ParetoOptimal··on Mozilla's new Terms of Use causes confusion among Firefox users
If Mozilla wants to limit their use of my input, *why the do I need to give them a full, non-exclusive license*?
ParetoOptimal··on Welcome to Ladybird, a truly independent web browser
For crypto bros and those that excuse Brendan Eich

ParetoOptimal··on Everyone knows your location: tracking myself down through in-app ads
Is a bank app on your phone essential? I've never had a bank app installed on my phone.

Maybe you should look up their CEOs info on SignalHire and ask them?
ParetoOptimal··on TikTok goes dark in the US
Maybe we should go farther. Should Samsung divest because so many Americans have a Samsung Galaxy?

Who knows what could be on those chips.

ParetoOptimal··on Thoughts on a month with Devin
Their is a /chat command and an /add command so I'd assume a plugin like that is possible.
ParetoOptimal··on The Origins of Wokeness
> Twitter, which was arguably the hub of wokeness, was bought by Elon Musk in order to neutralize it, and he seems to have succeeded — and not, incidentally, by censoring left-wing users the way Twitter used to censor right-wing ones, but without censoring either.

You mean how twitter is censoring users who use "cracker" but not those who use the N-word.

ParetoOptimal··on The Origins of Wokeness
And what did AOC get in return?
ParetoOptimal··on The Origins of Wokeness
You can't be neutral against racists if you believe your lack of action is tacit approval.
ParetoOptimal··on I am rich and have no idea what to do
Therapy is more like a physical trainer but for your brain crossed with your primary care doctor, not open heart surgery.
ParetoOptimal··on I am rich and have no idea what to do
It seems you've not been to a good therapist.
ParetoOptimal··on Court strikes down US net neutrality rules
Is it not a huge regression that the power was given to ISPs to implement this at any time?

ParetoOptimal··on EmacsConf 2024 Notes
For fully local things like docker containers or across lan, its comparable if you use SSHControlMaster.

Also, the emacs approach uses very little resources. This matters if your LSP server takes 80% of your RAM. Vscode takes 20%, emacs/tramp doesn't.

ParetoOptimal··on EmacsConf 2024 Notes
Remote access because vscode uses a daemon but emacs uses scp for tramp.
ParetoOptimal··on EmacsConf 2024 Notes
I tried vscode, but couldn't picture leaving emacs for it.
ParetoOptimal··on Blackcandy: Self hosted music streaming server
Many use browser history so type a few characters and hit enter rather than navigating to an index page, locating a link, and clicking it.
ParetoOptimal··on Does current AI represent a dead end?
Those business people still can't quantify what their skilled workers do for then though, so they hastily conclude the AI is a suitable or even improved replacement.
ParetoOptimal··on Reverse Engineering the Stream Deck+
Personally I've never heard of Stream Deck and can't stop seeing "Steam Deck".

Also subjective, but Steam Machine sounds corny.

ParetoOptimal··on Parents of OpenAI Whistleblower Don't Believe He Died by Suicide, Order Autopsy
> But America didn’t vote anti-business at all so it’s just more rage posting on Facebook and Reddit that doesn’t do anything

Most of America (somehow) didn't know what they were voting for and just believed the empty promises.

See the recent regrets of steelworkers and trends of people searching "can I change my vote".

Oh yeah, and all of the people mad that President Musk is gonna increase H1Bs.

ParetoOptimal··on Parents of OpenAI Whistleblower Don't Believe He Died by Suicide, Order Autopsy
> Jeff Bezos has made every single person's life in America better by making products accessible to everyone regardless of economic bracket. Bezos' Amazon has compelled all other ecommerce companies to do better

By violating employees rights and encouraging other companies to achieve success the same way... No, he has not made life better.

ParetoOptimal··on DivestOS ROM shuts after ten years
The thing that kills me is no shake gesture or power button hold for flashlight.

Someone with a threat model that GrapheneOS addresses could always use access to a quick flashlight.

ParetoOptimal··on Feed readers which don't take "no" for an answer
I hate RSS feeds that don't include full content.
ParetoOptimal··on A high-velocity style of software development
Can you give some examples of why you would need to stop using emacs?

I can only think of the reason of pair programming and both users editing at the same time.

ParetoOptimal··on What we know about CEO shooting suspect
Oddly a talk from emacsconf a few days ago comes to mind:

Note that Brave's creator opposes same sex marriage, is a Coronavirus "skeptic", and his silly cryptocurrency is made to work with brave browser.
ParetoOptimal··on Mozilla has fired their Chief Product Officer after cancer diagnosis
Good. Corporations should be held to a higher burden of proof, especially with their track record.
ParetoOptimal··on Mozilla has fired their Chief Product Officer after cancer diagnosis
> Brave was founded by ousted Mozillians.

> resigned shortly after his appointment due to pressure over his firm opposition to same-sex marriage[0]

No thanks.

ParetoOptimal··on Why Haskell?
> To stuff all possible failures into the `Left` case of `Either` you have to wrap all possible failure types into a sum type, possibly with multiple layers of nesting (huge PITA).

Is this not inherent complexity? Is there some language or approach you believe makes this easier? Does it provide the same or similar correctness?
