Gametap was so great and really underrated at the time. I think I probably ended up introducing it to 4-5 people.

We're starting to see some gametap-esqu stuff again these days but it's like 15 years later and the quality isn't there for me. Even though my employer keeps giving me free Xbox ultimate subscriptions I never really use them. I think a big part was gametap was so frictionless, you boot up the client and start playing.

PacificSpecific··on Steel Bank Common Lisp
Totally. This kind of stuff is what keeps me coming back.

Fair enough. I appreciate you taking the time to correct me. No need to be apologetic!

It's the only way I'll learn :)

Thank you for the explanation and link. I also learned a lot of other weird terms in that link. Himpathy was a bit of a gem.
PacificSpecific··on Sam Altman Is Losing His Grip on Humanity
That's my bad. I shouldn't have spoken in the singular tense. It's a rich tapestry of losers.
PacificSpecific··on Sam Altman Is Losing His Grip on Humanity
That's the problem though. One of those types did get that type of power.
PacificSpecific··on AI-generated replies are a scourge these days
Haha that is one of the top things I want to try to use llm's for. Seems like an amazing use case.

Especially for my parents who are getting targeted like crazy by telemarketers

PacificSpecific··on AI-generated replies are a scourge these days
I'm sorry what is the joke? I feel old now for not getting it.
PacificSpecific··on Intel XeSS 3: expanded support for Core Ultra/Core Ultra 2 and Arc A, B series
I remember around 2012 having discussions about how the 6fps input lag on ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 PS3 version was making the game borderline unplayable and that's why the PS3 version was not used at tournaments. Can't believe how far we've blasted past that benchmark.

Completely agree, input lag is the most important thing.

I tried kagi started years ago. It had some really interesting and deep results when I was planning my wedding but failed elsewhere. I should try it again.

I've tried so many times to make DDG work. In fact I'm currently commenting via Android DDG browser and still I find myself switching to Chrome/Google more than half of the time because the DDG search is just not working for me. I suspect the problem is I do a lot of geospatial type searches.

I understand why the results are worse but that doesn't really matter to the general populace.

I wish them the best though. We need search market fragmentation.

So this site Cherry picks a few comments and that's supposed to be a HN consensus?

Whoever made this has a massive chip on their shoulder.

Especially linkedin from my experience. That place is a shithole even more than usual lately.
PacificSpecific··on How I use Claude Code: Separation of planning and execution
That's awesome and a real motivator for me to try it myself. Especially since my employer is giving me a ton of credits for exploration I haven't been maximising to the point of hitting a usage limit.

Very cool and thanks for sharing.

PacificSpecific··on Why is Claude an Electron app?
That was only 1/3 of the electron applications which you hyper fixated on. If I use 10 applications a day and the 3 of them I (and countless other people) consistently have a problem with share something in common. Well, I'll let you figured that one out on your own.

I just saw your other posts in this thread though.

Good luck on your project!

As an aside. What were the CJK IME issues you resolved? Was it related to win32 emacs IME issues?

PacificSpecific··on A16z partner says that the theory that we’ll vibe code everything is wrong
I don't understand why you appear to be downvoted for this (your comment is faded at the time I'm reading this). It sounds like a perfectly reasonable take.

I've certainly inherited and also caused these problems in my younger years.

PacificSpecific··on Andrej Karpathy talks about "Claws"
Convineince really. I was hoping the feature existed already but you make a point. That could be a fun quick experiment.
PacificSpecific··on How I use Claude Code: Separation of planning and execution
If you wouldn't mind sharing more about this in the future I'd love to read about it.

I've been thinking about doing something like that myself because I'm one of those people who have tried countless apps but there's always a couple deal breakers that cause me to drop the app.

I figured trying to agentically develop a planner app with the exact feature set I need would be an interesting and fun experiment.

PacificSpecific··on Why is Claude an Electron app?
Discord could have been a lack of resources as I previously said. They weren't a billion dollar company when the application was conceived.

Regardless the only thing keeping those millions of people at this point is lock-in. Even then people are actively looking for ways to move away from it. I'm witnessing the migration now and am looking forward to the day I don't have to hard restart the client 2-3 times a day.

PacificSpecific··on Japanese Woodblock Print Search
Ah I should have posted the link. Glad you were able to find it and thanks for digging it up!
PacificSpecific··on Why is Claude an Electron app?
I've used 3/5 of those programs significantly and have issues with all of them relating to software quality. Especially discord. So bad I have 4 different servers actively trying alternatives.

When discord and slack started the company was not large so it definitely could have been a lack of resources. Could also have been a bad design choice.

I'm not alone on that either at all. This is a pretty common opinion.

Claude had a chance to really show something special here and they blew it.

Wow 2 ukiyo-e threads in 24 hours. This is really cool.

I posted that there was a museum in kurashiki in the other thread but neglected to post a link. For anyone interested here it is https://ukiyo-e-kurashiki.jp/?lang=en

PacificSpecific··on Gamedate – A site to revive dead multiplayer games
Love the old school steam inspired ui.

First game I noticed was deadlock which technically isn't even released yet. That's fine though. Deadlock is a game that is really good to play with a fixed group. So I'd say this site is good for even more than dead games.

Nice work!
