NiekvdMaas··on Supabase Edge Runtime: Self-Hosted Deno Functions
One of the biggest annoyances with Deno deploy/functions is that there is no way to store any data. This would be very useful to e.g. cache an auth token, store a key/value pair, etc. See also: https://github.com/denoland/deploy_feedback/issues/110

Is any work being done to fix this? Or is this out of scope currently?

I'm afraid it's the latter: https://gpuweb.github.io/gpuweb/#privacy-considerations

Nice!

You can set the temperature to a low level and get the same deterministic results.
NiekvdMaas··on Show HN: I made a self-hosted ChatGPT UI
Looks great! I have something very similar:

NiekvdMaas··on Show HN: ChatGPT-web, an open-source web UI for the OpenAI ChatGPT API
It's a SPA written in Svelte... So no, it won't show anything in links2.
NiekvdMaas··on Introducing ChatGPT and Whisper APIs
It also seems to jeopardize their own ChatGPT Pro offering. It's a matter of time before someone makes a 1:1 clone for either half the money or a usage-based pricing model.

And how many of those have >10 billion installs?

NiekvdMaas··on Ask HN: Starlink Signup failed, no recourse
You might have made a typo in your email adres. Open https://auth.starlink.com/forgot-password and click on "phone" to reset by phone number.
NiekvdMaas··on Show HN: Cachegrand – a fast OSS Key-Value store built for modern hardware
The redis compatibility layer seems to be very early stage, see https://github.com/danielealbano/cachegrand/blob/main/docs/a...

Compare with e.g. dragonflydb: https://github.com/dragonflydb/dragonfly/blob/main/docs/api_...

Interesting to see how this will develop over time.

OBS v28 is amazing. It's bundled with the obs-websocket v5 plugin now. I have updated OBS-web [1] to be compatible with this, so you can now control OBS remotely without any additional setup.

NiekvdMaas··on On-device browser translations with Firefox Translations
https://github.com/languagetool-org/languagetool is pretty good for grammar. It's quite trivial to work with the REST API, try one of the docker images.
NiekvdMaas··on OBS – Open Broadcaster Software
Self-promo:

In case anyone is interested in controlling OBS remotely, you can use OBS-web: https://github.com/Niek/obs-web

It's not a full reimplementation of the UI, but offers the most often used controls so you can manage a livestream from e.g. a tablet or phone.

NiekvdMaas··on Redis vs. Kafka vs. RabbitMQ
It's worth noting that there are several projects built on top of Redis pub-sub that add more functionality, such as BullMQ: https://github.com/taskforcesh/bullmq
NiekvdMaas··on QEMU 6.2
Interesting! I tried to install the Windows 11 ARM preview with it (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsins...) but no luck. Do you have a working config with Win11?
NiekvdMaas··on Omicron Update: Nov 27
The comment that passengers were "negative before take-off" is largely false. Only non-vaccinated passengers were required to show a negative PCR test (max 48h old) or RAG test (max 24h old), vaccinated passengers were allowed to board without any restrictions.

NiekvdMaas··on SugarCoat: Private browsing without breaking the web
Looking at the source code [1], I have to agree with you. This is very easily detectable by anti-tampering scripts. Using JS Proxies would have been a better approach, although that is detectable as well (see e.g. [2]). To be really undetectable, the mocks should have been done on V8-level.

NiekvdMaas··on Porting WebGL Shaders to WebGPU
Is there any advantage at this point in time to port a game to WebGPU? Is it going to run faster, or have broader browser support in the future?

That's because the demand is through the roof. They can't possibly produce enough cars to sell right now.
NiekvdMaas··on U.S. Covid Death Toll Surpasses 700k Despite Availability of Vaccines
What's interesting is that this number matches very closely with the recorded excess mortality: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/cumulative-excess-deaths-... - for those who think the COVID-19 death numbers are artificially blown up.

NiekvdMaas··on GitHub Actions: Ephemeral self-hosted runners and new webhooks for auto-scaling
This is great news. The only part missing is official docker support for the runner (I'm using an unofficial solution right now) and/or Alpine support.
