OrgNet··on Windows 11 available on October 5
> I'm somehow unable to identify the moment where the computer stopped being your kingdom

Phones started it, and Windows 10 followed (That's when I stopped using Windows). The only reason my kid still have a Windows PC is Roblox (but it is starting to work pretty well in Linux).

OrgNet··on Ask HN: Why don’t you use Linux as your daily driver OS?
> Because every time I login there is something that needs a quick update

You can't be serious that the updates aren't worst in Windows... I finally got my 80yo dad to Linux because of them being ridiculous in Windows.

OrgNet··on Elon Musk reopening Tesla factory despite Alameda County order
put him in jail and forget about it?
OrgNet··on Write Libraries, Not Frameworks
All code has bugs. - me (and everyone else)
OrgNet··on California turns to vote-by-mail to keep residents safe come November
My problem with vote-by-mail is that they have to confirm that your signature is the same... and mine is not. I have been voting by mail but I don't know if they count my vote.
OrgNet··on Amazon sellers are moving to alternative ecommerce platforms during Covid-19
thats a good start but it would be nice to get individual items directly with price
OrgNet··on April Unemployment Rate Rose to a Record 14.7%
The main reason might be because the current government is republican and this forum is mainly democrat but that is just a guess... The admins also manipulate posts, votes and front page visibility so it is hard to say for sure.
OrgNet··on On responses to “Bye, Amazon”
I just purchased from Amazon but they gave me $100 to open a new credit card that I will disable in 1 month. (edit: actually, I think that I will disable it today so that I can re-apply more quickly)
OrgNet··on How to Serve over 100K Web Pages a Day on a Slower Home Internet Connection
I use a cheap VPS provider and I pay $10/year... there are cheaper ones: http://www.lowendstock.com/
OrgNet··on We Chat, They Watch
iMessage is e2e encrypted but Apple has the key... so I would not consider this e2e....
OrgNet··on Google ends plans for smart city in Toronto
It ends up being the case most of the time but of course it could be better.
OrgNet··on Pentagon official: FCC decision on 5G threatens GPS, national security
> - That device will take a hit in battery life

4G was a real battery drain at first

OrgNet··on Five-year-old boy stopped on highway driving from Utah to California
no, but maybe his parents setup the car to accommodate...
OrgNet··on I got my first $50/mo customer
To his defense, a lot of the executives on his list probably buy similar lists to spam a lot more people (endpoint users).
OrgNet··on Five-year-old boy stopped on highway driving from Utah to California
you are underestimating kids... given a proper sized car where they can reach the controls, they do pretty good. My kid has been driving a 12V electric car from age two.
OrgNet··on Citing revenue declines, Airbnb cuts 25% of workforce
its a good time to cut the fat (but either way, that 25% probably doesn't include any of their real workforce, the landlords)
OrgNet··on Firefox 76
looks like v68.8 is ESR... not far behind, i was hoping for v10
OrgNet··on Firefox 76
it's not when a new tab is opened... it's when the field is in focus
OrgNet··on I gave away my books and sales increased
> There are a number of claims that this happens in the academic market as well.

it probably does until it doesn't

OrgNet··on SARS-CoV-2 was already spreading in France in late December 2019
Get the antibody test done everyone, as soon as possible
OrgNet··on Apple, Google ban location tracking in apps using their contact-tracing system
It is very valuable information, why would they let you access it if they dont have to?
OrgNet··on Ask HN: Did Google turn off IMAP access for good over the weekend?
LoL Google.... I thought that I was a victim of your random account deletion for a bit
OrgNet··on How I recovered a lost email from my email client’s memory
> Could linux write everything to a file every 30 seconds. A bit like a keylogger

yes, but probably not a good idea?

OrgNet··on What would you do if you lost your Google account?
I would pay for a software that could update my email address on all/most web services...
OrgNet··on India orders coronavirus tracing app for all workers
Why would you recommend to use company "A" just because it doesn't need to have data "D" to provide feature "X" if it has access to data "D" through other means anyways and they share it anyways with the other entity Government "G" that you are so much against using secret laws...
OrgNet··on India orders coronavirus tracing app for all workers
but Google and Apple have all that information already and the big pipe to the government is still open... just stop ignoring facts?
OrgNet··on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS’ snap obsession has snapped me off of it
If you want to disable updates, it should not still be updating... I don't get your point....
OrgNet··on Judge Orders FCC To Hand Over IP Addresses Linked To Net Neutrality Comments
This was probably done because of the (draconian) character limit imposed by HN on post titles... If it was me I would have removed the middle "e" in Addresses to comply.... aka Addrsses
OrgNet··on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS’ snap obsession has snapped me off of it
Not sure whats the point of using snaps in a stable OS release, but they are fairly easy to remove: https://www.kevin-custer.com/blog/disabling-snaps-in-ubuntu-...

ie: I thought they were more useful for installing a random app that is not supported by your OS... Is it easier to include a snap then it is to create a regular package? or are there any other advantages?

OrgNet··on India orders coronavirus tracing app for all workers
You are giving too much credit to Google and Apple, I think...
