OrgNet··on Lyft’s algorithm is trying to block people with names like ‘Dick’ and ‘Cummings’
Not being from the US originally, I always found it very strange that someone would name their child Dick... what's the reasoning?

Not a good reason to block them though...

OrgNet··on Remote iPhone exploitation part 2: a remote ASLR bypass
I have never seen one instance where it was beneficial to the user... some of these programmers (minority) really think that they know better
OrgNet··on San Francisco has nearly five empty homes per homeless resident
> But many cities have 10%+ or higher.

Do those cities have twice as much homeless people? (or probably half as much)

warning, scrolljacking... Firefox should really fix that bug, like they did with the "new" popups.

OrgNet··on Firefox 72.0
I use that feature often on Android/Firefox
OrgNet··on Better protecting kids’ privacy on YouTube
they could do it but they don't want to because they don't have to.
OrgNet··on KeePassXC 2.5.2
What I was asking is why would you design a font that makes it easy to confuse iIl|1O0, etc... we need to get rid of those fonts.
OrgNet··on A little-known US-Canada border dispute
A border dispute article that doesn't show you it on a map.
OrgNet··on KeePassXC 2.5.2
What is the point of ambiguous fonts anyways? I never had a use for them.
OrgNet··on Fresh Cambridge Analytica leak ‘shows global manipulation is out of control’
Fear has been used for a very long time to control Americans...
OrgNet··on Why are we using black box models in AI when we don’t need to? (2019)
2 months old is usually not considered old news on this site... I think that their algo is buggy on year-change
OrgNet··on Why are we using black box models in AI when we don’t need to? (2019)
why include 2019 in the title of this post? was it automatically added (is that a bug)?
OrgNet··on What California’s New Privacy Law Means for You
it will take a long time before data collection becomes opt-in... we need to get the democrat president candidates to present their stance on this issue.
OrgNet··on What California’s New Privacy Law Means for You
I wish that CCPA would require companies to have the same url for opting out of data collection (ie: ms.com/nodatacollection, ggl.com/nodatacollection, etc...)
OrgNet··on Automate the Boring Stuff with Python (2015)
There's micropython for the esp8266... not sure if ruby has been ported
OrgNet··on How to stay private when using Android
I block most trackers...

but they don't have access to all those sensors on my phone anyways... including camera, microphone, gps, etc... unlike Google on your Android phone. You are comparing apple and oranges.

OrgNet··on How to stay private when using Android
Android is a nightmare (both for privacy and for the artificial limitations imposed by Google)... the only solution appears to be a pure Linux phone like this: https://store.pine64.org/?product=pinephone-braveheart-limit...

I don't sign-in to my google account on my phone but I'm pretty sure that they do shadow profiles like Facebook does

OrgNet··on Show HN: Create and mail a free postcard
"We're sorry, but something went wrong.

If you are the application owner check the logs for more information."

OrgNet··on IRS Reforms Free File Program, Drops Agreement Not to Compete with TurboTax
The IRS already have all the information it needs to automatically file returns for many Americans... does that mean that some of us will just be able to confirm that our automatically generated return is correct?
OrgNet··on Visualising the amount of microplastic we eat
Burn the plastic to heat your home... thats what they end up doing anyways but they charge you to sell you back the electricity...
OrgNet··on Switching from Chrome to Firefox
My problem with sync on mobile is that it appears to be impossible to manually sync the data when the phone's general sync setting is set to off (When I want no apps to sync). My email software let me manually check for new email... this appears to be a Firefox bug.
OrgNet··on No, that dot in the domain name of the URL is not a mistake (2004)
Firefox tells you that both connections are not secure... are you using Chrome?
OrgNet··on Ask HN: Best solutions for keeping a personal log?

OrgNet··on McDonald's holds communities together (2016)
Is that majority republicans, democrats or both?
OrgNet··on Samsung TVs May Upload Screenshots for Automatic Content Recognition
I guess you could detach the smart TV and replace it with another... but I get your point.
OrgNet··on Ask HN: Best solutions for keeping a personal log?
an alternative:

    # .profile
    note () {
      echo $@ > ~/Backup/Notes/$( date '+%F_%H:%M:%S' ).txt;
    }
usage example: ~$ note this is my new short note
OrgNet··on Samsung TVs May Upload Screenshots for Automatic Content Recognition
Is a Windows PC really under your control nowadays? And if you connect your phone to the TV, you don't really even own those, even if you paid $1000 for your "phone". The manufacturers are the true owners unless you root them which is not always easy.
OrgNet··on Samsung TVs May Upload Screenshots for Automatic Content Recognition
It might be better to buy a dumb computer monitor
OrgNet··on Julian Assange “slowly dying” and “often sedated” in Belmarsh prison
Looks like this is changing, strangely: https://m.slashdot.org/story/364910
OrgNet··on Turkey unveils first fully domestically-produced car in $3.7B bet on electric
> Erdogan first revealed plans in November 2017 here to launch a car made entirely in Turkey by 2021.

Electric cars are much simpler then conventional combustion engine cars... no transmission needed.

I'm glad that Elon was not successful in putting a transmission in the Tesla car.
