Nimitz14··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
Which military experts? If you listen to actually knowledgeable people like Kofman it's been known forever that 2024 would be (and as we now are seeing from Russia being pushed back) Russia's peak. Russia is out of equipment and is starting to get similar problems with manpower. In the meantime Europe's investments are starting to pay off and allow Ukraine to pull ahead in 2025.

Nimitz14··on But good sir, what is electricity?
This feels like a very nice intuition to have thank you for explaining!
Nimitz14··on Thomson Reuters wins first major AI copyright case in the US
Generative models model the data, whether that is p(x) or p(x,y) or (x,y,z) etc.
Nimitz14··on Cities can cost effectively start their own utilities
Interesting perspective. I guess even in very rural areas it would have pushed people to build villages. On the other hand people already were living far apart and lack of electricity meant they had to do massively more work. LBJ's biography has a section on this, explaining that life on west texas farms was incredibly hard without electricity (and as congressman LBJ worked very hard to expand that to rural people).

I can't wait. Gated community's with real ID logins can't come soon enough. I want to know who I'm talking to.

When did Biden talk about universal healthcare?

Let's go through Trump's campaign promises: Infrastructure, Border wall, increased US manufacturing, repealing ACA, "drain the swamp". He achieved zero of those.

Biden in contrast followed up on his campaign promises: Infrastructure, increased US manufacturing, expanding ACA plus lowering costs. Among others.

Nimitz14··on TikTok says it is restoring service for U.S. users
Without more context it sounds like you're quoting an old democratic politician. Obviously.
Nimitz14··on Israel, Hamas reach ceasefire deal to end 15 months of war in Gaza
Pretty obv a gift from the bibi admin
Nimitz14··on Germany government collapses at a perilous time for Europe
Why do you act like German electricity prices aren't high? Any source including the one you link shows Germany to be above average. Hard to take the rest of what you say seriously when you don't acknowledge this reality.

Regardless I'll be curious to see whether what you predict will happen (energy storage becomes enough to deal with bad weather periods). Doesn't seem smart though to rely on the sun in a relatively cloudy country.

You are stating as fact what is in fact your (naive) opinion.

Not true. I work at amazon.

Nimitz14··on Joe Biden stands down as Democratic candidate
His domestic achievements are the most impressive and impactful since LBJ. You should educate yourself.
Nimitz14··on Joe Biden stands down as Democratic candidate
It's difficult to take this in good faith since the amount of effort to understand why this opinion is misguided is so minimal:

People voted for him in the primary based on the belief that he was and would stay in good health. The debate revealed that belief to be false. Post-debate, Democratic voters were massively (70+%) in favor of him resigning his candidacy. NOT stepping down would have been the UNdemocratic thing to do.

This is a complete non sequitur lol. FYI whisper is not a streaming model though it can, with some work, be adapted to be one.
Nimitz14··on Getting 50% (SoTA) on Arc-AGI with GPT-4o
Sorry. You, to me, came across as more interested in sharing your opinion than understanding what other people are saying. That's annoying. Maybe that's on me though.

Ok, you think no finite set of tasks can be used. Chollet is trying anyways. Maybe he is actually dynamically creating new tasks in the private set every time someone evaluates.

My main point was that I still think you're saying very similar things, quoting from the paper I mentioned:

> If a human plays chess at a high level, we can safely assume that this person is intelligent, because we implicitly know that they had to use their general intelligence to acquire this specific skill over their lifetime, which reflects their general ability to acquire many other possible skills in the same way. But the same assumption does not apply to a non human system that does not arrive at competence the way humans do. If intelligence lies in the process of acquiring skills then there is no task X such that skill at X demonstrates intelligence, unless X is a meta task involving skill acquisition across a broad range of tasks.

This to me sounds very similar to what you said:

> I'm guessing in other words that intelligence is the ability to come up with solutions to arbitrary problems.

And is also what collet talked about on the pod.

Nimitz14··on Why not parse `ls` and what to do instead
These sorts of pedantic exchanges are so pointless to me. We are programmers. We can control what characters are used in filenames. Then you can use the simplest tool for the job and move on with your life to focus on the stuff that actually matters. Fix the root cause instead of creating workarounds for the symptom.
Nimitz14··on Getting 50% (SoTA) on Arc-AGI with GPT-4o
You clearly didn't listen much since Chollet's point is exactly that there is no one task that can test for AI. The test he created is supposed to take that into account.
Nimitz14··on Getting 50% (SoTA) on Arc-AGI with GPT-4o
You're basically paraphrasing fchollet's paper on intelligence and what he talked about in his most recent podcast appearance with dwarkesh.
Nimitz14··on Getting 50% (SoTA) on Arc-AGI with GPT-4o
Ah that's an important detail about public v private. Makes it a nice result but nearly as impressive as initially stated.
Nimitz14··on Europe's biggest problem: It is falling way behind America's powerhouse economy
Europe is experiencing even more inflation than the US (how are you not aware of this??). Europe is cheap to you because Europe is poorer.
Nimitz14··on Europe's biggest problem: It is falling way behind America's powerhouse economy
The EU's "independent" foreign policy is what led them to ignore US advice and rely on Russia gas. They could have still been independent and made a different, better decision but blaming the US is farcical.
