Fallen off the homepage so what? I genuinely don't understand
PacificSpecific··on Claude Code May–August 2026 weekly limits promotion
Oh yes I still use it at work.

The max account is for home projects where I'm basically making some common tools but tailored to myself (diet tracker, note app etc).

It's been great but across work and home it's just too much.

PacificSpecific··on Claude Code May–August 2026 weekly limits promotion
I got a max account during this promotion and it's been very fun but I'm a little burned out and am kind of looking forward to going back and tinkering with game engines without the help of an LLM for code gen (will still use it for documentation questions but I can do that with the free tier)
PacificSpecific··on Qwen3.8 Max now ranked as the best overall model by agentic index
Glad to see this comment as this has generally been my experience as well. I'm really curious to see why it's so infuriating for others. My best guess is I'm using it more conservatively than most other users in this thread.
PacificSpecific··on Linux Desktop Market Share Surpasses 10% in North America
I dare say LLMs were one of the things that finally pushed me over the top to be a full time Linux user. For a lifetime Windows user Linux novice like me they really helped me get unblocked on basic stuff like installing Nvidia drivers and setting up a samba share.
PacificSpecific··on Do we just want slaves?
Anecdotally it does seem to be the case in my experience with extended family.
PacificSpecific··on Codex Resets
I've had this too on my personal pro plan and also when I run the usage command it says it's resetting tomorrow rather than getting cut off.

I'm trying to squeeze what I can in the meantime but I feel like they said it was getting cut off multiple times and they keep extending and possibly resetting it (havent been looking close enough to know for sure)

PacificSpecific··on Apple sues OpenAI, accuses ex-employees of stealing trade secrets
I think the person you are replying to was referring to Gary tan
PacificSpecific··on What is Bending Spoons? The little-known AOL and Vimeo owner that's now public
I've moved to Joplin and am pretty happy with it. Was easy to self host on my WebDAV.

I believe it imports Evernote data too.

PacificSpecific··on AI content is everywhere on social media, especially LinkedIn
Honestly I can't tell the difference with LinkedIn. Feels the same as it's ever been
PacificSpecific··on PeerTube is a free, decentralized and federated video platform
Thanks for the insight. Do you think something like nebula could ever be feasible?
PacificSpecific··on AI learns the “dark art” of RFIC design
Recently I heard some people conflate procedural generation and generative AI and I had to explain why there isn't some legal or ethical issue with what breaks down to essentially scattering some points.

It's really getting annoying having to have these conversations.

PacificSpecific··on PlayStation Is Deleting 551 Movies from Customers' Accounts
A decade ago they pulled my purchased copy of mortal kombat 2. Not the first time they've done stuff like this.

I stuck to buying hard copies and dwindled off the series as they started to charge just to play multiplayer.

PacificSpecific··on When I reject AI code even if it works
Ah interesting. We are in very different domains haha. I had to search a lot of terms.

Thanks for sharing!

PacificSpecific··on Google Hits 50% IPv6
Thanks for the info! I'll look into openwrt
PacificSpecific··on Google Hits 50% IPv6
Fair enough. I do question it often.

It's a standard Asus router but it's given me a lot of ire. I hate to say it but it's never a problem when I install windows on the same machines

(I'm currently in the process of trying to completely remove windows from my life)

PacificSpecific··on Google Hits 50% IPv6
First thing I do on a fresh Linux install is set ipv6 to deactivated. Fixes all my initial Linux install problems. I don't question it, it just works every time.
PacificSpecific··on When I reject AI code even if it works
That's cool. Could you share some concrete examples of your successes?
PacificSpecific··on Azure Linux 4.0 is Microsoft's first general-purpose Linux
Don't worry you aren't. Luckily no one will use this distro day to day
PacificSpecific··on Valve raises Steam Deck prices
Never thought I'd be living in a world where my tech hardware purchases INCREASE in value over the years.
PacificSpecific··on Image-blaster: Creates 3D environments, SFX, and meshes from a single image
Couple options I've tried. ALICE vision is an open source library (I used it through Houdini)

Also epic makes an app called Realityscan

The term is "photogrammetry" which might help in your searches

PacificSpecific··on Anna's Archive hit with $19.5M default judgment and global domain takedown order
My library was recently asking for donations and they said the reason is more people are loaning out digital books which are significantly more expensive. I don't recall the details on the flyer though.
PacificSpecific··on Image-blaster: Creates 3D environments, SFX, and meshes from a single image
I've had some success with that. It's pretty neat!

Haven't used it professionally mainly because the titles I've worked on lately aren't realistic so you can't really procure the materials to scan.

There's also a Hokusai range of calculators I saw at yodobashi camera Yokohama this spring. It was 60$,I didn't buy it but I kind of wish I did.
PacificSpecific··on Show HN: Building a web server in assembly to give my life (a lack of) meaning

PacificSpecific··on I want to live like Costco people
Not sure if there's anything preventing this from happening in North America but in Japan there are stores that literally just sold broken down bulk items bought at Costco.
PacificSpecific··on Does Employment Slow Cognitive Decline? Evidence from Labor Market Shocks
I've been doing a 4 day work week and it certainly helps quite a bit. I worry I have gotten too used to it now though.
PacificSpecific··on Visual Studio 2026 still ships the form designer Alan Cooper drew in 1987
Yeah I still write WPF Software today and it's as stable as it's ever been. Kind of nice to have a UI framework frozen in time tbh.

Maui on the other hand.. I don't get why it exists. It's like the worst of both worlds between desktop and mobile. My understanding is it's rebranded Xamarin which would explain some stuff...

PacificSpecific··on Why Japan has such good railways
Wow weird. I've lived there and never knew but now that you've pointed that out I'm realizing we never parked on the street. It's always at the house or the parking lot of the place we're going.

Of course 95% of the time we take the train. Only use a car to go to Costco or possibly go out to the country (even then a lot of remote areas are super accessible in public transit)
