NocturnalWaffle··on ICAO issued new power bank restriction on flight
Laptops, at least in the US, are not banned in checked luggage[1]. The airlines may have different rules, but generally the airline is not the one inspecting your bag, TSA is.

NocturnalWaffle··on New updates and more access to Google Earth AI
They are working on this and have had really good results: https://deepmind.google/science/weathernext/ https://deepmind.google/discover/blog/gencast-predicts-weath...
NocturnalWaffle··on Why isn't the <html> element 100% supported on caniuse.com?
Ah, good ol'e Dr Comer. Back in school I worked on a project rewriting XINU in Rust. It was quite difficult in the early days of Rust, but it was a fun project to get insight into how XINU worked.
NocturnalWaffle··on How Discord Won
Someone posted in Discord some thread testing they were doing. The developers responded that they are testing, but it's not being committed to yet.

NocturnalWaffle··on React Native for Windows and Mac
React, almost 10 years? It was only open sourced 7 years ago and definitely took time to fully catch on..

I have one in the upstairs and one downstairs. Both APs use the same SSIDs, which I believe is recommended. Haven't ever had in issue with it. When looking at the controller you can see which AP a client is connected to and when. It seems to transition in a few seconds of going up or downstairs. In fact, it work well enough that you can actually track who is upstairs and who is downstairs by which AP they are connected to.
NocturnalWaffle··on VS Code Roadmap 2018
Uh, I believe Cmd-Shift-4 saves the image directly to the desktop, then I usually hit one of my hot corners that shows the desktop, grab it, hit the corner again and drop in the image. It's usually pretty quick. I did not know about holding Ctrl copies the file, I'll probably use that more often now because it probably is a little faster. But if you want to save an image you don't have to open up preview to save it or anything.
NocturnalWaffle··on Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL announced
I actually bought a $25 bluetooth -> aux adapter that sits in my car like 2 years ago. I get in my car, plug in my phone to charge, bluetooth turns on and auto connects.
NocturnalWaffle··on The Google Home Mini Is Google’s $49 Answer to the Echo Dot
No, that's only for audio in to play with the Max's speakers. What he wants is audio out to play google's responses on something else (Which is a feature of the Echo Dot, so you can use a better speaker)
NocturnalWaffle··on Tmux and Vim – better together
Put this in your zshrc, and Ctrl-Z will also resume the most recently suspended process. Really handy to just Ctrl-Z in and out of Vim.

NocturnalWaffle··on Fuchsia: a new operating system
I was just looking into this two days later..

It's fairly low level. It uses Skia, which is a 2d rendering engine Google bought 12 years ago that powers Google Chome / ChromeOS, Android, Firefox and Firefox OS. Skia is built on top of OpenGL, but they've been working on a Vulkan backend that is close to feature parity.

This seems to be how they get the high performance animations. It also explains how they are able to do cross compatibility between devices (You really only need C++ and OpenGL).

Here's more info from their FAQ: https://flutter.io/faq/#what-technology-is-flutter-built-wit...

NocturnalWaffle··on iPad 9.7‑inch
The first retina was actually the 3, which I have. I think the only upgrade in the 4 though was a switch to lightning. (Maybe some spec boosts)
NocturnalWaffle··on The Cuban CDN
Purdue? Purdue still has a strong community based of DC++. People have servers sharing 50+ terabytes of data, with designated release managers and bots to auto download new tv shows, etc.
