PacificSpecific··on Why is Claude an Electron app?
I disagree. It's often chosen due to lack of resources to make native applications.

If it really is a design choice then it's a bad decision imo.

PacificSpecific··on Why is Claude an Electron app?
There's other ways to make cross platforms apps than to build them on top of a web browser
PacificSpecific··on The Rediscovery of 103 Hokusai Lost Sketches (2021)
If anyone is ever in kurashiki. There is a great museum featuring Hokusai and everyone involved in ukiyo-e
PacificSpecific··on Andrej Karpathy talks about "Claws"
That's per-post though isn't? I can't ban a submission source can I?

Regardless thanks for the tip

PacificSpecific··on Andrej Karpathy talks about "Claws"
Yeah it's really quite annoying. Is there a way to just block his site source from showing up on here without using external tools?
PacificSpecific··on I verified my LinkedIn identity. Here's what I handed over
Ah I see that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

I wonder what mongo and snowflake are doing with that data. The table is a little vague.

I was under the impression they just make database products. Do they have a side hustle involving collecting this type of data?

PacificSpecific··on I hate AI side projects
That's how I do it too. I haven't checked (and can't right now as I'm not at work) but does codex not have a feature that lets you download your codex chat logs? I would certainly hope so...
PacificSpecific··on Pink noise reduces REM sleep and may harm sleep quality
I'm with you. The way I deal with insomnia is to pretend I'm sleeping in a noisy environment. For example an apartment under a elevator highway or a cot behind a bunch of refrigerators. Or even in a tent on a lively beach.

Don't know why but it works great.

PacificSpecific··on Show HN: VOOG – Moog-style polyphonic synthesizer in Python with tkinter GUI
That's what we do in games too. If you know the scope of your project and how to avoid dynamic allocation it's fine.
PacificSpecific··on Waymo seeking about $16B near $110B valuation
Wait until you try a good train system. It's sublime.
PacificSpecific··on Nintendo DS code editor and scriptable game engine
Most definitely.

Less popular opinion : the ps vita was also one of the greatest despite Sony's horrid support and faith in the product.

PacificSpecific··on Y Combinator website no longer lists Canada as a country it invests in
Same for me and most people I work with in Vancouver as well.

These days I'm finding people are very much against relocating to the USA more than 4-5 years ago.

PacificSpecific··on Ask HN: Any real OpenClaw (Clawd Bot/Molt Bot) users? What's your experience?
Can you share the link to elons app?
PacificSpecific··on Y Combinator website no longer lists Canada as a country it invests in
Isn't slack and Flickr Canadian?
PacificSpecific··on Maze Algorithms (2017)
Ah fair enough! Will give it another go from my desktop tomorrow.
PacificSpecific··on Maze Algorithms (2017)
Hey thanks for sharing. I gave it a try but ran into some issues.

Is this intended to be able to be used on a phone? I saw the instructions about guiding a yellow ball but what I experienced was about 10 seconds of chiptune music with a maze that had some icons I couldn't interact with.

After the 10 seconds a series of green spheres and vertical lines washed across the screen but I wasn't able to control them.

I'm using the duck duck go browser on Android if that helps.

PacificSpecific··on The world of Japanese snack bars
Love these places. My wife's best friends husband owns one in Osaka and it's always a great time when we go. I find conversation is a lot easier in places with an 8 seat max.

I wish we had stuff like this in Vancouver.

PacificSpecific··on Selling SaaS in Japan
I'd love to hear more about this if you ever plan to write about it. Congrats on making it work!
PacificSpecific··on Selling SaaS in Japan
If you don't want a co-founder you are probably going to have to pay someone to fill those gaps.
PacificSpecific··on Why didn't AI “join the workforce” in 2025?
I appreciate the effort and that's a nice looking project. That's similar to the gains I've gotten as well with Greenfield projects (I use codex too!). However not as grandiose as these the Canadian girlfriend post category.
PacificSpecific··on Why didn't AI “join the workforce” in 2025?
Oh wow that's a great analogy. So many posts talking about how AI is a massive benefit for their work but no examples or further information.
PacificSpecific··on Building an internal agent: Code-driven vs. LLM-driven workflows
Reminds me of "XML to classes" and "JSON to classes"
PacificSpecific··on Linux is good now
I want to play games on the same fancy lg tv I use with my consoles. I just checked and it does not appear to have displayport.
PacificSpecific··on Linux is good now
We've made the switch and it's been great. On top of my that my partner who is not a computer person picked up Linux Mint to the level she can use Windows in a couple weeks.
PacificSpecific··on Why I think Valve’s retiring the Steam Deck LCD
Switch 2 is a Nintendo console. It's going to sell like crazy regardless of the software available on release.
PacificSpecific··on Why I think Valve’s retiring the Steam Deck LCD
I would much rather a refresh every 5+ years with a more profound hardware improvement. I'm even fine with closer to 10 years if the technology hasn't changed that much at the 5 year mark.
PacificSpecific··on Why I think Valve’s retiring the Steam Deck LCD
It's my target spec and the platform I test the most on for my outside of work stuff. The steam deployment app works so well it makes testing on the steam deck just as easy as testing on my dev machine with a gamepad.

At work it depends on the title but we've definitely used it as a test target. Usually in the minspec range

PacificSpecific··on Microsoft please get your tab to autocomplete shit together
They say it's vscode in the article. I can't say I've seen anything that egregious happen with unity in visual studio.

It's stuff like this though that keeps me from using vscode for code editing (I use it for markdown and JSON file editing only). I guess I don't know what I'm missing but it's never been a smooth experience for me. If I'm on Windows I tend to stick with visual studio.

Maybe I should consider rider...

PacificSpecific··on AI Can Write Your Code. It Can't Do Your Job
This is my experience as well. It's been great to make an application that's small in scope, doesn't require access to my main project repo and is basically a nice to have value add for the client.

I was already quite adept in the language and frameworks involved and the risk was very small so it wasn't a big time sink to review the application PR's. Had I not been it would have sucked.

For me the lesson learned wrt agentic coding is to adjust my expectations relative to online rhetoric and it can be sometimes be useful for small isolated one-offs.

Also it's once in a blue moon I can think of a program suitable for agentic coding so I wouldn't ever consider purchasing a personal license.
