NoGravitas··on Sudo – A dedicated music player designed around listening to music
I assume that since it supports streaming, it is 100% a custom locked-down Android build.
NoGravitas··on Sudo – A dedicated music player designed around listening to music
Expensive mp3 players are for audiophiles. They have better much DACs than a phone, hi-fi headphone jacks in addition to regular ones. Probably other hi-fi features I don't know or care about. They can easily run over $400.

Inexpensive mp3 players are for people who want a distraction-free device, who want a headphone jack, or like physical buttons, I guess, and they also often have somewhat better DACs than a phone, not that my busted hearing can tell. I think decent ones are in the $50-100 range. I have a $70 that I like fine. It's metal, it plays most media formats (not opus, which annoys me, and it flakes out on some specific ogg vorbis). Only thing I don't like is switching between linear and shuffle play is too many button pushes.

My Fiio/Snowsky Echo (not mini) has a 1/4-inch jack, and it was only like $70.

NoGravitas··on I think I hate the internet
I yearn for the urn.
NoGravitas··on Jellyfin 12.0
Intro skipping should work; requires a plugin, may only work with the web client? I have the plugin installed, but it doesn't work with the Jellyfin addon for Kodi. Ending detection works fine; don't remember if it requires a plugin.
NoGravitas··on Jellyfin 12.0
They probably had it set up that way for Plex, and didn't read the documentation about how Jellyfin needs its libraries organized.
NoGravitas··on Jellyfin 12.0
Interesting! I have been using the Jellyfin addon for Kodi as my main client, but it would be interesting to try Android TV again on the same device, since I 90% only use it for things on Jellyfin. How is the music player on it?
NoGravitas··on Mom gets 6-month suspended sentence for letting 5-year-old walk to the pond
> One child walks to another child's home then they walk to another child's home and so on until you have a big group of kids walking to school together.

That's what I did when I was in first grade. Suburban US, late 70s. Lived at the end of a cul-de-sac. Met with the other kid who lived at the end of the cul-de-sac, walked to the house of a kid who lived at the other end of the street. Then the three of us got on the sidewalk of the main road and walked to the school.

Biden and Harris were both centrist choices. Harris specifically campaigned with never-Trump Republicans by her side. It didn't matter. Republican campaign ads and their captive media ecosystem portrayed them as radical leftists.
NoGravitas··on NASA: Fill in a name, and you can have an exclusive coordinate in the universe
My exclusive coordinates are whatever space I currently occupy.
NoGravitas··on Aphantasia Beginner's Guide
There is a fairly wide spectrum short of photographic memory, though. I can see a fair bit of detail in mental imagery, but only if I trade off other things like the size of the area I'm imagining, or how long I can hold it in my mind.
NoGravitas··on The Hugging Face incident and the road ahead
Unfortunately, our cultural imagination around AI has been hopelessly poisoned by sci-fi tropes.
NoGravitas··on The Hugging Face incident and the road ahead
On the other hand, I think a lot of intelligent people overestimate the value of intelligence (in a vacuum). And problematically, the concept of superintelligence seems to have been defined by these very people, so we can't really have a reasonable conversation about what greater-than-human intelligence would really look like or be capable of.
NoGravitas··on Nebula Sans
Wasn't Abigail PhilosophyTube, a British woman, one of the Nebula founders? I guess perhaps it has changed since the early days.I remember them kicking off JT Second Thought.

Oracle's codebase got the way it is over several decades of human programmers and customers with changing needs and ambient technological environments. LLM code can get that way in a weekend.
NoGravitas··on Donkey.bas is 45 Years Old – 131 line of Glory
This was on a 386, not an XT, but I had a shareware driver for Windows 3.1 that provided that for the regular Windows sound APIs.
NoGravitas··on Why Target Common Lisp for Code Generation?
It's too bad that SBCL has accepted LLM code.

That's what the "successfully" in "successfully sued" means.

I really wish Memory Alpha would migrate off of Fandom.
NoGravitas··on US citizen charged after GrapheneOS phone wipes during airport search
You shouldn't count on the phone ever being returned to you, at least not in working order. Otherwise, yeah.
NoGravitas··on US citizen charged after GrapheneOS phone wipes during airport search
That's the combination on my luggage!
NoGravitas··on US citizen charged after GrapheneOS phone wipes during airport search
You can set GrapheneOS to reboot into before-first-unlock state if it hasn't been unlocked within a certain period of time, and BFU is more exploit resistant, and can't be biometrically unlocked. I have it set to 18 hours, but you can set it anywhere from 10 minutes to 72 hours.

So yeah, as a US citizen re-entering the country, you would probably want to set it to 10 minutes, or just shut down. Then hand it over, refuse to unlock, consider the phone lost.

NoGravitas··on Firefox Containers Preview
It was an official extension, distributed separately from Firefox, but it was so ubiquitous and a dependency for so many other Firefox extensions, that it would be unusual to not have it installed.
NoGravitas··on Jellyfin founder Andrew leaves team
I actually use Kodi 90% as a front-end to Jellyfin. If I only watched or listened to my media at my TV, just Kodi and a SMB or NFS share would be fine. But with Jellyfin I have the same media everywhere. This is somewhat more important for music than for movies and shows.
NoGravitas··on Jellyfin founder Andrew leaves team
There is a plugin that is supposed to provide this, but I don't think it works with every client, and I'm moderately sure it doesn't work with Kodi. Oddly, skip credits/jump to next episode works fine.
NoGravitas··on The Psychology of Software Teams
I preordered the paperback through bookshop.org the day before it was released. Received it in the mail a day or two after it was released. No bad/unexpected UI.
NoGravitas··on Trump Media to sell instant access to 'market-moving' social posts
Yeah, most of the vaunted "checks and balances" in the US constitution either come down to a gentlemen's agreement, or depend on either the nonexistence of political parties, or parties being crosscut by sectional loyalties that haven't really been a factor in US politics for over 100 years.
