.

Pedro_Ribeiro··on Brazil's Supreme Court finds Bolsonaro guilty of plotting military coup
What are you on about? Have you seen the same comment sections I have? This place is clearly majority democrats.
Pedro_Ribeiro··on The National Design Studio is a scam
This barely qualifies as a critique; it's a hit piece with no constructive criticism and some anti-capitalist rhetoric thrown in.

> The National Design Studio is a clear case of nepotism, and they're greatly overpromising. Dismantling 18F was a massive mistake.

There, I just said the same thing but cut out the personal attacks and the ridiculous take that Airbnb was somehow built by thieves (does anything actually believe this?).

I'm surprised this article has stayed up this long. Have the mods read it? It's low signal-to-noise ratio.

Pedro_Ribeiro··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
Mhm but I don't believe inherently violent and dangerous things like guns and cigarretes are comparable to simple technology.

Should the creators of Tornado Cash be in prison for what they have enabled? You can jail them but the world can't go back, just like it can't go back when a new OSS model is released.

It is also much easier to crack down on illegal gun distribution than to figure out who uploaded the new model torrent or who deployed the latest zk innovation on Ethereum.

I don't think your hypothetical law will have the effects you think it will.

---

I also referenced this in another reply but I believe the government controlling what can go on a publicly distributed AI model is a dangerous path and probably inconstitucional.

Pedro_Ribeiro··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
So if a hypothetical open source enthusiast who fell in love with GPT-OSS and killed his real wife because the AI told him to should only be himself held accountable, where as if it were GPT-5 commanding him to commit the same crime, it would extend into OpenAI's responsability?

Your logic sounds reasonable in theory but on paper it's a slippery slope and hard to define objectively.

On a broader note I believe governments regulating what goes in an AI model is a path to hell paved with good intentions.

I suspect your suggestion will be how it ends up in Europe and get rejected in the US.

Pedro_Ribeiro··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
That's a slippery slope! By that logic, you could argue that the creators of Tor, torrenting, Ethereum, and Tornado Cash should be held accountable for the countless vile crimes committed using their technology.
Pedro_Ribeiro··on Starship's Tenth Flight Test
The figures they've been talking of the ideal cost per launch of starship are even more insane. I'm sure some of it is hype farming on Twitter but if they get the cost to less then $1000/kg it would be incredible.
Pedro_Ribeiro··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
Curious to what you would think if this kid downloaded an open source model and talked to it privately.

Would his blood be on the hands of the researchers who trained that model?

Pedro_Ribeiro··on Starship's Tenth Flight Test
What is sad about this?
